This was a walk in cooler that had been down for a few days. I found several issues with the unit, the unit had a bad contactor, compressor, txv, ect. I got the unit up and running the same day.

As usual, I was cemented in place until the end of this video. Your ability to express your investigative thought process is a great bonus to your videos. Your analytical process and deductions based on gauge readings are thorough and insightful, something I'm able to recognize at this point is a must-have skill. I appreciate the time spent without comment on soldering your joints and the inspection time. I think the point was made that taking your time will save on backtracking, and preventive measures to protect components during brazing is non-negotiable. Finally, the operating analysis, after all repairs were made is a great bonus to your videos. Thanks for bringing us along. Never a wasted moment.

OMG, he forgot to purge the hose before recovering the refrigerant to his cylinder. My first boss would've lectured me lol. Chris how long does it typically take you, changing a major component like the compressor along with the other components, filter drier, sight glass etc? Your video is edited for 55 mins but how much of the editing do you edit. Do you teleport to the supply house to get the compressor and the misc stuff? Are you some kind cyborg human like the terminator that terminates hvac equipment and doesnt need to eat lunch or take water breaks? Lol

think about what you would have to charge a customer for that after you rent a lift or crane(it turns into a bigger project than just a rope). if the pieces are still made and the customer approves the repairs why get greedy and try to charge them more? theyll turn around and probably go for other bids and more than likely go with who they pick for that for future work.

I can tell that you may not have had any climbing experience since you step on your ropes. Then again, you’re not relying on that rope to carry your body weight. Stepping on the rope forces dirt and grit into the rope which causes them to wear rapidly under tension.
@K7DFA
@K7DFA 4 года назад
Not only that, but rope doesn't really provide a good surface for walking on (I'm a former combat engineer, and our instructors drill that part about the rope wearing out more rapidly into the trainees brains), the other part becomes obvious when you end up taking a pratfall (or two), while stepping on a rope!.

You were concerned about overcharging this unit, yet you have a receiver that at 80% max fill capacity there would be plenty of room to add 2# over full charge. My guess that system could handle 10#+. On headmaster controlled units in cold environments, I usually charge @ 80% receiver capacity. I too put my hat in the ring for StayBrite 8 on liquid lines and suction lines. I reserve braze for discharge lines only. I’ve never had any issues. I’m more concerned about damaging components from overheating them than reaching any burst points. You can usually skip the nitrogen flow too with solder. Curious on your thoughts.

Nice job on everything. I like watching young people in this field, when they discover the process of troubleshooting and the somewhat instant gratification it gives. Nothing is better than solving a puzzle no one else can solve. It's better than drugs, because you can get your "fix", simply by going to work, being thorough, and doing a good professional job. BTW, you may want to put some of that heat-sink on the liquid line service valve in the future, it has teflon and o-ring seals in it. Just saying. :D Great job! Keep doing these vids and posting them. You're going to find new ways of doing things as you get older and better at this job. Keep sharing them. Good luck and keep up the good work!

Hmmm. @41:00 you seem to be confusing ounces avoirdupois (that is, the weight) with fluid ounces (that is, volume). Liquids are almost always measured via their volume; solids are usually measured via weight. "Ounce" can refer to either measurement system, but they are not the same. So, saying that the mfgr specs "40 ounces" of a liquid (volume) doesn't mean that you can compare that to the weight of 35 oz. of oil. Bear in mind, phase-change refrigerants _are_ measured by weight, so you're used to thinking in that metric.

i guess TXV bulb was not touch the pipe properly ,so didnt sens suction temp correctly, coz of that valve not operate properly, then some tech adjust the TXV, refrigerant got extra block, compressor valve receive over weight and internal bypass occur, HP switch got fault itself due to continue open and closed , comp contactor got fault due to comp on and off continuelly coz no time delay or manual reset option. if ever i saw comp bypass first i remove refrigerant ,make 0 psi, on the unit charge refrigerant slowly till again by pass, and the note down the refrigerant weight and pressure and comp AMP at which point its bypass, off the unit reduce pressure little, on unit again, while running under pressure check pipe line is there any unusual temp drop like after condensor , after filter drier, after Liquid receiver, after sutoff valve, if found it mean that part is blocking refrigerant, if not found any , check TXV, make heat the bulb and check open close opration, check TXV adjustment, use screwdriver as a stethoscope and check refrigerant passing sound before and after the TXV, and if sound not constant open and check TXV strainer, could be block, if no unusual pressure and temp drop or refrigerant block, and still comp cant hold the appopriate refrigerant volume without bypass, ill go to final decision as comp is mecanically fault.

Probably 80% of the time i get a vehicle in that "just needs a tune" i have to fix issues that guys thought i could just "tune out." What most people lack is the overall understanding of the entire process, whether it be AC systems, engines, electronics, you can't run through and diagnose issues if you don't understand how the entire system works as a whole. Just to give some context of My night, it started with my water heater leaking and i went looking for info on a Tankless one and somehow ended up here lol. Back long long time ago we used to reuse the d 48 core driers and put them in a oven heating them up release the moisture lots of drier cores used on grocery store start ups foundunits that high pressure problems have realeased some moisture and it freezes in the expansion valve and the vox tep raises up to 3233 degrees and starts operating again until freezes in txv again when you change the compressor and do it properly you remove the moisture and any non condensables that may have entered system from lowrefrigerant leaks on the low side failed low pressure switch

Glad to see your looking after yourself with the portable shade. No good you over heating along with the machine also a working lifetime of unprotected exposure to the sun can lead to nastier problems later on in life.

I watch alot of you videos and enjoy them, often jealous at how much room you have to work in with alot of these units just by pulling a one piece cover off etc, too often I've gone to to this sort of job too often I've been to replace compressors etc and the entire unit I'm working on would just about fit into the space you've got around the compressor alone, especially the temperzone and carrier units I've delt with

I noticed you did that trick where you take the cap off the marker with your teeth, I used to do that but now i keep a retractible sharpie in my shirt pocket. Anyway, great video as always. Thank you for putting so much time into what you do! Keep up the good work sir

Yep! The retractable dry up a little quicker, but not NEAR as fast as the ones I've bitten and cracked the caps on!

Put Silfos on the joint before you sweat it off and it’ll be super slick when you slide it into the next compressor

The discharge pressure always blows my mind. Our ambient never gets near what you have there. Average hot days here are low 80s. Anything above that and systems are struggling here.

Comment as we go, Always wear safety glasses while testing electric . Contractor- lug or screw. Pressure controls that are the pig tail style are junk.

God job. Just a little tip. Move the buld into a horisontel posisiton. The liquid in it will work better when it is in contact with the kapillär, Sorray for my bad english. Greatings from Sweden.

Why did you change the working condenser motors and sight glass? You were a few components with the exception of the receiver and time clock from making it feasible just to change the condensing unit.
