Andrew Stanton (director of Wall-E) requested this movie to be in the Criterion Collection because he was aware of how it spoke to other filmmakers also it’s tribute to silent films. I doubt there’s going to be another Disney Criterion release.
Fun fact: the artwork behind the discs is a screenshot right before the title is shown in the movie itself, look really closely and you will see WALL•E going down the side of the tower. This is an impressive move on Criterion's behalf. I love this set. Worth buying.
Since Disney's new animated movie Strange World flopped at the box office, the 4K is going to be completely exclusive to the Disney Movie Club (except the Steelbook, which will still be at Best Buy)
That original 4K of Wall•e presents the movie in HDR10. The Criterion version presents the movie in HDR10+, which is apparently better quality. And it has some brand new special features NOT included in any previous releases
actually, a few Disney titles have gotten criterion collection releases prior to WALL-E, but none of them were from the main Walt Disney Pictures division. Armageddon - Touchstone Pictures The Rock - Hollywood Pictures Chasing Amy - Miramax Films it’s also worth noting that Lionsgate would later reprint the Chasing Amy DVD. (and Paramount reprinted again, but with no criterion branding.)
I love this set I was going to buy the original Disney 4k release because it was 15 on sale at one point but I decided to grab this because I like the artwork and I wanna support the newest release there both the same source but this has a lot more special features
I notice that back in 2022. But I thought you were not interested on getting more Criterion Collection sets since the last one you got was A Brief History of Time Stephen Hawking Documentary Blu-Ray+DVD.
Hopefully this opens the door for more animated films to get the criterion editions I mean I would love a criterion edition of captain underpants the first epic movie Or even the adventures of raggedy Ann and Andy film from Richard Williams
Why? It's historically important. The only weird thing about it is that Disney usually doesn't license out films that are released under their main label.
