Have you ever heard of carpal tunnel syndrome, pins and needles health conditions, or peripheral neuropathy? Today’s video is about a symptom related to these health conditions, and that’s a feeling of numbness or tingling waking up, specifically in your hands. This is closely related to the cervical curve in your neck above your spine and is something that is also closely related to how you sleep. While we get many patients who have felt these sensations in the past and just shook it off (literally), we highly recommend visiting a chiropractor to help get to the root of the symptom and cause.
If you’re not able to see a chiropractor just yet, you can do some daily motions. Try to stretch your head as far left and right as you can and try nodding moving your head as far up and down as you can. In this video, I also demonstrate these stretches so that you can help relieve the tingling and numbness feeling while you wait to see a chiropractor.

Been searching for awhile now for some better explanation to this. But u described my symptoms perfectly. My former primary care physician brushed it off as arthritis but this DOES NOT feel associated to arthritis at all!! Never had this problem before but for the past 2yrs it has gradually gotten worse. The tingling in my arms & hands gets so bad that it wakes me up. It is becoming impossible to sleep. Somethn is not circulating blood to my hands & arms when i sleep. I don't know ANY arthritis patient that suffers from this. Wake up with a stiff neck. I almost have to lay coffin flat for it not to happen. If my neck is slightly bent, my arms & hands will go numb. Please help. I am in the Raleigh, NC area.

Thank you, Dr. Greg! I’m looking for a new chiropractor because mine retired. Though I have some challenges now, because I am in the process of moving. With all the lifting, triggered what I historically have had carpal tunnel, but instead of a few fingers going numb, it’s my whole hand. Thank you so much for this video. I am on day four on trying to sleep on my back and the numbness in my left hand has completely stopped and the right hand is much better than normal. A few months ago, had a temp position of repetitious wrist movements that, I believe aggravated wrists issues bilaterally. I quit working. But recently, about the last couple weeks, when I wake, ( always in prone position), my hands are numb and my shoulder area is not painful but certainly uncomfortable enough that I'm unable to lay down again in any position. I have made Dr. appt. It's not for another 3 weeks. My wrists ache during the day but are not painful. I do have recent iv drug use hx. Heroin and meth. Quit heroin 3 months ago and meth 1 month ago. Do you think this could all be related to iv use? I apologize for the long question! Also, what should this Dr look at on initial examination?

Thank you for sharing. This is exactly what I am going thru. So started to sleep on a lazy boy because every time I get up. Or try to lay flat. I get very dizzy. At first it was great cause I wasn’t feeling dizzy any more but now I do wake up with this feeling in my left arm. And I do ride a scooter and while I ride a get a second wave pins and needles. Sir. I get this tingling every time I do some physical labor or ride my sportbike for a few hours. It is especially bad in my left hand. My neck and left shoulder also hurt. My day job requires me to sit in front of a computer typing and reading. I am 5 foot 8 inches tall and 158lbs. I am in my early 60s. this all started about 4.5 years ago when I built a large shed in my backyard. Now every time I ride my motorcycle (sportbike) for over an hour, the numbness and pins and needles with slight pain, mostly in the left hand/fingers. It is not noticeable as much when I ride but afterward, especially at night. Can you please help? thank You.

Hello Doc, Been having numbness in hands and weird like paralysis not often mostly numbness or tingling in my hands while I’m sleeping . In the day I feel tingling only when my hands are positioned where my arm is bent. Once I move positions the numbness or tingling goes away. I also noticed that bone on my inner part of the arm hurts to the touch on both arms. After googling it seems like golfers elbow but I don’t golf. Also, major neck stiffness. Hello! I have been having tingling and numbess on both my hands and feet for about 6 months. It comes and goes. There are periods of time that I don't have any symptoms. And then it appears suddenly again for no reason. This time I have been having it since 3 weeks ago. I have numbess and sometimes pain on my toes on my left foot. Or I have it on my left hand. I wake up every single night or morning (for 3 weeks) with this problem. It happens usually when I wake up from a deep sleep. Once it happened last week during the day time. It wasn't really tingle or numb feeling but more like a restless feeling. From my hand to my elbow. And from my leg to my foot (all on the left side of my body. I went to my doctor today and he just took a blood test to see my vitamin b12 level (waiting for the result next week) and he said that I should make an appointment with a neurologist. That's all. What could all this be? I'm getting desperate 🤔

Hello doctor. I started getting tingling and numbness in my right pinky and ring fingers (mostly the finger tips) tingling and get numb when I hold stuff too long such as a computer mouse and my cell phone. This happened right after (same day) I used an acupuncture device I bought from amazon so I firmly believe that is what caused it. Even though my condition was caused from acupuncture on the arm and hand do you believe these exercises would be useful for me or are there other exercises you could recommend for me to reduce numbness and tingling in my pinky and ring finger?

