Thx. We're still not moved in yet. Still waiting on the power company to connect electric service.. and the plumbing inspector to come inspect the finishing plumbing. And we have to build a couple of decks with stairs. But we're getting close.
Thx for watching. The layout was a big selling point for us. Right from the start.. it was a layout that just made sense. We tweaked it from the original plans slightly to accommodate my aging mom with dementia. Unfortunately, she passed away only 3 weeks after we moved her to the new house.
@@randomstuffwithjoe So sorry you lost her. That would of been very trying. She’ll be looking down from above seeing how wonderful it is. I truly believe when your time comes God makes you whole and better. I hope we get an update when you move in. Blessings being sent your way.
It’s a good thing we locked in our pricing pre-Covid. If we were starting now.. we prob couldn’t afford it either. Prices have skyrocketed and this same house would’ve cost us about $100-120k more than it did. 😐 Thx for watching.
Thx for watching. I should get a updated video up soon. We're nearly finished. I did a lot of the work myself that the log home builder didn't do and I was only able to do most of it on weekends so its taken me a bit longer then I hoped. But we are hopefully moving in next week some time.
I am uploading a updated video right now. I was over at the house today and had some time so I filmed a new video. Its a bit long (25 minutes). I hope you enjoy it. :)
Gorgeous! Looking at Zooks, too. Is there an option for drywall anywhere or is the expectation that every room will be wood from the floor to the ceiling?
We were told they would not do drywall as it tends to crack during transportation. But I'd ask them.. as I've since seen some of their park models with what looks to be drywall. There is an option to get primed wood that can be painted tho. But I believe you'd have to paint it yourself after delivery. Also, you could ask them to leave some walls unfinished and you could drywall it after the home is delivered. We did some drywall in the unfinished area behind the loft. Here's a link to that video.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0wmnNZ2uZbU.html
I'm assuming you meant "square footage"? If so, its about 2300sf including the upper level loft and bedroom. As for the cost.. there's a lot of variables. We had to knock down a condemned house to make room for building the new one. We rented a machine and did all the excavation ourselves. And we did a lot of the site work, decks, gutters, stairs, etc etc. ourselves. We had to hire out the foundation, driveway, heating system, finish plumbing and electric, etc. If you go to Zook Cabins website and choose the model home you like and then put in your zip code.. it'll give you the cost with the base features. Prices have gone WAY up since we built ours tho (covid prices). And we upgraded a lot of features. Overall, you should plan to spend anywhere from $75-100k on top of whatever the cost is from Zooks for a house this size. But we're near Boston where prices are very high. Depending on where you're building.. it might be less.
Thank you. If you go to Zook Cabins website, you can put your zip code in and it'll give you a rough estimate of the house with the standard features. Plan to spend about 25% more on site work, upgrades, and other work. Hope that helps.
There's no way to give you an accurate number. Prices vary greatly based on your location. And the cost of materials and labor has gone way up since I built mine nearly 2 years ago. Also, we did a lot of work ourselves. If you're capable of doing any work on your own.. you can save quite a bit of money. There are too many factors: septic system or town sewer, well water or town water, full basement or slab, heating system, site work, permits, etc etc. But you should expect at least $80-100k (probably more) on top of the cost of the house. We rented an excavator and did our own site work.. I built the decks, steps, and a whole lot of other stuff myself. Do your research. There's a LOT of work to be done aside from just taking delivery of your house.
Unfortunately, prices have increased by about 30% since we built ours. Covid really inflated the cost of materials. You’d be better to get pricing from Zooks as it’s likely to be much more expensive to build now compared to what we paid. If we were to build this same house today, it would likely cost us $100k+ more than we spent.
They are log sided. So basically they are framed like a traditional home.. with 8" log siding on the outside.. and tongue and groove on the inside. It looks like a real log home.. with the higher insulation values of a traditional framed home.
You can go on Zook Cabins website and enter your zip code and they will give you the current cost delivered and set up in your area. I'd rather not discuss prices.. as costs have increased substantially since we built our home in 2020.
A lot of factors go into it. Especially, location. Unfortunately, the cost of lumber and other buildings materials have skyrocketed since Covid began. Luckily, we signed our contract before the prices increased or it would’ve cost us $100k more than we spent. If you go to Zook Cabins website and enter your zip code, it’ll give you prices on all their models with standard features.
