That bus stop and supposed drop off area is notorious for loitering and pan handling and individuals just staying in the bushes near that very parking lot. Months on end, walking down that street requires hypervigilance that is beyond civil necessity. Even just w.a.i.t.i.n.g. like a law abiding citizen or for the sake of pedestrian safety at a no walking sign, you are targeted by those predatory enough to approach and acost you while waiting at a light. Seriously. No can dis kine already.

It’s just a matter of time till people will take the law into their own hands, the government of Oahu is not focusing on the locals of Hawaii, it’s so sad, they are passing bills that actually are for the wrong people… We as locals and try to work hard and keep the Aloha are really tired of this….

Remember that 7/11 employee sick and tired of these criminals come stealing the 7/11 he worked and make trouble to them and customers. He took law on his own hands and that’s how he ended up cut the suspect’s hand. Workers will take matters into their own hands if nobody helps them…..

Might I add Makaloa Street at some point was a festering ground for illicit activity? And back roads at Rycroft and Sheridan behind that very walmart and mcdonalds and that previously vandalized buddhist temple are dangerous. Ask any one of the construction workers, or nearby high rise business of the very visible activity in that area. Continue documenting escalation.

46 larceny reports, 13 vandalism reports, 12 burglary reports, and 11 assault reports in one week within a 1-mile radius? I'd call that a continuous spike in crime.

Kind of off topic. From my experience. Walmart doesn't care. Each day he missed work is going to be counted against him. As a disclaimer, I worked for Wal-Mart from 2006 to 2008. Admittedly, things could had changed since then. A manager told me that they should had fired me when I called in sick with the Flu. I had never been that sick before up to that point. I was to weak to do anything. It took everything I had to just to call (1800 #) in sick to get a code. And to call into the store to give them the dam code.

What do you expect when having a large strip club down the street and two other ones a block away on Kapiolani right next and across Ala Moana mall, plus the bunch of massage parlors, buy me a drink bars, and weed stores. All this crimes is because the customers of all this establishments in the area. I bet there’s also a bunch of illegal gambling rooms. I don’t drive around that area after dark, is always sketchy and highly risky.

Later that night, also in the Ala Moana area, a brawl involving what I'm guessing involved a street gang, sent 5 men to the hospital, while HPD is has opened up a first-degree murder investigation pertaining to one of the other men involved in the brawl.

I have had several very scary, dangerous encounters on the streets in different neighborhoods in the past 6 months. In Waikiki, Safeway/Longs on Vineyard Blvd, and Ala Moana. I managed to escape by the skin of my teeth. Also guys following me into stores intent on mugging me (that was in Chinatown and Kalihi, daytime). I have lived here over 20 years and I am a pedestrian/bus rider. In past years I would walk, mostly solo, all over Honolulu, at all hours, waited at bus stops, and rarely felt threatened. Peacefulness was the norm. Something has happened; there seems to be a new breed of criminal. Some seem to be utilizing bicycles. Also, since the pandemic HPD is down 400 cops.

Car owners do not have the same sense of street crime as pedestrians because once they make it to their cars and get in they are safe.
