Classified as a "remarkable garden of France" and winner in 1993 of the grand prize in the competition of flowered cities, the Japanese Garden of Toulouse was created in 1981 by Pierre Baudis, mayor of the city, who greatly appreciated this type of garden, particularly the one in Dublin that he had been able to appreciate during a trip to Ireland.
For specialists, it is a Tsukiyama type garden, composed of artificial hills, a true synthesis of existing gardens and more particularly that of Kyoto.
On more than 7000m2, this garden offers, in the heart of a green space of 10 hectares, botanical varieties from the Far East, a mineral garden, a red wooden bridge typical of Japanese gardens, a dry garden with a crane island and a turtle island, nine rocks, a lake, a tea pavilion and a planted garden composed of a dry waterfall, Japanese footsteps, lanterns.
Other notable features include fruit trees, shrubs, perennials and annual flowers.
