Unfortunately due to maintenance problems, WDWRR no. 1 “Walter E. Disney” had to be put away VERY early in the day. I initially caught Walter waiting in the station empty at 9:37, and 5 minutes later (as shown here), he was clear of the mainline. Unfortunately, this meant Roy O. Disney no. 4 was running solo on the tracks and longer wait times were experienced. It wasn’t until 12:03 PM approximately that they had Lilly Belle online (video coming soon). It wasn’t clear how long Walter had been sitting there before the decision was made to take him out of service for the day. But I presume he had to have been there for some time. As the day went on, Walter never returned to service.
I’m unsure of what the problem was, but it had to have been serious if they had to put him away and swap out trains. With a fourth locomotive out of state and out for a rebuild since 2019 and presumably not enough cast members trained and or available to run 3 trains at a time, it’s a look at what can go wrong with a railroad at any given time, and a look at the struggles Disney can face on occasion with day to day operations.
