11 years ago was the first time i heard their version of war pigs... mike borden's drumming and jim martin's solos, bill gould's monstrous bass and patton's vocals were forever seared in my brain
Mike can sing pretty much anything in his own way and get away with it.. Perfect vocal technique, when he wants it, and stunning charisma for me the best singer we have had in the last 25 years
Mike Patton is one of the best vocalists of our time, Live at The Brixton Academy should be compulsory listening for today's youth. One of the best live sets ever recorded.
I remember buying the VHS video of this concert in the early 90's. Later on i bought the DVD. Still one of my faves. It really does make a vital connection. Love this!
Billy Gould and Jim Martin's opposing contrast in playing styles really makes this performance kick ass. Billy is all over the place and Jim is just hanging cool.
Thanks Bro - I have the good fortune of Supporting these chaps on the King for a Day and Angel Dust tours down here in New Zealand, Mike Bordin was so friendly and no ego, let me jump up on his kit etc. got to hang in the band room with FNM and see them play a killer show from side stage - will never forget it! Awesome band, and there has been nothing like them since....
Pattons voice is at it's peak here, i remember watching an interview with him and the guy asking the questions asked him if he's a big fan of Black Sabbath to which Mike replied "No, I've always hated Black Sabbath and growing up couldn't understand why people like them".
Black Sabbath must be proud! This is one of the most incredible covers ever made, especially because the band added their funky/progressive vibe and Mike added his strange personality to the song! Oh Lord Yeah! Check out the Gov't Mule version too: it's awesome as well! P.S.: 4:33-4:38 absolutely LOL!
An absolutely awesome vid. Mike Patton rules, FNM are still an incredible group to this day, and this is one of the best quality DVD rips I've seen and heard on RU-vid.
Going to see them at Peace&Love, Sweden in about 4 weeks. Feels unreal to tell you the truth... and so fucking awsome! I hope they throw in A small Victory and Caffeine, my two personal favorites. But just to see them perform has been a dream for about 17 years now and it's finally gonna come true!
War Pigs - one of the best/greatest Black Sabbath songs ever written (all instruments credited). Originally WALPURGIS (a song about the occult event WALPURGISNACHT) then Sabbath re-wrote an alternate theme with the chords from the above-mentioned... Faith No More's cover is a great one, too... However, in NIB Volume 1 they cut the final section... It's a good thing to see it FULLY here in this video. Great, great, great! :-)
I can imagine the Black Sabbath fans in crowd hearing intro. Probably sceptical. Not sure of how Mike will do. Then being like.... FUCK!!!!!! Oh.. and Bordins drumming!!!!!!
I used to hate Mike Patton until I saw this video. What a fantastic cover by faith no more. It's beats the original in my opinion, but I love Zakk wyldes's touch.
I thought he was a jerk for what happened between him and Anthony Kiedis. RHCP is my favorite band so obviously I took Anthony's side of the argument, but I'm over it now and I can see Patton as a talented musician. If you're interested in what went down definitely google it, there would be a lot for me to write down here :)
I'm a big FNM fan, but I admit... Patton can be a complete cock! Friend of mine is a drumtech/sound guy and commented that Patton was really rude to both his band and crew...
Timi T. He WAS a dick maybe 25 yrs ago when FNM hit their peak he has even stated before in interviews, he let it get to his head,he admits he was an asshole. He's a totally different person now, much more mature.
I believe Mike Patton did the blah blah blah blah part on purpose because he was sick of playing the song by then and he also knew it would piss off Jim Martin. Especially because it was a live taping! Mike often tried to piss off Jim because Jim Martin was an old 80's banger that didn't want to change! Thumbs up if you agree. Non FNM fans think it was a mistake, True FNM would know the difference!
I remember this song so well. It was the 1st cd I bought, at the age of 12. Never was a Sabbath fan, so always thought this was a FNM song. So a couple of years later I ofcourse discovered it was a cover. And the FNM version is so , so much better. The guitar, drums and bass so much more vibriant, good synergy. When I listen to the Sabbath version it's pretty tame. One of those unique exepctions where the cover is better than the original. Btw I love Sabbath :)
I very rarely say this about covers, but... this beats the original by far. Sure, Iommi isn't here... but still!!! Black Sabbath is one my favorite bands.
This was on Black Sabbath tribute album called "Nativity In Black". This and many more made a clear case of evolution. BS was fine at it's time, but these tributes really make you "feel". I can't describe it better, sorry.
I thought this souned familiar. Just in case it hasn't been said yet(I'm not reading 200 posts) Thsi was the recording they used for NIB 2 except for the ending, they cut it short on the CD
Even though FNM is an Alternative Metal, Funk Rock or whatever you want to call them, their influences are clear. I mean, C'mon, Napalm Death!!!??? some serious shit right there. ... Fuck they've been around for a long time, still going strong.
rockerwoman, that "left-handed drummer" is none other than Mike Bordin. Not only was he the banger for FNM, but Ozzy , and yes he subed for "Big" Bill Ward with none other than Black Sabbath.
