It's been less than 2 weeks since our last video but so much has changed. Thanks for all of the support! We just hit 25,000+ subscribers, 5 million views on the channel and the last video already hit 130,000 views. I didn't want to keep you guys waiting too long and figured there's been a lot of new improvements and work in progress content to show as well as hours of Patreon exclusive livestream gameplay, so why not show you guys some of the highlights and explain the changes and improvements that have been made in the last 12 days since the last video.
A lot of the work has been done on improving the Tripod AI to be smarter, more aggressive, and more fluid. The tripods use the horns as expected when spotting humans or being attacked, other nearby wandering tripods will move to assist that tripod. Procedural IK Animation has taken over most of the tripod including the legs, heat rays, fingers, and tentacles. The extremities of a tripod will sway and swing with the movement of its body. Feet will plant and not slide anymore allowing for more believable and fluid Tripod movement. This is especially noticed when the tripod is on an uneven surface or making a turn. This is still early WIP and will be improved upon to look smoother.
The Tripod's heat raying behavior has been tuned as well to fire more frequently and use both heat rays individually. The sounds have also been redone to not be so long and to be more similar to the film. Heat ray impacts have also been completely redone to have realistic explosion effects and sounds of the ray hitting the ground. Sounds have also been added to NPCs who disintegrate when hit by the heat rays.
A new LAV with a M242 main gun and a mounted MG with its own sounds and effects has been added. A mix of Green & Desert paint schemes have been added to the military vehicles. More Military Infantry and Vehicles are planned.
The Uberpod/Warrior Tripod has been added with a completely new and revised model with updated PBR Textures and lighting. They are much larger and much more dangerous than the standard tripods. I also made a new cage 3D model more resembling of the ones in the film and modeled and animated the door and organic entry into the machines that you are pulled through before being harvested. Next I will be adding NPCs in the cages and the tentacle that comes down to grab you.

This is a way better concept for survival horror than anything else on the market purely because of how powerless your character is going to be. It will probably be like being an ant trying to escape from a sociopathic kid with a magnifying glass, there is literally nothing you can do other than run, hide and pray you last long enough for the kid to leave on his own.

@@studiosraufncingr6965 Well in Alien isolation you are at least able to shoot the alien with a flamethrower a couple of times, or shoot a harpoon into its face. This you don't even have that.

The Tripods are not really that overpowered. in the gameplay shows that some Tripods capture you. a nice grenade inside of that tripod and they are done :)

@@ivanelias3916 not to mention in the movie near the end; one of the tripods got dizzy from soldiers going in circles and trip and fall to a building and die. Also one of the tripods had no shield. I wonder if some or all tripods will have decaying featured, like getting rotten overtime because they don't seem to last long(Well I never the books so my assumption based on the Movie). Maybe they'll be some weak points to destroy or "destroy" them.

Imagine if your character fell from a tall place and broke their ankle or something, which made them scream, alerting the tripods and making them come to you. Then you have to hide out because you're slower now you're injured, and you have to manually hold your breath while the probe searches your house, because if you breathe to heavily for too long the probe will find you...

@@RAWDOGGER420 they still have shielding, maybe they could deplete their shielding mildly but still, even if the scarabs were equipped with shielding they would be pretty much obliterated by the heatray, and afterwards destroy everything else, after all the scarab's armor is not something out of the world

this looks amazing! Though i will say at 2:13 it's rather obvious that the military's AI is firing at the center of the tripod's physical model, and not the tripod's sort of head y'know? Perhaps give the military more of a spread when firing at tripods

