I'm taking a short break from posting Italy Walks. I'll get back to them but I wanted to share a few more winter walks before the season leaves them behind. We took another road trip about a month after we returned from our three months in Italy and stopped off in a couple of places in New Mexico. While @TravelingMel and Anders hiked the highest point in Texas (nearby) I took an hour to film this walk in Carlsbad. The town is out on the flat and on the edge of Oil Country. It has some interesting history to it and of course, the nearby caverns. The caves are pretty amazing and definitely worth the visit. We took a tour and I considered filming but it was pretty dark. Unlike Carlsbad, NM which was bright and shiny for one of our virtual walks for treadmill. It's great walking exercise for weightloss and I like filming them so I hope you enjoy. Keep on Steppin' -H

According to the Mayo Clinic, a daily brisk walking routine can help you maintain a healthy weight and lose body fat, reduce stress and tension, improve your mood, and consequently live longer. And it doesn’t have to be hard. You can work your way up to longer and faster walks, alternate walking speeds. Just push yourself a little bit every day and you can see benefits. It’s a simple fat burning cardio exercise and workout.
Apparently, every 2000 steps walked reudces the risk of early death by 8-11%.
My Story: I'm a filmmaker by trade. In 2016, we sold our house to go traveling for the year in Europe. Since I couldn't work there, I decided to start another RU-vid Channel. I love walking as a way to explore and this was an easy thing to share. It got popular and I've continued. My goal is to share these treadmill travel videos to help your work out with virtual walks.

I grew up in Carlsbad back in the eighties. I attended and was baptized at the first Baptist church you walked by. This is truly nostalgic for me. From the rocket slide at the river park to remembering when the built walmart. My dad's potash mine company used to through their company Christmas parties in the old cavern theater. And I would play in the old Fiesta drive in abandoned buildings when we lived in a trailer park next to it. It would later open up again. I loved growing up in carlsbad.

Hello Henry i really did enjoy this walk , Carlsbad is a very spacious clean place and the residential bit was stunning i could defiantly live there my friend. I did have to chuckle a bit when you almost put your foot in it with the comment on Roswell lol, as a sci-fi fan i would love to go visit that place just for fun. Nice walk and love the Montana vids Henry .

Welcome back to U.S walks, Henry! I loved Italy, but am also partial to our small towns. This walk through Carlsbad was great. I take it we won't be seeing Roswell? 😄 I must admit to finding the place intriguing! 😁

Hey Pam! Not Roswell but Santa Fe and Taos are in the Queue. I've still got a dozen Italy hikes in the library to post as well but wanted to get these cold weather hikes out during cold weather. Thanks! -H

Enjoyed this peaceful little walk. I went to Carlsbad when I was a kid, on vacation with my parents. I thought we were going to Carl's Bad Caverns and I didn't know who Carl was and why he had bad caverns. I liked all the stalagtites and stalagmites. I don't know how to sspell stalagtites. Anyway thanks.

Too cute Victoria. We went to the caverns later and they were spectacular. -H

Thanks for the walking tour at Carlsbad, New Mexico, Henry.. Interesting place.. The temperature seems hot all throughout day and night. And the street looks busy too. Thanks for sharing your video my friend, I hope to see more of your new videos soon.

It's a very retro town. Kept thinking 1960s cars were going to come around the corner

Thanks for the walk Henry. I enjoyed your small dissertation on old time movie theaters. Made me realize that for all the convenience the internet has given us, it has also taken away some of the things a pre-internet world offered. I feel like a small amount of the joy of discovery has been taken away. Anyway, nice to see you getting around. Have you been to all 50 states yet?
@CityWalks
@CityWalks Год назад
HI Tom, good to hear from you. I experienced a lot of joy in movie theaters over the years and miss the ability to do that affordably. I'm pretty close to all 50 at this point. I'm missing NH, RI, OK, and HI. There may be another one and i've been through NH and RI but without stopping. Hope you are well. -H

So I've been "walking" around New Mexico in Google Maps for the last year or so and having you give us a tour around a New Mexico town is such a positive suprise! I hope there's more to come.

I'm Patrick Carter and I'm going to be working in Carlsbad Caverns national park, this was a good video, but I was hoping to see more shopping stores, A Walmart or something. I'm curious about what carlsbad has to offer, I am moving from grand canyon national park.
@CityWalks
@CityWalks 9 месяцев назад
Hi Patrick and welcome. The town definitely has those types of stores but they are so spread out they don't really work with a walking tour. I suggest hopping on google maps maybe? The Caverns are amazing. I hope you have a great experience there. Cheers. -H

I've never seen a town that looked so stuck in the Sixties as far as architecture is concerned. Seemed very neat and clean, but it comes off as the blandest of New Mexican cities.

It’s definitely got a mid century vibe but the downtown is pretty cool IMO and we had some good food while we were there. Definitely different from Taos and Santa Fe though. Thanks for watching and commenting. -H

So many pick up trucks and SUV’s. Question: have you ever been harassed by the police being suspicious of you walking with your camera? They might think you are a first amendment auditor. Thank you, I have enjoyed your videos!!!
@CityWalks
@CityWalks Год назад
I've definitely been nervous about being stopped by police but I've never had any trouble with them. I've had a local resident come up and ask what I was doing which I think is legitimate as I was in a neighborhood. The worst was in Cody when some the outfitters for the trail rides at the Buffalo Bill Cody center threatened to beat me up and wouldn't let me go anywhere until Museum security came. That was pretty scary. The museum staff apologized profusely but it was still a pretty tense situation. There's some people out there that have gotten to the point where they think violence is justified if they don't like what another person says or does. -H
