Walnut Grove, Minnesota was the home of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the novels which the television show "Little House on the Prairie" was based on.
I'm 49 and I grew up watching little house and the family values it had is what I love most however what did the real house look like? Short of the dugout on plum creek you know the tv show was not based on alot of her books Mary did go blind in real life but she never got married so she never had a child die in the blind school fire that the show protrays she lived with ma and Pa her entire life. Just out of curiosity what did the house really look like. Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote a lot of books on her life. That should have been in the tv show not Hollywood Albert didn't exist James and Cassandra didn't either. Her books she wrote is on her life that's what they should have shown us.
@@shirleymiller4219 right it freaking traumatized me as a kid when her child died in the blind school fire then it really pissed me off 30+ yrs later to find out that Mary never got married much less have a child that died. There is entirely to many books in Laura Ingalls Wilders collection that they had to make up dialogues for the tv show just tell the facts about life in the 1800's it was hard and harsh her books tell that
Caryn Smith I totally agree. The pilot movie was pretty much as her book went while they lived on the Kansas prairie. One of my favorite scenes their from her book was when Mr. Edwards stayed for supper out by their campfire. They were still building the cabin. “Stewed jackrabbit and gravy with plenty of dumplings.” The firelight, moon shining down on them, the stillness of the prairie, and Pa playing his fiddle. Quietly at first I think to go along with the quiet prairie that night. The picture of the scene is in her book. The picture and her words created the atmosphere so beautifully of that evening. I know it was only a two hour movie; but what a lovely scene it would of made. And then Mr. Edwards dancing with Laura at the end. Did you have a favorite scene from Kansas?
That was one of my favorites to the Kansas one I haven't watched the little house movies in a long time 6-7 yrs I just wished they had gone more by her books and even go into the era of Rocky Ridge and with Laura's daughter it just seems when Rose was born you didn't hear or see much of her either
Caryn Smith I did like the era of Rose as a child; her and her parents journey from South Dakota to Missouri. Their first year there in Mansfield and then building up Rocky Ridge.