Awesome work! Just wanted to offer some of my usual feedback: -The long distance beam sounds, closer to the film, are a huge improvement. I hope you'll also develop something for the close-range beam sounds similar to the buzzing sound for the beams heard in the intersection scene; the current closeup sounds are a little too electric/scifi sounding. And I still would love to see the alien lightning flash sound effect (from the first storm in the film) make a return! -The new tripod IK animations are fantastic and very lively. Much less robotic; I'm excited to see where you go with that. The turning animations in particular (such as at 8:42) look *amazing.* I've really got no comments here other than keep it up. -I like that you seem to have extended the range the military and tripods can attack each other, which is much more believable. -I'm sure it's already planned, but I'd love to hear some of the different horns we hear in the film. In particular, in the film when Ray's talking to the news crew, you hear a tripod in the distance do two distinct horns, making it sound like it's communicating a specific message. You also see this when the tripods discover the Hudson ferry, as if they're speaking to each other beyond just calling attention to humans. -Messages could range from "humans found," "hostiles found," "don't kill all, leave some for harvesting," and so on. During the Hudson ferry scene there was definitely an effort by the first four tripods on the scene to take humans alive, while the only ones that were killing were the ones intercepting refugees on the other side of the river. Seeing coordination like that would really make them feel alive and in control. -I think the colors could be de-saturated a bit and the bloom and fog toned down, if you want to match the film aesthetic. Many of the nighttime scenes in the film are VERY dark and have little color, but are still quite clear out to long distance, in particular the ferry scene. There's definitely a balance to consider between looks vs playability (gotta be able to see after all), but I do think you could go a little darker and more black/gray. This applies especially to the red fog--it's so bright it makes it look like the sun is rising when it should be more of a deep subtle red, akin to what Ray saw when he left the basement to chase Rachel. It seems like less of a "fog" and more like, it's changing the way light from the horizon looks. -The day scenes really need less of a haze; I know limitations of the engine might make it ugly but it's really kind of blown out and overbright in day/morning/evening scenes, to the point that it's almost easier to see the tripods at night. It almost feels like a dreamscape; I think part of this could be mitigated by reducing how aggressive the light eye adjustment is. There's definitely an attempt at atmospheric fog here but I think it should really be pushed out to a much longer range. -The new tripod cage looks fantastic! And that little peak at the "choosing" event is terrifying. The improvement I see in every update blows my mind. You guys clearly love this project and I'm so excited to see where you go next.

@@hellstone5500 Presumably it's where you get blended or drained of body fluids to fertilize the red weed. But in-game I hope the screen just goes black. I don't want to see the inside of tripods or what happens to you, or it'll make it less scary.

Looks amazing here some feedback tho: For what I’m aware all the humans do is stand around and run when there’s a tripod, maybe add some very few npc’s that hide in buildings to stay away from the tripod. Would be cool to see tripods looking for other humans in other buildings and to see what happens if they found them. Other than that everything looks amazing can’t wait to see more. Keep up the good work

This is getting way to epic now, the way the trees light up as the heat ray passes give me the same vibe from the hill scene attack in the movie. Uber Pod on point. The whole atmosphere is coming together nicely, can't wait to see how it looks when better road and building textures come in.

Looks amazing, cant wait to play the game! Here some little feedback :) - screams are by far too loud! - the siren is pretty annoying over a longer period and could be a bit quieter - some city places/landscape needs some more detail, especially to hide (and would make it look more alive) - can literally be any asset or more cliffs, mountains, hills, rocks etc - NPCs could run a bit faster, in reality you would do everything to survive - how about using weapons too to shot aliens when they come out of their pods and search in the houses for survivors? AND: Never forget - graphics are important but gameplay even more. Interactions/things to do are important for longer periods of playing. Example building a small base in different places or crafting weapons until the aliens arrive can be nice :)

@War of the Worlds Game make it so that when there are large groups of tripods, they will pick neighborhoods to do mass searches in, and inspect each individual house. make it as a random event though, so it adds a hidden layer of terror when you see multiple tripods arriving on your position.

The thing just standing there over the burning trees gives me anxiety lol. This looks so good! It's come so far! I've got a friend in game dev, I can only imagine how much time and effort is going into this project. Youv'e seriously outdone yourselves. Its one thing to make a game. 9:58 The harvesting door opens up slightly different the way it did in the movie. There is also a small door on the top of the cage which opens and closes when humans are dropped in and taken out. Also, I think the animation, sound and detail are really cool!

This is looking quite amazing so far. I only have one glaring concern about the recent update to Tripod AI. Noticing how sharply they turn their heads for targets below them(2:03, 6:10 and 6:25) makes me think they'll be able to "see" humans that are hiding right below them(say, around a corner right outside of physical view) and blast away, regardless of potential obstacles. Beyond that, I'm excited to see where this goes and will eagerly pick it up once released.

