About this Video:
I love it when companies stick to their guns and don't always follow the "newest" thing. Newer, does not always mean better. The Walther LGU is a new airgun based around a metal spring power plant. The "new" thinking is that gas rams are "better" than springs. Well, that's just not the case. It all depends how that power plant is put to use. In the case of the Walther LGU, it's done expertly well, perhaps the best I've ever shot. The .22 cal is not going to impress the "power" junkies, but it will impress the accuracy folks. This is a wonderfully built airgun that's simply a dream to own and shoot.

Great review Rick....I have owned the LGU .177 Cal rifle for nearly a year now...what can I say..you get the best of both the TX-200 and the HW-97 in one rifle...absolutely brilliant..build quality is second to none..Walther did a great job with this rifle...love your RU-vid channel Rick..your reviews are excellent...always informative and entertaining..my very best regards... David from England.

MrRadiorobot - Thank you for your kind words. The LGU is certainly one of my top favorite airguns. I really love that gun. Cheers AGW

Once i watched shootingatdawns video, plus the german lanugage translated tear down, i had to have this beautifully designed gun. Owned several break barrels like everybody else, had enough of crappy accuracy, and underlever seemed worth trying. And it was - best pell gun i ever owned! The accuracy is great, craftsmanship is tops, the tear down could not be easeir, after about 100 shots i took apart just to regrease with walther moly grease and noticably smoother after that. I got for $380 shipped at a sale from Airguns Arizona, the very best part. Couldnt be happier with it.

Thanks for responding to my request for a review on this air rifle. Truly awesome gun I'm tempted to get one over a pcp. As always Rick you did a very good review and full of good information.

Ahhh, back to basics! I love your reviews like this!! What I mean by that is I was concerned that your recent interest and focus on big bore airguns was going to keep going that direction and you'd forget about us "little" guys! I mean, how could you possibly review any airguns that I did not have a specific interest in? Only kidding Rick! I enjoy and look forward to all your reviews! They are all interesting and informative! For that I thank you.

Paul Farrell - Glad you liked the review. I wish I could have 5 guns in the queue ready to review, but I get what I get from my sponsors and manufacturers. I spent a lot of time at SHOT trying to work angles to get a broader variety of airguns in for review this year, especially some more budget friendly airguns. Keep your fingers crossed!Cheers,AGW

"5:10 - Field Target gun" For those who may not know Field Target rifle = .177 and up to 20ft-lbs The targets can be placed as close as 10 and as far away as 55 yards

Dan Paul - .22 is also permitted for field target.. Depends on the rules in place. Also, this is available in .177 for those that want to shoot .177. Cheers AGW

I have the 23 joule / 17.7 fpe version of this rifle in .177. It is a wonderful 'long range' rifle. You can expect less than 1 inch groups at 50 meters. I would almost call the version Rick reviewed the 'field target'-version. So for anyone that feels that this rifle is underpowered, know that there are more powerful versions available.

Hi there l have version with 9.5 ft lbs and it's so accurate but I'm thinking to purchase from nederland 23 jules versions which is 17 ftlbs do you think this high power version will be less accurate then my 9.5 lbs? The recoil in mine is very small. What about yours high power one??? Please advice me thanks

Rick:You mentioned using the "artillery" hold with this airgun?I fully understand why that technique is necessary when shooting a break barrell gun.Since this is not a break barrell gun, as the LGU has a basicly unmovable, straight, barrel to receiver connection, is it really necessary to use the "artillery" hold? Does using it get you any better accuracy than simply using a benchrest?

Rick, you on Air Guns, and sootch00 on powder actuated guns, are my 'go to' sources for good reliable information. Like Paul Farrell ( below) eluded to, I too thought you were starting to go or lean towards 'dream guns' perhaps a tad too much. Folks like me, like the more reasonably priced 'shootin' irons' and I have a few of them. Like the Spanish made Norica.with the Gas Ram System...any chance on you reviewing one of these Norica's ? Thanks for all your work....I do enjoy and appreciate whatever you put up here.

