That’s an interesting take. It’s true that Edward (Eddy) seemed to avoid taking on real responsibility, and Wallis may have been a convenient way to justify that. Their relationship certainly had a profound impact on his life and decisions.
Great video, Jon! I’ve always been fascinated by the story of these two. I never felt she truly loved him and she thought she was his flavor of the month. I felt he was very weak and needy. Your comment about him wanting her to be cruel to him as to be sure he did not get soft shows how soft he really was. He needed her to be cruel to him like his Mother was to him. He and all of his siblings suffered from a loveless childhood. Keep the videos coming!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! The dynamics between them are truly fascinating, and it’s clear that their relationship was far from straightforward. It’s interesting to consider how his childhood may have influenced his need for that kind of treatment. I’m glad you enjoyed the video-there’s definitely more to come Trish!
Thank you Liam for watching! It’s true-there are so many ‘what ifs’ when it comes to Wallis and her impact on history. The course of events certainly took a different path because of her, and it’s fascinating to think about how things might have turned out differently.
That’s a great point! Even if Edward and Wallis had stayed on the throne, without any children, the line of succession would have eventually passed to Queen Elizabeth II. It’s interesting to think about how history would have played out, but ultimately, she was destined to become the monarch.
It’s definitely a question that many people have pondered. Wallis was certainly a unique and interesting figure, and whatever it was, Edward clearly saw something in her that captivated him. Their relationship is one of history’s great mysteries! Thanks Theresa
Thank you so much! Wallis certainly was a unique and fascinating figure in history. That’s interesting about your Ma’s maiden name-Warfield is a name with some notable connections, even if there’s no direct relation. I appreciate your comment Lisette.
Interesting , that as Supposively as wealthy as her father was ? He left nothing for his family to survive on which says outright that either had little or it was squandered ?!
The decision to allow Prince Charles and Prince Harry to marry divorcees without affecting their place in the line of succession reflects how the monarchy has evolved over time. Queen Elizabeth II recognized that times have changed, and the rules governing the royal family needed to adapt to modern values and expectations.
Thanks for your comment! It’s true-some people’s actions really make you shake your head. In the end, we all have to live with the consequences of our choices.
