First encounter with the Waldorf M just tweaking some presets. Audio is the main outputs captured by a Burl B2 Bomber. No effects aside from a few seconds with a reverb send in Ableton.
Triggering was mostly improv with one hand (sorry I'm not much on the keys), arpeggios from a keystep pro, some sequencing and progressions sent from the DAW toward the end. Could have read the manual first to better demonstrate a few things..but it is what it is!
Just to give an impression of some of M's tonal quality Might do a video with some context, effects and my own patches in the future. Anyway, thanks for watching!

Best demo I've heard so far, really reminds me of sounds from Drexcya / Arpanet / Dopplereffekt. It has this gnarly aliasing, combined with the warmth of the analogue filters and clever envelope modulation, but my god, that price is just insanely high...Would be a longtime studio workhorse though with its many outputs! Hard to decide 🤣

Hi Rareo, thank you for such a good demo. It's always interesting to see how M inspired people to some sonic exploration. One tip - if you think that LEDs are too bright - in the options, you can change the brightness to comfortable. Greetings from Remagen! Vladimir

Check out the "M" page over at Gear Space to see lots of discussion on improvements and community support. Also, note how often Rareo's videos are mentioned as the "trigger" that made people buy this synth. I'm also triggered here.

I don't know how you're repeating the sounds in some sections... If with an use of a delay or some modulation/sequencing trickery, but it's the first time in life that I hear a synth capable of doing vintage digital, modern digital, analog without falling apart, in its most beautiful, smooth, liquid or crunchy, gnarly and crude ways. The GAS level is over 9000.

Hey Gianluca, perfect description of the sound i must agree. Also, no FX! It's in M's envelopes, mainly in that there are many, and the Wave envelope can go up to 8 stages and be assigned basically anywhere, loop if need be, and it's stages itself be modulated. So for instance you can have this envelope modulate the VCA and bring the amplitude up and down 4 unique times before needing to loop, this that's very delay-esque.

I'm lucky enough to have one of these and whilst using it for the 2nd or 3rd time, I realised that it's the most beautiful synth I've ever heard. I would have happily sold my other gear to get it. Add a drum machine and a couple of fx and skill and you could create endless tracks of electro to ambient and everything in-between. I love it!

Lovely demo, unlike what anyone else has done. This spacey kind of music is beautiful. At present I'm working on my sight reading and keyboard skills, so maybe not for me. I never know what level of keyboard playing other people have, or even if they are interested. I think some synth patches too thick to work as melodic and chord sounds in conventional playing.

Very nice demo, thanks! Really shows the sounds the m is capable of. Sounds different enough to my XT, but with an Ambika (similar aliasing and even better filters) at hand there's a bit too much overlap to justify the 1700 euro...

People are going to say I am crazy but I think nave actually sounds better apart from having no analog filters and it has many good sounding FX and some more modulation capabilities like spectrum and brilliance etc.

Are you playing multi's or only single sounds? It sounds layered sometimes. Really impressed with the sounds and moodiness

There's some multi stuff toward the beginning, but for the most part it was single parts I think. As I started recording this right after I unboxed, I didn't even realize at first i was switching between single and multi patches by clicking the big encoder, rather than navigating to the desired patch. I figured it out a bit as I went though, so now with a better grasp on the structure and interface so might do a part II video and go deeper.

There is something special with analog filters for sure. Cannot put a finger on what, but I guess thats normal. More saturated lower frequencies? A slightly noisy output?

It's a richer sound overall. Those are physical electrons with all kinds of nonlinear complex behaviour in the circuitry. You can't perfectly model that with any algorithm. It's just way too complicated to simulate the physics to that level.

Someone did a sound comparison. This and the MW1 sounded pretty identical to me. This is a bit warm compared to the Quantum.

No idea what they have been doing at Waldorf, but the M sounds like a cheap version of tyhe MW1/ XT/K. Simple as that. Bite has gone. Fatness has gone. Warmth has gone.

If you hear it in person, you will find that your statement is completely incorrect. The M sounds very 3D like with more warmth and punch than the original microwave and XT.