Reg Sparkes I wish that I was independently wealthy and could only review what I wanted to. Unfortunately, that's not the case. I've asked all my sponsors for some reasonably priced options and entry level break barrels, but what I'm getting are more the "dream guns." Now I believe I'll have some good, more traditional reviews coming out here shortly. I'm just waiting for some stuff to come in. I really appreciate your feedback by the way. It's very helpful to me.CheersAGW

The .22 of the LGU is not just a "back yard target gun" it is also used for small game hunting like birds, squirrels and rabbits. I do not hunt but know people that do with this gun and the TX200.

Very surprised you decided on a pictorial for the cocking sequence. It makes it seem like the cocking was too awkward to show.
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 9 лет назад
Not at all. I'm very used to underlever guns. they are more work than traditional breakbarrels, but not cumbersome once you get use to it. This has a nice wide breach that's very easy to load. I used images during the voiceover to try and condense the videos somewhat to get the same amount of data in a smaller time footprint. Cheers AGW

Hi l just have a quick question l have bought this rifle in UK 22 cal and after few shoots rifle has 9ft lbs of power but very accurate. Now l have found the same air rifle from nederland with 23 jules / 17 ftlbs of energy which lm thinking to purchase but my question is if this high power rifle will be same accuracy as my low power? And also do you think there is something wrong with my rifle because power is at 9 to 9.5 ft lbs?? Please advise me something if you can Thanks
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 4 года назад
If you are in the UK, you probably have the sub 12 FTLB model. The other one probably has the height power spring. Accuracy on the higher power model is excellent. One of the best springers at 50 yards, shooting 1” groups regularly. Cheers AGW

M H I bought the HW97K because I was able to get better pricing. Even though I own a couple of high end FX pcp... the 97 is my favorite. I have the most fun with it. Generally you will find better price on the 97 but the quality is no less :)

@2lbsTrigrPull
@2lbsTrigrPull 9 лет назад
It's basically a copy of both. TX200 and HW97. Has the ugly looks of a HW97 mixed with all the goodies of the TX200 (centrical transfer port, free rotating piston, buttoned piston and compression chamber, good barrel with real choke) but lacks the good quality of a TX200 or the industry standard for good triggers (Rekord from Weihrauch).
@dejanmrsevci
@dejanmrsevci 9 лет назад
Rick can you rank lgu, tx 200 and hw 97 ?
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 9 лет назад
Sure thing.. this may sound like a bit of a cop out, but please bare with me. When you buy guns at this level, they generally all perform very well. It will come down to personal likes and dislikes. The only exception for me would be the Synthetic HW97 that I reviewed some time ago. It did not perform as well as the TX or the LGU. Add to the confusion, I just received the Air Arms Pro Sport that I'll be reviewing soon. I LOVE the Air Arms guns.. and I LOVE the LGU. I really like the LGV. I could take or leave the synthetic HW97. From what I'm told, the wood version of the HW97 is MUCH better. So I'm open to finding out how that shoots at some point down the road. What that ANY help? Cheers AGW

+Airgun Experts - AirgunWeb / AirgunWebTV -- You cannot give unbiased review if you are being compensated by vendors and manufacturers. Please include in your disclaimer that the manufacturers 'gift' you these rifles. Also that you are employed by pyramyd air and airgun depot. Too much fluff.
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 8 лет назад
I beg to differ. I can be objective. It's called having integrity. Also, I'm not, nor have I ever been, employed by PyramydAir or any other airgun vendor or manufacturer. PyramydAir is one of my many sponsors. I have total control of what I say and how I say it. With regards to objectivity. Here's how I manage it, should you or anyone else care to know. When I receive a product I evaluate it. If I believe it will review well and performs as the manufacturer claims, then I move forward with the review. If it does not, then I report the deficiencies to the manufacturer, they collect the product, and I move on to the next item on the list. In many ways I operate in a 3rd party quality control and testing capacity and help manufacturers locate and correct deficiencies in their products. This in turn means you, the consumer, benefits with better airguns on the store shelves. Cheers AGW

+joe roberts Hey Joe, this gun is very capable of hunting small game like birds, squirrels and rabbits. I am not a hunter but if that is your type of thing the LGU has the capabilities. This gun is commonly used in the UK along with the TX200 for small game hunting, both these guns will drop a rabbit at 50 yds with a clean head shot.
