Honestly I think the thing I find most interesting is the removable front plate, and the fact that their product listing says the CAD files for it are available in the download center (they're not, yet, but it's only been a few hours). Guessing this means we'll see snap-in plates with patches from TrueRC, iFlight, AXii, et al. in due time. Very nice.

Hopefully the bluetooth can be used to connect the goggles to a transmitter for a wireless headtracking setup. I build an arduino board in my DJI goggles V2 that connect to my Frsky X20 with the para bluetooth system just for that reason.

Those LEDs on the front could potentially serve a very useful feature: blinking red if recording. So many times when friends have been flying on DJI and we'd have a great flight in formation and upon landing they discovered they forgot to press record. If the lights on the front blink when recording then an observer can easily see if they are recording or not and prompt them to start recording if they're not. Also, am i assuming that if you turn the IPD knobs that it will introduce some diopter so that theres no need for contact lenses or corrective lenses if you wear glasses? That's amazing if thats the case. Very interested in finding out more about the head tracking, if that works.

Hello Lee, I personally would be interested if you can still wear your glasses while using the googles. With my DJI googles it works fine. Hope the weather gets better in UK that you can thoroughly test the googles. BR, Christian

Those look like nice goggles. The lack of any significant new features is a testament to how good the prior version is. Optics, SD location, AV ports, foam, LEDs, just don’t get me that excited. Maybe head tracking, if it’s there. Sounds more like WS wants FS out of their pockets.

They look very good. If they had an analogue module bay, I would have been adding myself to the pre-order. As it is, I'll wait for them to come out, get updated and hit the UK along with a few aftermarket foams. Then, if the dollar to pound price is still roughly 1:1 I think I'll get some of these. If my decision seems a bit over cautious, I should explain I do a lot more line of sight flying than FPV, I still want to be able to fly things like my Mobula 6 and certainly won't be going WS on most machines just due to how little they are flown. I could almost have ignored HD altogether till somebody let me have a battery's worth of flight on their Beta FPV 85mm Walksnail quad during an indoor. Once you've seen it ...

@@alfindo27 Interesting. I don't know how to use this with a module so I guess some sort of specific housing would be needed? I saw Stu's video and it turns out the top plate comes off to reveal an upgradable receiver so new goggles are not needed if new HD technologies come out. Very neat. He also alluded to the possibility of an analogue module on top of the goggle in a 3D printed housing. I am now much more intrigued!

Hi Lee, Great video and review of the walksnail googles. I would love to fly with them. The price is great and I like that you can use the google box and leave the antennas on. I just wanted to ask if the lenses were OLED or Not. I would have to purchase a analog receiver module. The only problem I have is the camera and unit are still $120+ each. Thanks again for the video and information about this googles.

Fixed wing head tracking if for when you turn your head....it will turn the camera on the plane the same direction.....so you can look left or right outside of the cockpit.

Please test the HDMI IN with some PC flight simulator, could be one entry level VR headset other than only a good FPV google... And I think that the bluetooth could be used for headtracking in simulators in the future...

Hey Lee, could you consider doing a Vtol INAV video in the near future as inav 7 now supports vtol flight, a very exciting development for us who have always wanted to play around with vtols but didnt want to use ardupilot or a non opensource solution, great video very tempting me to get a pair alongside my o3 gear

It will work with Walksnail natively, external HD receivers via the HDMI in and external analogue receivers via the AV in.

I still have my analogue goggles that said they had HDMI input. Little did I know they were using some old hdmi protocol or something so they didn't work with my pc or ps4. Skyzone O2X. I wonder if these will have the same problem. I wouldn't buy before I see a review video that shows this working without some janky mods.

I currently have the Fatshark dominator HD and the optics look like looking through keyholes because they are small compared to the optics in something like the DJI v2 goggles. Does the new walksnail goggles have the same issue? Thanks

Lee; if you're in contact with them, would you please ask about the note on the website which says "Lenses for astigmatism, myopia and blue light-blocking glasses can be replaced to meet different vision needs?" When will those be available? Will it be a pair of lens shells you can take to your optometrist? I can't see them offering thousands of lens options.