For survival mode, it would be really neat to add a disease counter after so many days, or once the red vine progresses enough. You could turn this into a survival game customizer where players set how long a survival campaign might last before sickness eradicates the aliens. I would love to see other game modifiers for survival mode too, such as tripod amount, loot abundancy, or red vine growth speed. This would add so much replayability to survival mode

Just a few things to work on: The scenes in the suburbs and city’s feel empty and could feel more realistic with - Posters / graffiti on walls Broken or abandoned cars in roads Paper on ground and in some places being blown around in the wind. The environment seems very repetitive and other things to add could be - Add different places like a beach/water front or industrial area Fences around farms and around most cities And most of all, the HUD needs to be changed at least later on because it is a very boring reminder of most unfinished indie games and not at all representative of the great game this should be.

My only feed back is that you guys don't push yourself to much. So much has changed since the last video's and i cannot image it being without its moments of stress. Want you guys to stay healthy and release the game as you see fit! With what's been made already i can only say thank you! I've always envisioned a game based on Spielbergs take off the franchise and you guys are making a dream come true!

I think if you made the generation of NPCs and military decrease over the course of the game, it'd both sell the horror of the invasion (the aliens are winning and a lot of people have died), as well as save on some processing power during the course of the game (the game would spend less time rendering and processing AI)

As an onlooker that had never seen the movie back then: This looks rather good! I once bought "Sir, you are being hunted" as I liked the idea, this one feels a bit the same, only that it isn't with robots and the enemies tower way taller above you! Some said the HUD could use a bit of an improvement. Maybe simplistic is king, but I do agree the.. symbols/colour/style could be different. For me, the human pedestrian NPS(and maybe slightly some military soldiers, haven't seen them that much) seem slightly weird. Proportion compared to the world they're in, maybe slightly how they "look", but mostly the behaviour at the moment. They seem to be "busy" screaming and running away when the tripods close in, but at some distance away, they kinda seem... "lost" about what to do, standing around, frozen in place, kind of? I guess that's supposed to change later on, and they might act different(or not stop awkwardly as if someone pulled out the plug or forgot they were chased and running away seconds ago) and maybe are even interactable? I like the atmosphere of the game though. It's not been long, but I've already seen several better comments being posted addressing things.

Love how you spotted the fact that the middle Tripod in the Ferry loading scene was far taller and larger than the normal ones. Good to see it got added as the Commander variant which I think it was. Also, eyyyy the USMC's LAV-25 is added!

Next thing to focus on heavily now is the Human AI. Civilians are very dumb currently and that breaks the immersion. Will there be traffic driving around at the start before the first machine rises?

I really hope that the more days you survive the more horrifying and inhospitable the world becomes, maybe even diverge from the movie and make the red vines attack you or have the aliens actually come out later on

The sound is SO much better in this, the guns, tanks, and MG are have more base, and its perfect I can agree with others about the siren being a bit too loud at some parts though

Just a thought but you do have the opportunity to add a detail the 2005 film missed, the black smoke, it would complete the abilities of the tripod while also adding a new danger to the player, the game is looking epic btw, I am looking forward to it's release.

Been watching the improvement lately and I’m genuinely excited for this! Though I will say a few things. For one maybe lower the bloom a bit, I feel in certain parts it’s too bright which is a bit distracting personally. Secondly I feel like the NPC’s should have voice lines? Obv not full on conversations but stuff like “They’re coming!” Or “Run!”. That way it doesn’t feel like they’re just mindless running chickens. I saw someone else mention to make them also hide in houses which would be cool too! That way it doesn’t feel like you’re the only one hiding from them. One more thing is the screen shaking. Obviously if there’s a 150 foot tripod stomping I do expect there to be shaking but I think it can be toned down just a bit? Other than that thought everything looks amazing!

I've always wondered why the military never shoots right below the tripods feet. Maybe as soon as they were about to touch ground would they shoot just below that spot, making the tripod trip and fall.

Because the shield actually completely envelopes the tripod if I do remember correctly, it's just hard with the walking animation to make the shield work properly is what I would guess.

