Kitami is a fucking philosopher. Saying shit like "On the Wangan, there are no winners, it all depends on how much you are willing to risk and how far you're willing to push the pedal" and "It doesn't matter if it's a 100bhp family car or a 800bhp track monster, all of them are murder weapons. If you understand that, you won't die"
he's right. I believe he is also the devil incarnate. his "wisdom", his push/drive, his asking/motivating others to do what he wants, his controlling the racing when he asks Reina to hold back and let the boys go at it, his choosing to/not to tune someone's car, and the methods he uses to tune to give as much as the person asks for then says it's not on me if you die. All of the cars are sins/temptations that bring both joy and sadness/death. Someone in this is "Constantine", but I haven't figured out who....the epic battle of good vs evil, man vs the devil, etc....
As someone who recently bought a car that can be put to work like this IRL, it’s amusing to see people get annoyed by the characters leaving suddenly. The in and out nature of these characters is honestly how interstate racing is in real life. You might catch someone for a few days, maybe a month, but both intervals are only if you’re lucky. Sometimes you just see someone, chase after them, and regardless of what happens you’ll never see them again. They all have their own stories to tell, maybe you’ll be lucky to know who they are if you stop and crack open a soda after racing for a bit. But the reality is.. Hundres of millions of people travel on roads across the globe. Not everyone will return to the same place at the same time. I’d always get my window of opportunity with someone on the road, and that’s it. Only small towns have the privilege of knowing your opponent, but even then it pales to the bigger stages in these cities.
I can agree with this from experience, but the main difference is that you hardly get invested in who that other person is in real life highway races. You might do a pull or duck in and out of traffic for a mile but af the end you’ll just tell your friends “I ran into this cool mustang earlier”. That’s not at all what this show is doing, otherwise we wouldn’t even know who half the characters in this anime are. The writers are trying to get us invested a little bit into each character along the way, but there’s not enough introduction or conclusion given for anyone to really care- it’s a weird middle ground between reality and fiction that just feels like bad writing.
@@wi1dcard192 I know it's an old comment but... the show's based on Mid Night and two real cars (the ABR Hosoki S130Z and the Yoshida Specials 930 Turbo), so I think they would've known each other in real life. Wangan racing was a lot different from other kinds of racing (especially any racing outside Japan) because they didn't have to worry about police
Akagi's White Comet that might be the case but I personally don’t think that’s the case Cause the AE86 was tuned to 150hp Where as it’s said in one of the first episodes the tuner of hell was introduced in Wangan Midnight it was stated that he only made dangerous cars I.E. 600BHP+ cars
Akagi's White Comet that is indeed correct but all of Kitami Jun’s Machines were said to be uncontrollable where as anyone can control a 150hp car regardless of what it is tuned for And it is said in the second season of initial d that Bunta tuned the car himself
Thank you for posting these shows. I have only discovered "Anime" in the last couple of years and was a Mechanic before I became disabled which is the main reason I discovered Anime. This show is great and I had to thank you for taking the time to post it and share it with me.
Mark Tongol obviously he could because 1) he knows the pass, 2) he has a car better tuned for drifting in mountain passes, and 3) the insane amount of horsepower Akio has would actually make it harder to maintain a stable hair pin drift.
So the anime is set in the early 90's, Keiji's dad died 15 years ago which would be around the late 60's to mid 70's.. but the cars in the flashbacks look nothing like the cars from those periods... am I the only one bothered by this?
I believe that everyone else has noticed this but that porsche isn't suited for driving in japan because it's a left hand drive. in countries like japan you drive a car with a right hand drive for example look at the supra
Anyone else think the supra guy deserved to win that race? he seems more skilled than Akio and he can even drift. Akio just had a faster car which wasn't even his own.
Reina's gtr was white from the very beginning. Only when it got tuned by Yamamoto, it turned to dark grey colour. But a few episodes later it turned to white again. Continuity kinda lost on the car models I suppose. 😂
Manga: Haven't read either; can't decide Anime: Initial D. Wangan anime has a lot of missing stories Game: Wangan. It has multiplayer, can tune your car up to 835 horsepower, can change the look of car, story is more intense than the anime. Initial D is very boring and bland.
I like how everyone talks shit about akio being a shitty driver for crashing the z so many times but yet he is driving blackbird and just beat a Supra like it was nothing which makes sense because the devil z is an older car with no electronic assist and is as light as a feather with over 600hp of course he would crash in it🤣
@@tgipro6387 yeah, meaning that seat time in the devil Z really teaches him a lot as a driver, feeling and working with the car to learn it's reaction and then harness it when he understands it's characteristics
Yeah but can they produce 700 horsepower on a 3.6 liter turbo flat six? an Aventador need 6.5 liter v12 to produce 690 horsepower. The blackbird can reach top speed of 350km/h and can last for 15 minutes. In contrast, the Bugatti Veyron can maintain its top speed of +400km/h for 12 minutes. Wangan Midnight was based on the 1980s. Can you believe that in 1980s there was a car that was more powerful and more efficient than supercars today?
Mild gargle Car makers aren't pushing the engine to it's limit because it ruins the reliability, and these tuner cars need a complete rebuild frequently because the engine can't take the pressure for very long. By the way this series is very unrealistic, you shouldn't compare it to reality.
Exactly what I thought. In previous episodes, the other white R32 uses low spoiler like Reina's use in this episode and Reina's spoiler were stock in the previous episode. But how come it reversed right now, well...
Wait! Reina's R in the last episode has a Spoiler then the other one have the Tiny one THEN why in this Episode Reina have the SMAAL SPOILER???? Whats that Bruh
@@drifter3247 I thought It was DATSUN FAIRLADY Z S30Z as the japanese model for that market and NISSAN FAIRLADY as american model for the american market
