Walk in cooler with DLL fault code

had a walk in cooler that kept tripping out on DLL, discharge line temp, lock out, I finally replaced controller with mechanical psi switches. the old controller would have intermittent faults, because it would no longer cycle the condenser fan motors correctly.

Aw man this is a great video for new tech like me trying to get a grasp on the electrical aspect of refrigeration.

Damn Dave! Those are some beautiful manifolds! Too bad some RU-vidr doesn't have an awesome video on how to rebuild those? 😉👍

Brilliant Dave. I started working out in the field again. Got on with a school district last month and loving it. Working on this very system. I guess it's been tripping on DLT multiple times within an hour which locks it down. Super hot up on the roof obviously. If it keeps tripping I might do this to it.

I do this as well on the B.S. of the Beacon II systems. Beacon II's, pull it all out. Replace with a liquid line solenoid valve, TXV sized to the coil, and a KE2 temperature controller with "off cycle" defrost control. Get rid of the Electronic expansion valve and transducer, as well as the temperature sensor on the suction side. They "say" they've reduced the components, when they have actually increased them. I agree with Dave on the Emerson shite as well, get rid of the over hyped electronic controls and go with "old fashioned" mechanical controls, not transducers. Bring it back to a mechanical systems, as it is. No more failures, no more faults. And, it actually works for years opposed to months with the electronics. Use what works, not what is newly tested,. Make your customers happy and gracious that you actually fixed the problems. The "old stuff" works better than the new shite.

Love it , old school controls and “ leak lock” on the threads. I was already arrested by the “ Flare Police” for doing that. I like to use a manual reset high head switch if possible. Nice job Dave 👍

Yea, Manual Re-set High press. is My go to too ! Too many times i see auto re-sets where the compressor short cycled it self to death 💀. anyway. if it has a Manual Re-set , Customer calls , units down , usually a dead Cond. fan motor , Replace fan motor, hit re-set and everybody's happy ! Auto Re-set = Big bill for Very unhappy customer. Longer Down time too. More Product Loss , Bigger Bill never a good way to go if possible.

You must be in California with Dave. Here it can vary +95f to -20f. On 404A dual fan condensers with no flooded head pressure control, I want the second fan on at 225f in the summer to keep the liquid temp at 80-90f leaving the condenser.

I've had issues with those. Referring to the high discharge temperature thermistor when a freezer is doing a hot pull down. Sometimes the condensing unit is slightly undersized by the installer. So when I run into that I just quote to go mechanical or for the mentioned issue I put the discharge sensor on the liquid line lol

Good call on your method of curing the intermittent fault, but I'm sorry to say mate that those bullet type (as you call them) pressure switches I find are quite unreliable, they don't seem to be able to handle constant operations in an LP pump down situation (I've never used a fan cycling one though, they may be better). They seem to last a year to 18 months tops. Although saying that maybe that's long enough until the next callout ;-)
