Jerry West and Walt "Clyde" Frazier are 2 of the greatest guards in NBA history. Both hall of fame players faced off against one another in the NBA Finals a few times during the 1970s when the Knicks and Lakers were NBA powerhouses.
This video will cover the 5th game of the 1972 NBA Finals, specifically both players highlights (all their shot attempts, defensive plays, etc.). The video is meant to give the viewer a proper look at the type of game both players had during their time in the league, as opposed to just showcasing their made baskets. The duel that takes place in this game is one for the ages.
Enjoy!

Walt "Clyde" Frazier was great, and he was and still is, underrated.

Bullshit. I saw every game they played. Together. Wilt said he kicked his ass often .

I'd love to see other games from that series. I've seen this in its entirety several times.

Even the full version is missing the last couple minutes. The rest of the series is gone, They didn't save stuff back then. The tapes were expensive and cumbersome. They didn't throw the tapes away, they used them over and over. They just taped over stuff. Only game 5 of the 73 series exists and MSG had to go through an entire process to restore that tape to semi watchable status. I think that game was found through someone who had a primitive recording system. The NBA didn't have it. I saw this entire series live. First saw this again in the later 90s on Classic Sports network , later ESPN Classic. Didn't like it then and never like it when I do watch it. I say this painfully because Walt Frazier was my favorite player growing up. He is HORRIBLE defensively in this game. Go to maybe 1355 and watch for just 3 or 4 minutes and count how many times West goes right by him off the dribble. Not got a step, RIGHT BY HIM. Without picks. The times that Frazier goes by West West was picked. One time he just lost West, leaving him wide open for a jump shot. Riley went right by him once when he went for a reach around steal. He did get 4 or 5 steals, but about 2 of them are his doing. The others are bad passed or looe balls. One was directly from West where he had lost control of the dribble and Frazier picked it up. This why you have to watch the games because stats can lie. I think West hot 10 for 28 so Frazier did a great job. Hardly. West missed multiple shots at the rim, after getting by Frazier, because other Knicks, like Jackson, met him at the rim. One time he goes by Frazier, Lucas picks him up and he slips it off to Wilt who scored. Stats say that Lucas' man scored. Watch the game and you know who was at fault on that play. Someone else in this thread said Frazier outplayed West in this series. I can't very well argue that when Frazier shot almost 60% this series and West in the low 30s. He was really bad in the Buck series as well, but even worse her. Bad shooting wise, his floor game was fine. This was the only game in the series that Frazier took 20 shots and he missed several open shots in these highlights. I remember him being 7 for 7 in, I believe, early in the 2nd quarter of game 2 and sort of just stopped shooting. I'd like to see that game with adult eyes and see why. I didn't remember it being West's defense, but maybe it was. I sure hadn't remembered how bad Frazier's defense was in this game when I saw it again 25 years ago. I'd like to see more of the series to maybe see better Frazier defense. It would be hard to be much worse. The Knicks killed them in game 1 of this series and Debusschere got hurt in game 2. You can see that he is hardly a factor in this game. Not saying the Knicks would have won, but I think it would have been closer.

same here. Watched every game live. Might have been a closer series if Debusschere didn't get hurt in game 2. He came back, but was hampered for the rest of the series. Knicks killed them in game 1.

@@manny4552 I was a Knicks fan. Being emotionally invested helps you remember events in more detail. Plus, I was 12. I don't know how old you were, but if you are 6 or 8 Idon't imagine that you would remember it as well. This game is the only broadcast footage of this series that I've seen since it aired and I can tell you that my memory of this game didn't hav West going right by Frazier as many times as he did. So, I don't remember it in great detail. Just some detail.

Yep, and he may have been better in each of the three championship series that they met. West shot more of course, so he scored more. But in the 1970 series, West shot 45 percent to Frazier's outstanding 54 percent. In 1972, the year the Lakers won, West shot only 32.5% to Frazier's great 58%. So it was Gail Goodrich and Wilt Chamberlain that were the stars of their (the Lakers) championship team. And in 1973, West shot 44.2% to Frazier's 47.9%. So West's highest FG percentage was 45%. That was lower than Frazier's lowest FG percentage..... ASSISTS: West 7.7, 8.8, 4.6 Frazier 10.4, 8.0, 5.2 REBOUNDS: West 3.4, 4.0, 3.2 Frazier 7.7, 8.0, 6.8. FG%: West shot 45, 32.5, and 44.2% Frazier shot 54.1, 58.5, and 47.9%.....So as you see, it doesn't make any sense for anyone to belittle the great Walt Frazier. Even Wilt Chamberlain once said that Frazier always kicked West's ass. They both were great though.

Jerry is Jerry.. no doubt. Imagine how many points he would have had with a 3-pt line.. sheesh. But we also have to be honest: Walt was as clutch as they come in big games. Gotta tip my hat to him. He had some monster playoff performances in the early 70s.

He wasn't good as West but he completely outplayed West in game 7 of the 1970 NBA finals. He had 36 points and 19assists and they won the ring.He also has 2 rings to 1 over West.West was a superstar but 1-8 in the finals?? That's pathetic!!

@@truthdude8849 dream on and Frazier was my favorite player. But no way he was better tnan West. Maybe for this series where West had a terrible shooting series. Terrible the series before as well.
