I love, love, LOVE Neo-classical interiors. Fancy-looking but uncluttered and very clean. God, this is the most beautiful Neo-classical interior I have ever seen. I lived in London for about a year roughly a decade ago. I hadn't known about Kenwood House. The next time I am in London, I will make sure to drop by. :D
Love the place ..used to walk there in the grounds every Sunday !!..visit the house..for years of my London life.. Will have go back and see the New Look..agree about the Vermeer..that Rembrandt ! Thanks W.J. hope not too many people will go tho'..it's such a battle to see anything these days.
I finally got out there in 2010, glorious, and wonderful to hear about the fine restoration. But Waldemar, no mention of the unique enigmatic circle in the monumental Rembrandt self-portrait ? Would like to hear your theory about that element.
Just finished the movie about dido belle and it's nice to see the house still standing there is no places in my country as old as any other country that's why I want to travel and feel history there are some places with age here in the USA but not many and nothing like you have in Europe
Unfortunately the Axminster carpets with their patterns conforming to the ceiling designs have not been restored. The planking of the floors are a negligible Roccoco feature.