I’m so happy you added the tracer effect, it may not seem much to others but to me it will have a more cinematic effect if your character is in the distance just seeing tracer rounds go by or ricocheting off the tripod. So some feedback: *The fires could be improved to be more realistic and maybe face different directions depending on the wind and this where my next recommended feature **The game should have random times where there are no wind or heavy winds going towards a different direction which can cause forest fires in that certain direction although best recommended for realistic or hard mode as there would quite literally be no hiding spots whatsoever for the player. * another is that the city is too bland there is barely anything so what I would is add rubble (after some days passed), destroyed cars, or abandoned cars on the road because I don’t really see any cars at all in the city. Another is by adding graffiti to the buildings for e.g stuff like the world is ending and add clothes randomly around the city to add an ominous feeling. If you really want to get that sense of defeat put signs of military defences or blockades destroyed for e.g use of sand bags, tanks, artillery whatnot and it will give a sense of how powerless the player is. *The running animation or walking animation of the ai pedestrians could be improved for a more authentic experience. * add more props to the house for e.g broken glass, spoons, dropped frying pans and they make a noise when you make contact with them so when a tripod investigates a house it makes it more difficult for the player having to focus on his / her surroundings while avoiding its view, the harder the difficulty, the more props there are on the ground. * this is one is hard to do but if possible I would like the player or ai ask the player / ai for help and ask for something like medicine and return give food or water and have a random chance of the ai either betraying by trying to kill you when ai gets what he/she wants or tries to run away, if the player betrays the ai and surrounding ai witnesses it, the player will be distrusted by ai or if the ai the player betrayed survived the ai will try and kill the player for vengeance or tell the other ai that the player can’t be trusted. *Grass needs to be improved and its length varies in certain areas in which some areas can be used as hiding spots (if in timeframe). * If possible instead the ray setting fire to things especially to trees I want the rays to literally send trees flying in the air just like that scene in the movie where the tripod swept an entire highway (still love that scene btw) and that begs the question can the rays destroy houses and will it depend on the difficulty. * In terms of tripods I have barely anything to say as you absolutely knocked it out the park in that matter all I have to say is when the ray makes contact you could improve the damage models for ai tanks and military vehicles having different destroyed animations. * Also if you can , add a setting in which when the player runs, it shakes the camera / pov giving a cinematic feeling to the game. * I’d also like you to improve the look of the sky as in day time or what’s going on in the background (pretty sure there’s a word or term for this but i forgot the name), if you want a good example battlefield 1 and 5 are very good examples of this with fires and flak going on in the background, for e.g formations of helicopters or aircraft close or in the distance. * For a more realistic approach I would like time delays on when you hear shooting especially now tracer rounds are confirmed to be in the game. I would also like to hear differences In sounds depending on the calibre whether it’s tank round or 30mm round or machine / small arms fire I know this game is still in progress and I have big hopes for this game + I personally think the devs are doing a brilliant job listening to the community as well so keep up the good work guys!

Terrifying. I hope by the last days, when the Aliens’ shields fail, you get to turn the tide and participate in the counter attack as sort of a reward for survival. Thoughts on that- the shields on the tripods fail and their craft become unstable as a result of the biological components.

Looks fantastic, a brilliant homage to the movie. Great work I have an idea (don’t know if it will fit or ruin the emersion) but I think there should be a moral/anxiety meter where the longer your character looks at the destruction or tripods a bar would go up signifying how scared you are. Which the higher it is, the more noise you make to attract the tripods.- Where this can be reduced by helping strangers or by eating/drinking or any other quests that incentivises you to interact more with the environment and the humans and makes a sensation to be more careful. Just an idea I had, love the progression being made

I believe so, in the trailer he posted not too long ago, the part probably took part later in the story mode, a tank shot a tri pod and it fell down because it didn’t have a shield.

Personal preference suggestions: 1. The fire seems a little bit excessive currently, as in wayyy too giant and bright sometimes 2. The screenshake from tripod steps seems excessive at close range, and then seems to stops entirely in a matter of seconds 3. The new lighting looks beautiful with the bright popping colors, but sometimes I feel as if it takes away from the feel of a grey, dim and horrible apocalypse scenario. Most of the movie colors were grey and depressing and I think that palette made it that much more anxiety inducing. Maybe toning the contrast down just a little bit would help Thank you so much for developing this, it looks AMAZING!! Every video I watch, it's better and better!