I recently started working in a restaurant. At times I need to carry heavy stuff by only one hand. Now I'm having numbess in the fingers between my thumb and smallest fingers. Slowly started to be worse that i wake up in the middle of the night, from heavy sleep only to this pain.

I play piano everyday and I have lived in my car for a few years. My job is not very strenuous physically. The last winter and this winter I noticed that I wake up with hands that are known. But the cold used to never bother me I am always well dressed grew up camping and still do all the time. Wool gloves on. But I am a side sleeper lately in my car where I think when I had my house I was more of a back sleeper. It's odd though that it only comes during the cold season the numbness in my hands. I don't think it's an issue with the cold but maybe the cold is exacerbating the other underlying issue which could be a nerve pinched from side sleeping. I don't believe it's carpal tunnel from piano because I believe I would have numbness during the daytime it's only when I wake up.

Wow. I do sleep on my stomach and I do have what I think is a pinched nerve at the top of my spine. I thought the tingling might be a sign of pre-diabetes or something. That being said, I went to a chiropractor and told them I might need an x-ray first, and they ignored the warning and immediately started pile driving me into all kinds of motions that just ended up with me in more permanent pain ever since. Now I don’t know what to do? What is the name of the specialist I need to see? ?

Basically all day I’m tearing garbage bags filled with soiled linen, (laundry department) Getting them into areas to be weighed and Washed. I presently live in the UK after separating from the military. I explained to them that I had a pain in my neck that I couldn’t place because it would hurt the most in a specific position that I would do without thinking. I would only have the pain , respond to the pain, then go on with my day. Hi! I am an older woman and have a numbness in my little finger on my left hand ! I have most of my life slept on my back! Should I try a different position or pillow or even elevate ing my feet or head on the pillow ? I had a laminectomy in 1992 on 7 discs and after i was hit from behind 6 mths after the surgery, then 2 more times from behind again it wasn't ever my fault. I also have sever TMS where during the night i even felt my upper jaw unhook from the bottom then goes back in . my hands have had Carpal tunnel surgery on both hands and now the back of my hands are numb and tingling i have been suffering from tennis elbow on the right arm for 8 mths now . I do have neuropathy of the feet i have Sjogren's I'm so tired of never feeling okay even, My mother always called me a Doctors Dream...LOL, and that she should of named me Dolores which means Aches and pains in Spanish!

I get pins and needles in my hands EVERY night. It's random, on hand or the other, sometimes two fingers, sometimes just one. It's been going on for 6 months straight. MRI showed annular tears at c5-c6. But I don't know how to fix this, perhaps it cannot be fixed 😢 I'm also scared it might be a brain tumor?

hello doctor i have been having this numbness and tingling since 2017 when i had my son. progrssively getting worst im a veteran in the long beach hospital they diagnose me with severe carpal tunnel but i dont think its the problem maybe part but there is definetely something wrong with my spine. i cant sleep im lucky if i get some sleep i cant go on my right side or left i wake up with this severe pain tingling numbness on my fingers. specially worst on side lying left side i wake up with severe numbness and tingling and sometimes it takes minutes before i get some circulation my neck is stiff and my scapula area hurts takes time for me to feel any circulation im also a diabetic well control i take metformin twice a day my sugar are 120-150

My older sister hit my shoulder with a medal cane back in 2011 and it dislocated it.. The doctors back then only popped the bone back in ND told me that I'll be ok but it was a lie.... ever since then my shoulder was never the same anymore.. I've been seeing specialist for my shoulder and done a lot of test too.. they even recommend a surgery since the nerves are damage and muscle spasm nd much more now not to mentioned this numbness and tingling on my hands are killing me .... pain medicines not even helping at all either..so what now??? (I'm a 30 yrs old women btw) plz help cause I feel like all this doctors and specialist I've been seeing are not even helping me at all ....

Hello, I went and had my neck looked at and I was told that my neck is straight and no longer curved has it should be. I notice when I sleep on the floor with lots of bed spreads, the hard floor help reduced my numbing to where it almost went away. We went and bought another mattress thinking it was very firm but it's not and now my hands are going numb again. Now I just did your exercises with my neck for about 30 minutes and I feel great. Any ideas to help me.

I am 25 and have severe chronic neck pain. Diagnosed with some joint degeneration and mild disc bulges on some levels. Doctors can’t find any nerve issues but I believe when I lay, something gets blocked off…. Okay, I have had this for a long time but not Justin my hands but in my feet as well. The first couple of steps out of bed waking up always suck.