The lack of an internal head tracker and analog support is disappointing. I was really excited to see these being teased, but i may stick with my HD0 goggles with the WS Vrx for now. Thanks for the review Lee.

@bariso101 I rewatched the section many times... Lee said it has a protocol for an external headtracker for use in the future. Disappointing since they say it has an on board gyro.

@@D_Beaux_FPV Thanks DB. Their a good option but they have built in patch antennas and can't upgrade them unless their opened up and have sma adapters soldered on. Would be interesting to know what range is achieved with the stock patch antenna's.

For someone who is just starting out and only wants to fly 1s whoops, how can we power these googles without the need for large lipos and chargers, can these goggles be powered by lithium ion batteries and what about flying at home, can they be powered from the wall ?

You can power the goggles form a LIPO battery. It doesn't need to be big or expensive.. Best of luck.

It would be cool if these could use the DJI VTX's or vice-versa, so we can all be on the same ecosystem. Like back in the day with analog. I would buy one of each goggle if they did. The first guy to hack these to work with the DJI video transmitters, or made a universal HD video transmitter that worked with all brands, will be my hero.

That would be great wouldn't it? I doubt that DJI are interested in working with 3rd parties to provide interoperability and extend the life of their hardware. That isn't their business model. Happy flying!

Dreams indeed. It'll never happen until a better, open standard for HD FPV comes along and re-writes the rules (see ExpressLRS for radio protocol!)

Which goggles better: DJI Goggles v2 or Walksnail Goggles X? I like DJI for possibility of receiving analog signal (with special module, of course), but it has limitet range and it's hard to record OSD, DJI's air units are more expensive than Walksnail's. Goggles X looks as a good concurent if Goggles v2, but it isn't clear. Can you, guys, advice, which one better?

Depends what you mean by 'better'. I like Walksnail as it as they work with projects like INAV and Betaflight as well as developers like Sneaky_FPV on the fonts. They listen to us too, so new features are what we are asking for. DJI do non of those things and their business models depends on selling you new goggles and hardware all the time. I'm not a fan of a vendors who doesn't build in enough compatability and pushes customers to spend again to get new features. See WTFOS as a perfect example of something that the community did to improve the original DJI goggles, that DJI purposely didn't do... Happy flying

I can fly 8.5 miles on my dji v2 with just 2 true rc singularity and 2 true rc x air mk2 antennas and that's at the 700 mw setting, i do use lolipop 4 plus on vtx's tho. I'm switching all my planes over from analog now, all except my ultralight fpv planes. I just use my fat shark scouts for analog there fantastic for $200 I can fly 9 miles with a tbs unify pro 32 on the scouts.

The challenge (from what I can see here), is that the 'sweet-spot' for the pupil is smaller in the VR style optics when compared to the lenses in the FatShark stuff. Apart from that, they work really, really well. They are cheaper too as they are used in many systems and that helps reduce the costs of the devices..

Far more distance is possible with the system if you use sensitive directional antennas and higher powers (if legal to do so where you are).

Hi Lee, just received mine but after powering on IAM struggling to get to the menu. A quick picture of goggles comes on then goes off pretty quickly. Any ideas please.

There is a sensor that turns off the screens if they are not on your face... you can disable it in the menu...

Their range of diopter adjustment is +2.00 to -6.00. Typical! I need +2.25, and replacement lenses don't appear to be available for these goggles 😕

No power switch...? I don't like that, I have the batteries attatched to the head strap on all my goggles. Love the power switch on the old goggles, even DJI and HDZero has a switch. The HDZ switch lets you choose if ju like pulling and reattaching the the cable or flick a switch.

2:35 There it is. *The magic words!* I can finally jump ship and start paying 2-3 times as much for VTx's and cameras! Awesome! But now I don't have to swap everything I have to digital, or carry my old analog set when I fly the.... 25-ish analog ships I have in the hangar. This is truly a huge day!

This is not their first foam design, I'm expecting different foam faceplate to be available. Fits my face OK, with cheek gaps, but is too wide for one of my flying buddies with a narrower face... Happy flying
