I've been trying to serve for a while but was almost giving up because videos weren't explained well enough, or were too simplistic for beginners who need to build from the ground up. This was fantastic

My problem is I feel tennis elbow when I do pronation. Anatomically that's the muscle on the elbow get extended when wrist pronated. Any tips to avoid tennis elbow? Or am I putting too much stress on the muscle?

Same here. I had to shut down playing for a good 3-4 weeks and was/am afraid to go back to trying it. Any corrections to what I may be doing wrong is greatly appreciated

Make sure your grip is more angled with the index finger crawling up the grip a bit. If you make more of a fist with your grip it will cause discomfort
@OrangeCaps

@@andrewsickles8498 thanks much. I should try to crawl up the index finger a little more.

I had to stop playing, 4 weeks now, because pronating on the serve caused medial (inside) elbow tendinitis aka golfers elbow. I played collegiate tennis 30 years ago (4.5/5.0) stopped playing 20 years ago and picked it back up 4 months ago. I started out really easy, playing mostly mini tennis for the first month, got my timing back, then started subbing on multiple 3.0/3.5 mixed doubles leagues, so wasn’t hitting or serving hard but had to stop last month because nothing was working to ease the pain even with simple movements like washing my hands and face. I was given a steroid shot and anti-inflammatory meds a few days ago and the pain has subsided for the normal movements. And even though I’ve been really wanted to try to hit again, I’m tentative because I don’t want to re-injure it. I plan to go through these steps when I think I’m ready to try serving again but would like feedback from others that may have gone through something similar and made it through the other side without re-injuring their elbow. 🙏
@OrangeCaps
@OrangeCaps 2 года назад
@@kevingolden4920 I feel your pain. Here's what I did last 3 weeks. And I'm feeling a lot better on my tennis elbow. 1. Changed serve grip to cheating continental (less pronation) 2. Crawl up index finger a little more for more flex on wrist when serve 3. Switched poly string to multi filament string (NXT soft) 4. Bought a shock absorbing gel dampener 5. Supplement Turmeric. Applied topical gel and cream (volaren 1% and arnicare) twice daily on elbow. 6. Push ups. Theraband exercise. Stress ball to strengthen sounding muscles. Your pain could be from one source but for longevity it worth to approach multidimensional to fix the root cause of the pain not to mention proper techniques. Hope this helps.

Hii Coach would you help reply to this I noticed continental grip for volleying is different from serve okay am alittle short like Diego Schwartzman & I like serving with power like Isner but when I put my grip on index & palm on bevel 2 it like opens the racquet up but when I put my index knuckle on bevel 2 and my palm on bevel 1 it actually closes in the racquet & I can land balls inside the service line is that a thing or just your opinion like I said prefer using flat serves to kick serves

If you want the ball to go in you hit with spin. Think about it if you hit with top spin on the forehand and backhand ground strokes why wouldn’t you hit with spin on your serve. Imparting spin requires that the racquet head have a certain angle and direction when swinging and striking the ball.So on the serve the continental grip allows you to accomplish all that is required to impart spin. If you throw a football the grip and motion of you hand and are are essential to getting a good spiral spin. When you throw a curve ball or breaking pitch in baseball you need to grip the ball properly and follow a proper throwing motion to make the ball curve or break. In my experience coaching I have found that certain previous athletic experience from other sports where throwing is essential can be useful. I pitched and played quarterback in High School so I had an understanding of spin and strategy ( moving the ball around to fool the receiver) ( placement where they are uncomfortable) etc.
