WandaVision Angry TV Review - Ep1 & Ep2 

One thing that stood out to me was that despite episode 2 revolving around children and showing various kid's belongings (the red helicopter toy, a bicycle parked in front of Dottie's house, the existence of an elementary school) there are ZERO kids that have shown up on screen, even as background characters.

Creepiest part is they say "For the children!" No child in the audience.

That scene where Mrs Hart was laughing saying 'stop it' while her husband choked is the exact kind of creepy tension I wanted from this show.

It's not supposed to be funny. They are trapped in the world. That's why the laugh tracks are off. You can tell they are faking it. Like on purpose.

“That was my grandmas piano” line was the funniest part for me .

I agree completely with Alex, it’s hard to say without context how good this will be. It’s unfair to be harsh on it for being an old sitcom when it’s CLEAR there’s something else going on, that it’s not real. I mean geez, there’s like 8 episodes or something. Give them time to build up the arching plot.

"Drunk" Vision was hilarious. Gum isn't actually a weakness of vision, it's comical for the framework and homage to the classics but keep in mind, this is all a construct of Wanda. We know what happened to Vision.

A bold new take for the MCU, whoever greenlit the directors having this much creative control is a genius. I’m intrigued, I laughed at how cheesy it was, and I loved the callbacks. Phase 4 needs to make every different movie/show feel like it’s own little comic book, and this show is the perfect start.

The hints that Wanda is controlling that world are numerous. Even the characters start to act weird when she's stressed or under pressure, or when she remembers of something that she's trying to hide from herself.

anybody else noticed how Geraldine hesitated for a second, as if she had to think of what her name is, before introducing herself to Wanda?

Hands down Paul Bettany as Vision has great comedic timing. Loved him in this.

It seems like the sitcom plots themselves are made in a way to manipulate Wanda. The first episode had the nosy neighbor and Vision's boss asking them about their marriage, and at the end, Wanda creates wedding rings. The second episode was about a talent show fundraising "for the children," and at the end, Wanda becomes pregnant. Maybe there's some kind of force that's "writing" the sitcom to get Wanda to use her powers towards a goal.

Wanda grew up in a foreign country. Her images of America would have been based on exported pop culture...i.e. old TV reruns, so that's what her subconscious would fall back on as the basis for this world. Its also why the commercials are always Stark and Hydra...major traumatic events in her life.

It feel like you missed quite a lot. The toaster ad is a stark bomb that tick like in iron man 1. The watch have an hydra logo on it and it’s a strucker watch, like baron von strucker. Agness is most likely AGatha harkNESS, see the hint there ? The beekeeper is most likely someone from sword wearing as hazmat suit, but seen through her distorted reality. I think that in each episode the fake reality will distord more and more until it fell apart.

In my opinion, I think this is exactly what I wanted with this show, there were parts where I was genuinely spooked, like the part with the wife saying “stop it” and the whole glass cup and colored blood with the “for the children” bit, I just genuinely thought this was pretty cool

Surprised the AJ team didn't connect with any of this! I mean all of us knew what to expect from the trailers lol, I would've assumed? Every episode the vail lifts more and more, revealing something that's inevitably going to shatter Wanda's mental state even more..

taking the 50s angle too literally...its more like watching the twilight zone, where the entire setting is supposed to be disturbing

I feel these episodes are going to have a lot more to them when you come back to them after the series is done.

What I took from these episodes was Wanda in that magic outfit got me feeling different.

Boy y’all are impatient. 2 episodes in and y’all are ready asking for it to move on. Like let shit set up. It’s a 6 hr story. Let it get there. This is isn’t the Mandolorian. It’s not gonna have instant action like that or how Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be. Y’all being too harsh on it way too soon.

Don't know if you realised, but the jokes aren't supposed to be funny, everything is a tye in into Wanda's trauma, mind and the illusion that quite obviously is luring Wanda into a trap of sorts, this is obviously a slow burning show with mystery and cool hidden parts that require a good rewatch to find them. Hell! Even the walls literally show off the fortress where she and her brother were experimented on. It's meant to be unnerving, it's literally meant to be strange and bizzare because it's the scarlet witch and her insane reality and mind bending powers. Like vision isn't even alive, he only exists in Wanda's world, he was created by her.

I'm guessing this is either a pocket dimension she created around herself, or something that was done to her to mitigate her powers while she's in a broken mental state.

The date was August 23 and that was the day that vision died in infinity war

Something I noticed: when Vision was phasing through stuff in the beginning of episode 1, it did this cute little sparkle and chime. However, then he actually was saving his boss, the effect looked a lot more modern. Idk if it’s anything but I thought that was interesting

I love the mystery vibe from this and the fact the show itself is evolving throughout the 50s,60s,70s,80s,90s,and eventually the 2000s and no show has ever done that and that’s really cool

Marvel came back strong in my opinion. Vision is freaking hilarious when he has gum in his gear

Joe just wants action, explosions and the mystery to all happen within the first 10 mins.

