For me, having control of the attack time is essential. For Vox amps, I don’t want the compressor engaging until after the transient as Vox transients are wonderfully musical. For Fender amps, especially blackface circuits, they exaggerate the guitar’s natural dynamic range and transients are too peaky and harsh. A fast attack time attenuates these. The middle of the attack time range is where those compression artifacts live. When compression engages mid-transient, it causes that thwappy pumping sound, like a Dyna Comp. I am not a fan of that sound. Attack control makes the blend control irrelevant too, imho.
