"One cannot be a true high kind of the Noldor unless you die horrifically" That would certainly explain why Elrond wanted nothing to do with being king afterwards.
@DarthGandalfYT

Yep, and I feel like they kept dying in progressively worse ways. If Elrond had tried to claim the kingship, he probably would've found a way to die in a giant blender or something.

Sauron's battle with Gil-Galad and Elendil has always fascinated me because the details of it are so unclear. How exactly were they able to overcome Sauron while still falling? What circumstances made Sauron touch Gil-Galad with his bare hand and how did Narsil break if Saruon didn't step on it like in the movie? The animation you found for this video gave a decent idea of how the battle could have gone, but I still have one question. I seem to remember that Elrond describes the duel to take place on the slopes of Mount Doom. How did they get there from Barad-Dur? Did Sauron just come forth from his castle and politely proposed to solve the siege with a duel on a place they could agree on?
@DarthGandalfYT
@DarthGandalfYT 4 года назад
I think the LOTRO cutscene is pretty accurate in the way it probably played out. The only difference I would have is that Elendil probably dies pretty similar to how he died in the movies, which would explain how Narsil was able to shatter beneath him. As for the duel taking place on Mt Doom, it seems that Sauron managed to break the siege and get as far as Mt Doom before he was defeated. I probably should've mentioned that detail.

Well, if a 241 centimeters man in full steel chainmail dies and falls on his blade, there is a certain possibility the blade breaks into two! And I don’t think the fight happened closely as depicted in the movie! Sauron was nearly defeated, at least his body deadly wounded! It was due to his Ainur power (fire as a former servant of Aule) and physical superiority (even higher then Elemdil), strengthened by the power of the ring that gave him the advance to grab and burn Gil-Galad and somehow knock down Elendil

It would be the final episode, since the death of Sauron marks the end of the Second Age, unless Amazon is allowed to go two years into the Third Age and end with the Disaster of the Gladden Fields. Oddly enough, the end of the Third Age is not the destruction of the One Ring, but rather the last of the Noldor setting sail for Valinor two years later. But then in the Tolkien legendarium history is generally told from the elven point of view.

I always found it strange how sauron tried to give isildur a hand, allowing isildur to cut off the ring... This version seems way more realistic
@michelmorio8026
@michelmorio8026 4 года назад
Yes, the movie in SEVERAL parts differs heavily from what Tolkien has actually written... to the point, where entire characters get changed in their core or even butchered But concerning the duel... imagine the most epic 2 on 1 that is possible, Elendil with his sword Narsil and Gil-Galad with his spear Aeglos facing Sauron with his big mace... fighting as hard and quick as possible, then the already heavily and almost overwhelmed Maiar Sauron grabbing Gil-Galad and with his Ainur power strengthened by the Ring burns him basically to ashes and with his last strength, knocking down Elendil the Tall, Narsil breaking under his dead falling body! But Sauron‘s body is then almost done, he‘s laying in the dirt of Ered Gorgoroth and Isildur grabs Narsils hilt from under the body of his dead father, walks there and cuts off the finger with the Ring! Off from the heat of Sauron‘s body, the lines of the Dark Language vanish on the ring and he most certainly puts him in his pocket or hides him elsewhere! Not many knew he had the ring; of his sons for example only Elendur, the oldest, knew he had him, but not the other two that went into the war with him! I don‘t remember at all, if the scene that Elrond tells Gandalf about him and Isildur in Mount Doom happened the way of the movies either...

I like to think all the races included the ents alongside the Last Alliance, with trolls as their corruptions on the other. Especially to avenge their wives, it would only make sense. Mearas were undomesticated until much later into the 3rd Age, but Numenorean horses likely survived for some time through the colonies and were comparable to the mearas if not even more hardcore.

Quick question: why is it that the forces of Morgoth, Sauron and co. always outnumber the 'good' guys by so much, but they get slaughtered so easily? Is there that much of an innate power/strength difference between Orcs and Men/Elves?
@michelmorio8026
@michelmorio8026 4 года назад
Cause they are twisted versions of the originals... a copy is not as good as an original! Morgoth and Sauron possess not the power to create life, they can only pervert it, but that makes it also a lesser version! Add to that fact, that the Noldor, the Numenorians/Dunedain and the Longbeard dwarves have a superior level of technology, like chainmail... which is in fact the most advanced armor in Tolkien’s world of all the free people; the depicted in the movies armor of the dwarves, Elves and Gondorians would be OP in this world and nearly impenetrable for the Orcs and the so called „lesser humans“, which makes it so ridiculous that they are falling and dying left and right in the movies! There is a scene in Edoras right before they are riding against Saruman where Theoden wants to honor Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas and lets them choose equipment from the royal armory/arsenal... with chainmail they got from Gondor over the last 500 years (so this armor isn‘t even available to them without their allies)! Legolas (the Silvan Elves normally wear wood and leather for armor) and Aragorn both take one, but Gimli‘s is even superior to those of Gondor
@jsw973
@jsw973 3 года назад
Yes, there are. Even the Uruk-Hais are just as strong as normal humans, if memory serves right. Couple the fact that the Númenoreans are literal master races blessed by the gods, and the best of the Noldor has fought and killed Balrogs (Sauron tier demons), the orcs are just a much more inferior being.

In one of Tolkien's letters, he describes a competition he had with C.S. Lewis. Lewis would write a space-travel story and Tolkien wrote a time-travel story. Tolkien wrote about a man and his son traveling back in time to just before the fall of Atlantis. He ended up converting the idea to the fall of Numenor and as far as I know, this was his earliest inspiration for the Lord of the Rings.

The bravest men build their capitals right next to their enemies, so they might personally defend their people. Look at the Ivory King from Dark Souls 2.
@michelmorio8026
@michelmorio8026 4 года назад
On the coast were already such cities as Pelargir and Linhir of the other faithful, old colonies of Numenor in Middle-earth! Further in the south (nowadays Belfalas) were the Elves of Edhellond! The regions further south-west were conquered or allied too only later on cause other humans dwelled there! I don‘t really know why the brothers decided to built Minas Anor (later Tirith) and Minas Ithil (later Morgul) exactly where they built it, but if you look on a map of middle-earth, the locations are very clever geostrategic wise! They are on the narrowest point between the White Mountains between Gondor/Rohan and the Shadow Mountains of Gondor! Each side as a castle on top of a hill (both Minas‘) which allows them to dominate each side of the Anduin river and with their shared capital Osgiliath, they control the „traffic“ between East and west, north and south of the river! Cair Andros further in the north is another outpost on an island in the river that secures each side! They are relatively secure and well fortified in an area of possible enemies from all sides (Hillmen in the North/West, Southrons/Haradrim and Kingsmen in the south and Mordor/Eaaterlings in the North/East)