I feel like y’all focused way too much on the 50s stuff. It has an air of creepiness the entire time because you know it’s fake and people don’t understand what they are doing or saying in certain moments. I loved it.

There is some seriously nefarious shit going on, the first couple episodes are establishing this sense of unease

The advertisements being connected to her trauma was an interesting thing

I'm watching this trying to figure out what's going on catching the small clues. I'm actually intrigued with the slow burn trying to understand the little breaks in the simulation..is it someone trying to break into her mind, is it her building a world from old TV shows she rememebers to keep vision alive in some way? I can wait to find out I understand how people are conditioned these days that they want something fast paced but I'm cool with it.

This is the type of show that needs this world building and tension ramp up. Without these episodes the pay offs later won't be impactful.

Zoomers ITT: "I hate the laugh track, I wished they left that out" smh.

These first two episodes, in terms of writing, are a masterclass of classic sitcoms. If you think of this series as a split up movie, we just got past the introduction, patience is a virtue. There's 7 more episodes. The word that comes to mind when I think of these two episodes is "charm".

It's super different. You can't bitch when movies/shows use cliches when something new tries something different. I can't believe Im describing marvel as different but if you don't day this a step in the right direction you're crazy

I have a good feeling about this series. It’s very risky to go for this style, something people might be put off by to slowly build up to a sinister underlying plot. As opposed to going for a predictable safe Wanda and vision go fight bad guys.

I never understand why people aren't patient with shows like this, especially when it's with a property you can trust

I love the feel of this. It’s like a sitcom meets a twilight zone episode.

The man and woman from the "commercials" seem to be a bigger part of it of the story. First there was a stark brand toaster and then the watch with the hydra logo in the next episode, this series is great so far slow start to begin with but it's building to something big and has heaps of little details you could miss if your not paying attention and that's why this show isn't for everyone...

Remember Dottie makes sure the remind the group that "the devil's in the details." That's when Agnes jokes that's not the only place the devil can be found. Mephisto could be the big bad.

this just goes back to how Jordan Peele says that there is a fine line between comedy and horror. I think if you watch without the rose glasses of an old sitcom it does give very creepy horror esqe moments

It's different and I prefer this to another "Arrow"-series, for sure. This is incredibly well made and written.

This show is chock-full of references to the comic books and if you don't get them then it probably would be less enjoyable to you. The beekeeper, for instance, is probably a reference to A.I.M. as they call themselves the beekeepers. Personally I wish the episodes had been longer and had more substance to them but they did manage to create the impression of hidden horror that they were going for.

It's only 2 episodes in. They're not going to have something intense happen that early.

This show is bloody brilliant. I laughed my ass off. Paul Bettany should do more comedy. I don’t get how many haters there are for only 2 episodes. Remember it’s more of a TV show than an MCU movie and the whole TV Americana sitcom motif will go away in episode 6-7ish and be more of an MCU movie from there. This was a fantastic start. You have to focus on the dialogue, lots of lore from the comics that will play into the upcoming episodes. It’s not slow at all. It’s meant to be different styles and the marketing was perfect. It’s a setup for something that will blow our minds like Twilight zone/LOST/Nolan movies.

Some people have no patience. They want everything at once. They want things to hit the ground running. As soon as the show finishes, everyone will like it.

This is all in Wanda’s head, a ‘vision’, if you will.

This feels like a show that was made to be binged all at once

I’m pretty sure Wanda flips out because of Vision's death and creates a world where they can be together. So that means Vision is probably a figment of her imagination/powers. And Sword is probably trying to have her snap out of her dream state?

I really really like it, and the joke of wanda saying: my husband with his undestructuble head, and then you remember that Thanos rip apart half of his head in infinity war :0

Interesting theory: what if the voice is Charles Xavier and we end up with the introduction of the X-Men? Like Shaw is trying to control Wanda by giving her the life she dreams of post-snap and Xavier is trying to reach her?

I wish the whole season would’ve just came out all together

It's a slow burn but I get what they're doing. I also grew up watching these shows in reruns. So it's got that familiar comfort. I love the homage to these sitcoms, wrapped up in an underlying mystery that will unfold later.

I don't think Joe is understanding the concept of the show but I understand what he and the others are saying. After a while I was like: "OK. So...when are we gonna see something exciting?"

I have a theory: Maybe someone was able to literally use her own powers against her and put her in an illusionary world where she has control over what's happening since it is her powers after all and that 1 scene where we see someone with sound equipment is the guy that did this to her that's trying to make sure she doesn't come out of her trance. Reason why that's my theory is because we saw something similar in Age of Ultron when she basically made them sort of live through their worst nightmares.

