Did you see the Horse and Carts lined up top end of Prince St at 1:23 ?? waiting to go into the Gas works. Yes things have certainly changed and not for the better in my opinion. Generally and overall Pleck was a very nice place back in the 70's... Thanks for watching.
Yes I see it now. We have traffic lights on that junction now, turn left Manor Hospital, straight on, Rolling Mill Street... Fascinating !!! Blimey how that whole area has changed since the 1930's. Thanks for that. :-)
im only 17 but i like learning about the local history in the area especialy RAF airfields train stations railways i think people dont understand how much things have actualy changed in a short amount of time, thanks for the upload
@@johnprescott7389 Yes sir I was always fascinated by things people my age didn't relate too at the time maybe because I wasn't out all the time haha I enjoyed my youth later on
Thanks; a superb set of images. At 1.50 I noted a postbox with a small stamp dispenser attached to it. It looks identical to one I knw in Stafford, and which still exists. The sum to operate it... just 5p for two stamps, 2p and 3p.
Thats ok thanks for showing interest in your local area. Yes many things change over the years, at the time we don't think much of it, but a few years further down the road and all becomes more clear, but its usually too late by then... Once buildings have gone they have gone forever.... No going back !
@miketravis I began Palfrey Infants in 1966 moved across to the Juniors in 1968 and finally left in 1972 I know the faces you mentioned, loved Graingers model shop, especially gazing through the shop window at the model train set. Im 49 so you would be slightly ahead of me at Palfrey. I too lived in Palfrey back then near the Bradford. :-)
I have no idea what tune you had to play, but I do have vague memories of you with the Glockenspiel and having some practise with it, Im sure I ended up with a triangle at some stage, maybe that was another play in another year, my memory banks are fuzzy now... :-) Funny eh what stays put in your memory after so many years...
if you look carefully, the top left hand is the BOAK saddleworks in bridgeman st. The junction in the centre is the pleck road, left towards the manor hospital, and right towards bescot. The road coming towards you is alumwell road. The pub on the junction is the forge.
@Bevoin1970 Ok. I know people in your video. 0:14 Graingers model shop in Caldmore. The guy with the big shirt lapels behind Graingers daughter. 0:21 Palfrey jnr school Head Mr Aston. Deputy Head "Fanny" Fenton, and the guy who looks like the priest in Poltergeist2 I think is Shilvock? or Savigar? I was at this school in the late sixties were you there too? I am 53 years old and lived in p Palfrey until 1983. Cheers Mike.
Yeah, you'd all come out with the same hair-cut no matter what you asked of him. The guy who ran the barbers, he retired only about 2 or 3 years back can you believe it?
Ha Ha ... I bet that shocked you when you saw those pictures? Thing is do you remember them? You just made my day Mark !!! Im chuffed to bits. Glad to hear your still out there somewhere... :-)) Take care and Im glad you saw this. Paul
@dayiiv Thanks for the offer but no, I don't have any of the others plus time is limited for me at the moment. Why don't you make a video and use them yourself?
Ahhh yes, back in the old days when Walsall was a town to live in and be proud of. Not anymore. Good lord, what a comparison to today. Filthy, dirty Caldmore, Palfrey, Pleck and the Birchills. Full of unsavoury characters of the non-English kind - you know what I mean. These areas are to be the top of your list to avoid should you have the misfortune of setting foot into this dilapidated, run-down town, just north of Birmingham (also a no-no). For health, well-being, safety and security I advise anyone to stay clear of Walsall. Thank me later...
