Hello, my dear viewers and subscribers !
This is my first and complete review of the WANPTEK DPS 3010U universal laboratory DC power supply. Having a small home laboratory - a workshop, and solving various problems, including RC hardware, and control equipment, and many others related to RC models and not only to them, of course, equipped it with various power supplies. And today we will just talk about such a versatile, reliable, powerful and lightweight power source.
I really liked the device, despite some minor flaws, you can ignore them.
Did you like it?
Thank you for watching, I wish you a very nice day !

I love the Revox B-77 tape recorder in the background. I owned 2 of these machines in the past. They were so beautifully designed and manufactured.

Thank you for your nice comment ! Still has this one, I like it very much, it was very well adjusted, heads were aligned and perfectly lapped to the “zero” condition. Still is one of the best tape machines I’ve ever heard, using it as a “master tape” engine. Unfortunate y, nowadays I’m too much overloaded by my current job tasks, so practically haven’t no time to make videos about my engines, as well, as with my taperecorders , like Pioneer 707, Tanderberg and Nakamichi. Hoping, this time will arrive soon. Thank you and have a nice day !

Thank you for review! I have older model dps it has no usbc and i thought this is the same but no! Old one has potentiomenters this one is digital. Now considering getting new model as well. Old seems reliable and cooling is good only spins fan when needed and can run on full power no problems. New model has much smaller heatsink as i see.

Thank you very much for your comment ! Definitely, absolutely agree with you, I've two DPS 3010U and both are in duty every day over six months, changing the accu batteries, powering some low voltage devices, and performs very well. The only negative point - and you're totally right - cooling fan is loud, but we should agree, that loud cooling fun isn't a big price for the great DC power supply performance. Thank you and have a nice day !

Hi, what's the purpose of the ground terminal in the front? I tought it was for getting positive and negative voltages using the other two terminals, but when I try it with mine the thing just doesn't work. Thanks!
@crazyengines88
@crazyengines88 2 месяца назад
Thank you, what a great question ! Basically, in your question there is a part of an answer - the ground terminal internally connected to the metal case and chassis. If you will connect the ground terminal of your power supply (or any other electrical equipment), this will save a life. in case of a short circuit of the power wires to the device case. Short current in such cases will be directed to the ground. Thank you for your question again, and have a nice day !

Because we all put lab bench power supplies in our sleeping room😅😂

Hi, thanks for the nice comment ! 😀 You can't believe, but I know personally at least, two people, who was using bench power supplies to power their SW receivers / FM radios. The only difference was that both have old fashioned style power supplies, with iron core transformers, so, less noisy devices. Thank you and have a nice day !

nice review. is it heating up much on max power output for longer period?
@crazyengines88

Thank you for your question ! I should say, that practically not, using it for a long period of time, only becomes noisy, but not so hot. Thank you !

I'm sorry, I do not understand about the constant current bit. How does the power supply know when to switch to constant voltage and constant current?
@crazyengines88
@crazyengines88 4 месяца назад
Hi and thank you for your nice question ! I'll try to explain this quite simple. In fact, in CC (constant current mode), device will supply constant, exactly as was adjusted by CC regulator knob. For example, you set 1 ampere current on 10 ohms load, that means, that device will keep on output terminals 10 volts. If you will change your load from 10 ohms to 5 ohms (for example), device will adjust output voltage exactly to the point, where output current will be again 1 ampere (voltage will changed to 5 volts), so the current will be the same, 1 ampere. And, for example, you will change the load to 20 ohms, device will change output voltage to 20 volts, to keep 1 ampere stable current. So, basically, device just keep the Ohms law. B.t.w., this CC option really can protect your load ( especially, when you're make some experiments), and to limit your current to the safe levels on the first power on. Thank you very much for your question, it was really interesting to write an answer.

does the cooling fan always on or only when it gets warm?
@crazyengines88
@crazyengines88 9 месяцев назад
Hi and thank you for your question ! Cooling fan is switching only, when your load consumes sufficient amount of power, of if you powering something low voltage but high current load, for example, 2 - 3 volts load with 5 Amperes of current. This means, that active part of this voltage supply is under bigger load ( 35 volts - 3 volts = 32 volts voltage drop on active regulator elements with a current of 3 amperes, for example, so power on active element should be approx. 86 watts), so to avoid overheating, microcontroller is switching cooling fan for a few minutes. Definitely, it's a very nice power supply, I'm currently using two such devices. Thank you and have a nice day !

Hi did you check Korad KA3005P ?
@crazyengines88
@crazyengines88 11 месяцев назад
Good afternoon, thanks for your question. I have not tested this power supply, but judging by its external and internal appearance, it is very similar to the UNI-T UTP3315T, which I compared with Wanptek DPS 3010U. This Korad KA3005P also have an iron core transformer, with a PWM voltage and current stabilization circuit. Apparently, I think that in terms of characteristics they are very similar, up to 30 volts, with a load current of up to 5 amperes. The ripple level of the output voltage is also, I think, very similar to the UNI-T UTP3315T. As far as I know, judging by the photos of the internal view, the build quality is good, but I can’t tell you more, because I didn’t hold it in my hands and didn’t test it. Thank you.

Thank you very much for your comment ! Yes, you’re totally right , under the load this power supply shows some increased voltage drop, but it’s still negligible for the most power supply applications. In experimental electronics usually, some kind of surge protection is recommended, a good quality electrolytic capacitor should eliminate the most voltage surge.

Hi, and thank you for your message. It's interesting to work on testing your products, especially regulated power supplies. I'm owning two WANPTEK DPS 3010U , using both in my laboratory / workshop, and satisfied by their work. I also send a message by email to your address at your RU-vid channel, so let's be in a contact. Thank you and have a nice day!