Marvel has succeeded in all areas with the infinity saga now they are getting experimental and weird and I'm here for it. This show is awesome

This is exactly what I wanted! A slow burning show that goes all the way with the old sit-com theme while having little creepy moments there and there hinting at the things to come! They captured perfectly the silly feel of those 50-60s shows! Should they speed thing up? Fuck no! To hell with the short-attention span viewers that need everything to go at a fast pace.

As I expected Joe misses the mark hard when the plot of the film or series isn't being shoved into his eyeballs. Each episode seems to be reflecting and moving forward in a decade of history; it's not just "the 50s", by episode 2 it's much more resemblance of 60's TV and the transition into color at the end of the episode represents a shift to a "70s" classic. This stuff obviously ties in with an overarching plot which is continually becoming more prevalent.

I'm trying to spot the continuous set changes each episode: their house gets a 2nd story in ep. 2; their couch changes; that manhole the beekeeper comes up out of wasn't there in a previous scene; etc.

It has a such a good blend of modern and classic sitcom elements. The references are well implemented for harden Marvel fans too.

Guys, the beauty is in the small details. Just enjoy it. You'll get your action at the end.

The best part of WandaVision for me was the Superman cameo @ 6:14.

sometimes i have to remember that the AJ team are not avid comic book readers, so they cant tell when something crazy is being built up right in front of them

The bee keeper made immediate sense to me when you notice the Sword logo on his back. He's in full hazmat gear breaking in to the delusion but upon entering the delusion he morphed into something at would 'Fit' as best as possible. Also the sounds when the tree was banging the window were clearly gunfire & explosions until the opened the window. Also be very careful when stating things like "The kids are Wiccan and Speed" not because your wrong but because the entire story of Wanda's children is so incredibly convoluted it's insane.

did you guys notice how the camerawork changes when the "strange things" happen? usually wide not moving shots, then close up and slowly paning in

Gotta admit Joe this isn't a great review. I really feel like we are watching two different shows. I thought this was masterfully done. Im so excited to see what comes next.

The radio asking her "Wanda! Who is doing this to you?" and less than a minute later in the Strücker Commercials there is HYDRA!!!

I'm totally hooked. There's clearly so much going on that we're not aware of yet, and I'm super excited to see how this all pays out.

I loved it! I wont say much to avoid spoilers but it simply works. Its funny, unique, intriguing and I best of all I CANT WAIT to see where they go next! I can only think about the posibilities here in this "world" they are in for the moment. Its so nice to see the couple you WISH you got to see more of together and guess what - - here ya go! I am liking it or rather I find myself captivated by it, Elizabeth Olsen is doing a terrific job as an actress here. I would have your same concerns but they just melt away from the acting alone, which makes me wildly optimistic about the show. I just can't imagine it failing to deliver. Lastly: I agree, with this pace it should have been released with more episodes.

I just don't get it. Marvel told us for *OVER* a *YEAR* that the show will basically be Wanda and Vision stuck in various sitcoms of different eras, and yet when it launches some ppl are like "what's up with all this Wanda and Vision being stuck in a old sitcom shit?" smh

Really surprised you’re so down on this. Thought it was absolutely terrific. Brave, original and internally creepy. I find it hard to believe anyone would prefer a more typical superhero show. We have dozens and dozens of those. Yawn.

When the bee keeper turned around, it looked exactly like L4D2 intro when the CEDA zombie (one in contamination suit) turns around 😆

So the non stop Laugh track, audience in the backgroud was a bit much for you Joe? a little too loud, a little too often? Glad you never tried to incorporate something like that into AJS News cause fuck I bet that would be annoying...Oh wait you love your little fuckin soundboard though don't you hahaha

These were almost perfect. Genuinely enjoyable sitcom episodes, they really committed to that style which I loved. Sweet and really funny and the acting was great all around, everyone is having so much fun. The look of the show is spot on from the sets to the cinematography, there were so many nods to that era of TV. Really enjoyed the writing here. Smart and clever, setting up fun sit on hijinks with just enough strange and creepy moments to set up the bigger mystery at play. There are a lot of moments to dig into and start speculating about. From the talk about the devil, the adverts referencing the Stark bomb and Baron Von Strucker, the moments were the townspeople "break character." All in all I was massively impressed and can't really think of anything I didn't like here. An 8/9 for me.

I think the whole fake sitcom thing is incredibly dumb. Especially considering we all know it's an illusion.

I want Quicksilver to come back as a part of Wanda’s creations to add on to her trauma. Everyone seems to forget she didn’t just loose Vision, she also lost her twin brother whom she was really close with

Vision wasn’t drunk, his inside were malfunctioning due to actually eating food and getting it stuck
