I bought a 2021 era 1.0 PDP 9mm compact. Great 9mm gun for ccw, defense, security ops. My LE version has 3 dot steel night sights. I added a new 18rd 9mm factory PDP mag in 2023. I'm left handed & plan to get a new C&G kydex PDP holster. I own a decent Muddy River Tactical holster, leather(dark brown).

Thanks for putting out such a detailed video where you've actually put a good amount of rounds through this gun before offering an opinion. I'm a Phlster Floodlight user, as well, and it's a great concealment option. As for the light, check out the new X300 Turbo model. You'll lose some spill compared to the Ultra, but the Turbo has a ton more throw which makes punching through things like tinted windows a breeze. I still like the Ultra for home defense where I don't have much distance to cover, but in a duty application the Turbo is THE way to go.

I figured the snappiness of the PDP was an overblown issue. I carried a Px4 for a few months for both work and CCW, and found that while the soft recoil of the Px4 felt nice, it didn't really provide a tangible improvement to my shooting since my Glock 17 returned to target just as quickly as my Px4 did. So running along those lines of logic I figured the PDP had zero issues returning to target after each shot. The PDP was one of th guns I strongly considered when I was making the jump to pistol optics, but I couldn't break away from the Safariland system, I liked their holsters way too much for me to be willing to use a platform not supported by Safarilands level 3 RDS holsters. Thus I just opted to stick with a Glock 17 and get it milled out for an optic.

Nice video. I believe US Duty Gear makes level 3 holsters for 5-inch PDP now, and Comp Tac makes 5-inch PDP level 3 holsters which can only be found on the Walther website.

I completely agree with your assessment of the Walther PDP. I carry a full-size PDP 5 inch barrel in a holster and stuff that big bastard down the front of my pants and carry it every day. Yes, I’m that nut job that doesn’t mind carrying a full-size pistol stuffed in my pants! In fact, I prefer a full-size pistol. The only other issue I have heard about is that if you had to push the muzzle into someone, then you pull the trigger and it it doesn’t fire because it’s out of battery (which all striker fired pistols do) then you have a dead trigger and you have to re-rack it. But if you have light that sticks past the muzzle, then the light will prevent that from happening. If you don’t have an extended light and you have a dead trigger after that, just rack the slide off the guy eye socket and you’re good to go. But, I’m not a police officer. I’m just a licensed and trained citizen carrier. My rule of engagement is completely different. I don’t have to apprehend the suspect. My job is to break contact whenever possible. Plus, I would prefer to fire from retention instead of pushing the muzzle into someone. I love my Walther Full size PDP so much that I bought another one. One for iron sights and one for my optic. I love to train using both options.

Have you looked into US Duty Gear holsters for your Walther? They make a duty holster shockingly similar seeming to Safariland for your Walther.

I can modify a Safailand to work witha PDP for less...a lot less. Locks in securely, slides in and out like butter, modified a few extra spots just so that I got a better firing grip.

Another issue that people are just now starting to talk about is the roll pin located above the trigger walking out a bit after 100 rounds or so or if you are firing rapidly, this isn't a common issue and your pdp model may be just fine but some out there are off spec and there is not much you can do if you're the unlucky one, it's frustrating because you won't know until you have already purchased the gun and fired it, I was very disappointed when this happened to me, I have since gone back to Glock pistols as they don't have the best trigger, the gen 5 trigger is much better and glock has never failed me, all that really matters is that you can trust it to work every time, had my roll pin not had any issues I would still be running the pdp, tried blue and red loctite also, that did not fix the issue

Of Igs I need to brush up on my pistol maintenance My 5” PDP has over 5000 rounds and I’ve never take. The striker out I’ve clean it and oiled it a few times and it runs just fine It is snappier than most but not enough to complain

I wish they would have a slide/barrel combo that would extend to the end of the flashlight. The glock 35 did this. The draw has to clear the flashlight so an extra inch of barrel for free seems like a no brainer. Maybe just add a threaded barrel for extra length.

