The original song was the soundtrack of the film The Snowman (1982), the NW version is in the the album Oceanborn (1998), so I think this show should be between 98 and 2000. And yes, Tarja is much more operatic.
All of the Nightwish singers are amazing in their own unique way, but Tarja Turunen set the bar. l started my Nightwish journey with Tarja 12 yrs ago. She’s awesome!🤘
The Nightwish version is a cover and was recorded on the album Oceanborn, the band's second. The show you just watched took place in 2000 and was released in 2001 on the dvd "From wishes to eternity". At the time, the group had three albums: Angels fall first (1996), Oceanborn (1998) and Wishmaster (2000). In addition to these 3, Tarja recorded 2 more albums with the band, they are Century Child (2002) and Once (2004). Tarja's operatic voice helped to create the group's identity in its origins and was the band's great differential at the time. Nightwish was the first metal group to have a lyrical singer as a lead singer. This characteristic was somewhat unique at the time and influenced several other bands.
I know this is going to sound like an insult but it's not meant that way. Most people who are recent Nightwish fans would've never been fans if it weren't for Floor. Tarja made Nightwish truly unique and now everyone is enjoying the bombastic Floor versions of the earlier songs. Their current albums can't compare. I admit I do love Floor's talent and she is a perfect fit for this more mainstream Nightwish but as for those of us who were fans from the beginning, we understand just how special it was to be a fan of this band back in the day.
I think it is fair to say Jarkko is Finnish National Treasure. He sings Finlandia at President's Independence Day Ball. His 'decent' (read 'God like') metal vocals are at the heart of Finnish Heavy Metal. Metallisydän- his signature heavy ballad has also been called the mother of all metal songs.
Two absolutely amazing versions of that song. When I had heard the song by Nightwish for the first time back in the days, I had thought it was written by them. Only much later I learned, that they had covered it. But brilliantly, and Jarkko too sings it beautifully. Really great. Thank you for that.😄👍👍
Emppu is playing a different guitar, these days he has his purple ESP EV1 which he rocks almost exclusively. Great song with great vocals by Tarja and Jarkko ❤️🤘🇦🇺
The Snowman, the animation where the original is from, is very popular in Finland and it's part of our Christmas tradition. They show it on TV every year as part of Santa Claus Hotline, a program where you can call Santa and they show different children's programs.
Tarja was 23 at the time of filming. Thoumas may be the same age or within a year either way. I know they were at school together. The film soundtrack sung by a 12 y.o. choir boy.
La era de NW con Tarja es la que más me gusta, te recomiendo ghost love Score, slaying the dreamer, planet hell, phantom of the opera, stargazers, ever dream, etc
You need to check Jarkko singing heavier songs, that's also an experience. Nightwish's version is also a cover, the original song was written for an animation movie btw. Great reaction anyway, thanks for it.
@@JimGames Stormbringer or Holy Diver would be a good choice I think. Not very familiar with his own songs. I mean I like them, but can't remember any names.

Chameleon? Great!!!😀For Jarkko s heavier songs please check Stormbringer (DeepPurple cover) or Highway Star (Dio) or from his band Terasbetoni Metallisydaen
People say Nightwish should take Jarkko to take Marko's place in Nightwish. Very good singer and ...... plays bass guitar (at the same time as Marko). If the rumours are true ....? See *_"Still Loving You"_* : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PiH9PywWjGY.html
Think Floor would have problems with FantasMic and the Riddler. She had some troubles with Planet Hell (but she was new back then). And that's from me who love Floor above all (even my partner lol). She do a good Stargazers though so maybe I am wrong. Its not the live sound from Tarja in this one though. She was not happy with her voice so she rerecorded it. Atleast if you belive empuu, he says that in the book once upon a nightwish
Nice reaction! That was interesting. Two very very different covers. We all know how great Nightwish is, but Jarkko Ahola is also quite good. I think this song has been covered by at least 20 different artists over the years. Interestingly Aurora has also covered this song in the Nidarosdomen concert, yet another different version.
This is one of the few songs from Nightwish that I really enjoy Tarja singing. I think she sound good in ballads. You can check out “Sleeping sun” music video 2005 version, it’s nice :) Nightwish guys plays knights)
Quiet the same, she has really fewsongs that she sings better than Floor but they're all AMAZING: For me, these are: "Walking in the air", "The phantom of the opera" (yes, I've heard Floor's version with Henk & it's amazing but Tarja's version is beyond words), "Sacrament of wilderness", "The pharaoh sails to Orion".
The original is from a European version of what we'd probably call Frosty the Snowman. They obviously do their animations a little more sophisticated over there than we do here in the States! The original singer was a young Welsh (?) choir boy, soprano obviously. It's from back in the 1980s. Nightwish's cover is beautiful, but I prefer Jarkko's, also. I think Tarja has a beautiful operatic voice, but it's a bit "much" for me, to tell the truth. Thanks for the side-by-side, Jim. Of course, everybody is going to have a favorite, but in truth, there's no contest between the two singers. They just have different styles that appeal to different people....🌟💫💛
The film version was sung by an English choirboy but Aled Jones from Wales got the hit single and celebrity status. The 3D animation of the flight to the North Pole was a world first and all hand drawn.
This is the only so called Nightwish song Jarkko has sung....but I would love to hear him sing more Nightwish. These are my two favorite, band and singer I listen most too...so seeing Jarkko with Nightwish would just be two in one...with this one I love Jarkkos singing...
It was a popular theory that Jarkko would be Marco's replacement in Nightwish, and I was also hoping, alas it wasn't to be. But I think there is s till hope since they still need a male vocalist to do Marco's parts. Jukka is a fine replacement for now, but I have to believe they will want someone who can sing like Marco, and this guy can.
Answer to your random question is yes he does lol. In his heavy metal band Teräsbetoni for example. He plays right handed bass and quitar upside down actually...or left handed ones strings reversed. He is leftie that is.
Aurora does a version as well. It's impossibly sweet and haunting. You should do it too, if you haven't already. ••• Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it!
Esta canción la pueden cantar Tarja y Floor increíble.... Pero, para mi, la voz de Tarja en Walking On The Air y The Siren son como hechas para subir al cielo .......❤
I really love Marco's voice so much better. His range is amazing and he does not use falsetto when he sings in the higher ranges. My he will be missed.
This is earlier Tarja before her voice became overtrained and IMHO lost it's sensitivity and empathy for technique. By the way prefer the original version sung by a chorister. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-upH1QZU4Z0Y.html
I love Jarkko's version, but I personally love Jackie Evancho's cover of this (she is 13 years old in this video). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0gqG8KX6_tA.html
Although I don't know Finnish yet, I know every Teräsbetoni song by heart. Seeing Jarkko gaining more attention nowadays warms my heart, but I prefer Teräsbetoni getting back together. Fan since 2008! ❤️
