I've been considering ways to get more videos out, especially about news and updates. So I finally got up my courage and filmed myself speaking off the cuff. What do you think of this format? Should I stick to a script, or would you like to get more regular updates this way?
Visit our website at www.RioGrandePlanSaltLakeCity.org
Check out our Link Tree for access to various social media channels! Updates such as coffee hours and large events should be posted on all our platforms in advance.
Remember to make your voice and your support heard!

Thanks for the update, I think this video format is great because it gave us a bunch of information and it also gave us a status on the project. I will keep working hard to help make the Rio Grande Plan a reality.

I don’t live in Utah, I live in Idaho Falls. I still want this to happen because then it means it can handle more capacity for the potential of passenger rail connecting to East Idaho and Salt Lake City. A stronger rail station in Salt Lake City means a stronger rail network in East Idaho.

Tell your state and federal reps about it! have them reach out to Christian and his group of volunteers!!

Well presented. Proper and active planning is needed for any project of this scale to be successful. America needs dedicated passenger rail service on its own tracks. How stupid we have been.

Random question but how often are you planning to update us about the Rio Grande Plan, I would love to stay updated like some sort of twitter or subreddit, or monthly / bi-monthly update videos, or emails regarding about this plan. I would love for this plan to become reality!

There are many ways to keep in touch with us: linktr.ee/riograndeplan The best platform is probably the Discord, which is a real-time discussion app where we discuss upcoming events. It can be lively at times, but the conversation is always fun!

Also rail is very efficient. It would be nice if we could take a train to the cities along I-15 and I-80. Housing prices will drop if we can live further way.

G'day mate. Would international letters of support help?

That would be amazing! I'm not certain how much effect it will have, but it can't hurt!

Do you think Utah will Create a statewide transit network?
@CSLenhart

There is definitely growing support for the idea. A restored Rio Grande Depot will help grow that support even more. I think it's just a matter of time, but I'm a chronic optimist!

@@CSLenhartLet's say the state does do it. Does the current plan account for future expansion in the case more platforms would be needed?
@CSLenhart

@vasquen The original layout of the Rio Grande Depot had 3 island platforms and 1 side platform, with 6 tracks in total. That same amount of space is still there, but how it gets used is undecided. One reason the Rio Grande Depot may be fine with only 1 intercity platform is that the station would be Through-Running, meaning trains wouldn't need to dwell for long stretches while trains enter or exit service. If all trains simply continue on to either Provo, Ogden, or even a maintenance yard, then one island platform would be sufficient, IMO. Emeryville, California operates in exactly that way, hosts 3 routes, and is very rarely crowded.

This is a VERY good and NEEDED project!! Especially with the Olympics coming to Park City and SLC. I’m really hoping a rail connection will go to Park City!

Hey, I don’t mean to be a downer but do you have any opinion on the “Rio Grande district”? It seems that a UTA adjacent commission is trying to appropriate the Rio Grand depot idea into a series of projects that would compete for attention / resources from the state and city? I live in NY and the Penn Station redevelopment program has been fairly Co-opted by real estate developers that have actively worked against actual improvements to the region’s transit system.

I've been loosely following the Penn Station situation. It's too bad that the developers aren't taking their opportunity more seriously. That could be the case for the Rio Grande Plan as well, but I hope it is just a sign that the Rio Grande Depot is becoming more popular, and SLC wants to ride the popularity wave. Nothing about the Rio Grande District development plan would preclude the Rio Grande Plan. 👍

I suggest you insert UTAH in the heading otherwise it's boring to listen for those who don't live in Utah.
