If you want to start a new business but you don’t know where to begin - START HERE ⬇️
1️⃣ Become a student of starting a business.
We are so fortunate to have the internet at our fingertips. Utilize it!! There is so much educational information out there that can help you learn all the ins and outs of creating your business before you dive in.
2️⃣ Give yourself a runway.
When you give yourself a runway to take off, you lower the amount of risks that you’re taking because you’re learning and giving yourself time to lay the foundation of your business. You’re actually 33% LESS LIKELY to fail if you research, begin and start your side hustle while still working at your current job.
3️⃣ Give yourself at least 6 months.
Give yourself time to build the runway, to learn and research and build the foundation of your business brick by brick.
4️⃣ Celebrate yourself every step of the way.
Starting your own business can be stressful and isolating. So you have to make sure that you are in partnership with yourself, that you’re your biggest cheerleader.

I opened a business last year, I couldn’t agree more with the runway rule. Another quote with the same meaning, “get the boat close enough to the dock to step onto it, don’t try to jump on the boat 30 feet away from the dock”

I love the point you make about momentum. Concrete time suggestion of 30 minutes and taking action every single day. It becomes easier as time goes forward and the clarity that will be present after 30 days will give you the courage to move forward and continue. No need to expect perfectionism when just starting to walk. That baby falls on its bottom but always gets up and keeps trying. It doesn’t sit there in wet diapers and give up trying to walk. Walk then run.

I started my side hustle in 2016. Never would have had any success to have to count on it to support me! However, I had a goal to have it make me enough extra. Each month to supplement my retirement income. I have branched out and added 2 business locations and am still working my nursing job, but now part time. My two new locations are off to a good start but I’m still not taking any income from them just yet, because I want to put everything back into them for a bit until I can be more full service and hopefully by spring of 2022, can take a percentage of sales as income. Glad to hear I’m pretty on par with research!

Yes, it usually takes 4-5 years of learning to please your customer before you reach product market fit, start growing fast, and can earn big enough revenues to live on. In the years before that, its little revenue and most of that re-invested into the business. So you are on the right track and doing great.

#5 CELEBRATE OTHERS, CONSTANTLY! Mel I look forward to your new "The High 5 Habit" book. I hope it focuses on OTHERS. If we don't celebrate others, they may turn away from us, become bored and angry at us! (We have to go from ME to WE, including others, teaming up, admitting we are wrong, etc.)

Runway. That's huge. Most of us believe we should just know everything immediately. That we have to get it right first try. That overnight success just happens....but it's 10,000 hours of failing and scrapping and rejecting, and being rejected....AND THEN overnight success!

totally feel you on this. It's scary as hell to take the first step and that's the hardest part. What helped me was to sit down and write out 3 actions I could take right now that cost nothing but gets me going to start that business. Mine was create my website. You can do a free one on wix. Just gotta take one step at a time! Rooting for you.