I have seen at least two reviews and both said that they like it very much. One even said that he shoot better with it than with his Glocks he shoot for years. But both also said its a bit more snappy so I dont think that they say this just to unsell it.
@freefieldtraining
@freefieldtraining 4 месяца назад
People feel like they have to find a downside to the gun in a review. In reality it is at least a generation ahead of glock in neqrly every performance meteic and so "it's snappier" is the best they can do. In reality it just feels different to shoot because it is an entirely different gun. Like people talking about turbo lag on a modern economy car. The turbo lag is nearly non existent but people have to find something to not look biased when comparing an early 2000's car to a modern one.
@Gieszkanne
@Gieszkanne 4 месяца назад
@@freefieldtraining I think all these reviews are pointless anyhow at least when its about how the gun shoots. Everybody have different hands so everybody has to feel and experience this for himself. For example many like the recoil of the HK P7 for me it has the most unpleasant nasty recoil of all 9mm I have ever shot.

Bruh I ring a zone steel at 75 yards with my p320 w/ Acro…and a Glock 17 with an Acro…and a p365 with a Holosun..it’s not inherently a Walther thing

He’s not a fan of either Glock or Sig I can do similar shots with similar guns you mentioned above. I can’t hate the PDP it shoots amazing but I’ve had some problems with mine specifically with certain ammunition which my shitty Glock never had and some weird slide problems I sent it in hopefully they can fix it customer service is great though. I definitely don’t trust it for now for CCW/ work.
@TheAxe4Ever
@TheAxe4Ever 6 месяцев назад
@bartllbee But here is the thing. What he is saying is not just an “opinion” thing. It’s a mechanical engineering thing. The barrel lug lock up design on a Walther will just inherently by nature and as a matter of mechanical engineering make it much more accurate than other designs. The barrel stays locked in line longer than other barrels. When the slide on my Walther is locked open, there is very nearly no barrel tilt or movement unlike my Glocks or M&P’s. It’s great you can get accuracy like that with your Sig. If you’re that good of a shot with a Sig, imagine what you could do with a Walther! People that have shot for a long time are usually impressed with the groups I get at 25 yards and that I can consistently steel at 50 yards or more with my Glock 17. Then I shoot my Walther and those 50 yard “hits” turn into 50 yard “groups”. The Walther’s are just engineered for greater accuracy. It’s not saying Glock, Sig or any other pistol is bad at all. It’s just a fact of mechanics.

What's different about this striker that you think it'll need to be cleaned more frequently? I have around 6K rounds through mine with no issues thus far, never cleaned the striker. Not saying you're wrong, just curious what brought you to that conclusion.
@freefieldtraining
@freefieldtraining 3 месяца назад
There is more room around the striker channel to allow debris in. If you keep it completely dry, as you should, it shouldn't be a problem. However, if it gets wet for any reason powder residue and brass flakes like to build up inide and could cause tolerance issues between the striker and the inside face of the breach resulting in light strikes. Given how easy it is to pull out there is no reason not to periodically brush it off and make sure there is no buildup. It is also in the manual.

Im currently in the market for a new full size. Im between the pdp 5" or sd pro 5.1". Would there be any reason to get the sd pro with the DPT upgraded trigger, threaded barrel, & magwell after your use? Would a comp come in handy for a range toy/ HD weapon? (No supressors going on it) ive shot the 5" as a rental and loved it. Never held/ tested the sd pro. If i went with the normal pdp I could always upgrade the trigger if needed (the main reason for me to get the sd pro). But with the money i save on the normal pdp i could get a better dot/ faster. Any thoughts help thanks!
@freefieldtraining
@freefieldtraining 5 месяцев назад
The trigger on the pro might end up being a little too nice for your purposes honestly. It's great but depending on what your threshold for "too light" it might make you uncomfortable.

I have a Gen 1 that was purchased within 6 months of release, and it works flawlessly. As for the Steiner, I'm not completely surprised, I'm sticking with Holosun as my first Holosun pistol mounted dot is going on 2 years without any issues. As for the recoil, the gun kinda rocks in the hand. My P365 is low so it just dumps the impulse into my hand, and the muzzle doesn't really want to rise. PS. Cleaning my PDP after 1000rds is what made the un feel like ass. I lubricated the safety plunger, and then started shooting it, and it smoothed out again. I'm not sure why, but she likes being dirty, and I know Hwansik Kim essentially doesn't clean his gun, he just lubes it, and it keeps running (he has about 160k through it). So when it comes to cleaning, I will honestly say that you can leave cleaning alone, and just focus on shooting. Even with a 15lb RSA the gun just refuses to choke.
