I'm liking that Cameraman John's role is becoming more active; I'd say my viewing experience was greatly enhanced by his tactile encounter with the jam

Why not try oiling the spoon (or coating it with any substance like cooking spray) so that the jam doesn't stick to it?

the spoon shape is what failed, you need a custom spoon, more concave, specially at the tip, like if it has a lip or small wall, whatever you wanna call it

I love watching William make crazy machines. The dude is crazy intelligent when it comes to engineering and making things work, but he works like an average Joe attempting to make a crazy thing he saw on TV.

As a kid, when I saw the scene with the jam launcher, I thought the jam was actually ketchup, so I put ketchup on my toast for most of my childhood thinking it was normal. Toast with ketchup is still pretty good.

It seems like the basic platform can work, with just two factors more fully accounted for. The first is that some kind of a stop bar is fairly necessary in order to achieve an optimal release time for the jam. A Roman onager would be a good example of how that type of thing worked historically. Second, the jam itself is likely the source of most of the problem, since it seems like you either have a kind which is so viscous that it is basically solid, and thus a better projectile, but won't really spread itself on the bread on impact, or a kind which is better at spreading but has far less than ideal ballistic properties. If you did further testing to engineer the perfect jam consistency for a balance of both, that would go a long way.
