One way I like to work on getting better is purposefully picking an army that isn’t known to be good (imperial fist Anvil siege force for example) and trying to forge a winning army/strategy. There’s close to 0 guides on how to play the army. Close to 0 battle reports. Close to 0 BCP lists to reference. It’s all up to you. Every win you get is from something you created. You thought up. You REALLY see what can work and what doesn’t. All the choices made are yours.

That is some next level thinking right there. 40K on hard mode!

@@epicflail40ktactics well it’s not meant to be a flex or anything, but when you need to actually make your own choices, and every change you make is based on experience and you actually have to reason your changes, you learn a lot about how the game works. It’s much different than going on BCP, finding a 5-0 GT list and copy pasting it into your list building app and then losing your first game and rinse and repeat.

Great Spirit right there! I have a similar relationship with the 1st Company Task Force and my Salamanders. Firestorm Assault Force would be the Go-To Build, but the 1st Company is what I end up playing a lot, since it is more challenging and small mistakes lead to big losses and great learning experiences. For me this is more fun and the pain included really helps me learn the game in general better. Thanks for the Video and also thanks for the comment.

I dont really care if I win or lose, I like to play meme lists. For me its about laughing and rolling a lot of dice. Since 10th edition its say I have about a 30% win rate lol... If i needed to win I would stop playing.

Really needed this video.. I'm currently in a massive funk with 40k where I have realized I attach a lot of my self worth to winning and being seen as a good player so when I lose it cuts really deep. Absolutely fantastic advice and video. Thanks for this, you've got a new subscriber.

Two biggest things for me to remember about this hobby is 1. Have fun with it. Its supposed to be your rag tag group of plastic people waging small unit (pun intended) against your buddies small plastic people rag tag group. 2. Its little plastic men. Any one that places their self worth in how well they do it really needs a reality check. I was in the Marines, been in fire fights, dug up ieds. This isnt real life warfare. Yall need to quit acting like your actually generals.

Agree. But It's like boiling a frog though. If you put the toad in hot water it leaps out cos it's hot. If you slowly turn the heat up it doesn't realise the danger it's in until it's too late! The psychology of it can be addicting and chasing wins can creep in without you realising and then it becomes unfun. It's not always that we intend to think like that but it can happen and then we find ourselves in a rut all of a sudden. Then it's important to take a step back and recalibrate. As you say, and as i mention in the vid: it's just a game and it's important to be actually enjoying it and having fun after all.

"Winning isn't everything", I agree! for my play group *FUN* is everything, we run screaming from the Meta until we reach fun. I have played competitive and I felt GW leaning over my shoulder saying "this faction will win and this faction will loose" that isn't competitive to me, since we have got away from the Meta it has become anyone's game, a much more level playing field.

I like running narrative games, I make up back stories for my sgts. I like doing things my opponent wouldn't expect like meme lists, role playing like a brand new guardsman on the front lines or as the platoon commander driving his troops forward. Overall have fun and use your imagination. Some are good for fighting, some for dying you need both I think.

Great video.. love the growth mindset , I am starting to use chess clocks and finding them great to focus mind, but also be respectful for time left so when playing against hoard armies they don’t take all the time 😅, interestingly epic flail just did a video saying on most part chess clocks are bad 😂

Thank you! Haha yeah i just watched it now! I think they were spot on the way the game plays presents challenges to using clocks at events. Also for casual games there is way less need for them.

Very helpful part of the video @ the 5 minute mark! Mastering these small tactics will stack leading to solid growth. It also extends to the units datasheets regarding abilities and profiles, learning these incrementally so they they are not forgotten during games. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve played almost 20 battles in 10th so far, 100% win record! With Death Guard and Genestealers. A few were very close, one was a single VP! But will play some of the toughest opponents at my club soon 😅

Thanks! Yeah it's not ideal if you are not finding enjoyment in the game. I have certainly been there and for what it's worth i have found a pallet cleanser to be helpful. Try a game that is different in some way to how u normally play. Perhaps a narrative spin or fun objective you throw in to mix things up a bit

The reason you won't win isn't because you focus or not on winning.... its because you play flavorful lists and try to "have fun" to justify making subpar plays. this is a strategy game, see what the top players are doing, try to understand why they are doing it and makes sure to set aside your pride to LEARN from those WHO DO WIN CONSISTENTLY but hey, in every competitive strategy games, you have a large portion of the general player population who are bad at it, refuse to improve and cry everytime someone around them bring something they consider "meta" these are just sore losers, they don't matter.
@DaaClaptain
@DaaClaptain 2 месяца назад
I never got this. They are little plastic men. If yall really are the grand generals you think you are why dont you go join one of the multiple conflicts around the world. Why dont you come up with your own strategies instead of copying what the "best players are doing". Im sorry you couldnt win at anything else. Why ruin a hobby to make yourself feel better. Go make knitting competitive and ruin that instead. People like this are the ones you see raging at the store and flipping tables. Why do yall aspire to be that.
@epicflail40ktactics
@epicflail40ktactics 2 месяца назад
Yeah i suppose that if someone was resistant to improving then they wouldn't improve. Can't argue with that but it's strange to suggest a section of the player base doesn't matter. I do agree that emulating what successful players do and understanding why they do things can be useful though.
