A lot of people have told me that the terrain used at Goonhammer open was really great. Think was a hybrid of GW style with a lot of cover but good movement options for bigger units. As a Tyranid player it would be nice to be able to hide the Winged Hive Tyrant!

Nice to see whats out there. Ive started competitive 40k in germany with 10th Editon. WTC is pretty much the go-to standard here. Having played 12 Tournaments in the Edition there was only WTC.

Thanks! Yes I have heard WTC is more the standard in Europe, for sure. Do you tend to see a focus on combat armies in your local meta as a result?

been waiting for this episode. i tend to set up tables which are designed to look good and somewhat ressemble real battlefield, however most people want to play on wtc and wtc only, using the pieces of terrain which are just for functionality and not the looks whatsoever. Scenic terrain is my way to go and for my friends group (we even got a discord server running in order to gather a group of people tired with wtc tables everywhere). 40k is "just a game" for me and not some sort of olympic competition :D Also im curious about one thing. all of those terrain layouts are entirely symetrical, do you think that makes the attacker/defender rolloff kinda irrelevant? I usually set up a table in a way that one side is slightly better so the winner has a choice, he either takes the side he wants but deploys his unit first or gives that to his opponent but forces him to make the first drop.

That's fair. It is all part of the hobby and nothing beats a cool looking scenic board to fight over! I have tried to make all the boards at my events unique looking even when using the same set, creating themes that match the mats they go on. I know not all attendees care about that sort of thing but it's worth it when i get nice feedback on how the tables look! I'm not the best painter but it's nice to have terrain that looks the part. The symmetry thing not really. At least i have never really considered that it does to be honest. Other factors influence that decision more imo. Such as how armies interact with each other, mission, and forward deploying units. (If you both have infiltrators, for example, you want to set them down first to get first dibs of no mans land and push the enemy ones back)

@@incursiontactics They look so incredibly false and contrived...very unnatural looking. Every other game system ive seen since 86 looks nothing like a 40k table. It the failure of the rules and 40k gamers who can come across as very argumentative.
