The Rendille tribe is a Cushitic tribe that inhabits the climatically harsh region between the Marsabit hills and Lake Turkana in Northern Kenya. They are neighbor of the Borana, Gabbra, Samburu and Turkana tribes. The ethnonym Rendille translates as "Holders of the Stick of God". They are believed to have originally migrated down from Ethiopia. They were forced to migrate south into Kenya because of their frequent conflicts with the Oromo tribe over pasture and water for their animals. Since they lived on desert land with unfavorable climatic conditions, the British colonialists were not interested in overtaking their area and the Rendille tribe was, therefore, not very affected by colonial rule in Kenya.

Traditionally, they are nomadic pastoralists, tending camels, sheep, goats and cattle. Abstract. The Rendille are a group of pastoral nomads who inhabit a large area of the arid north of Kenya, east of the Ndoto Mountains and Lake Turkana and mainly to the west of Marsabit. They mostly raise camels and smallstock. Keeping cattle is risky in the harsh conditions which prevail here in Kenya.

The Rendille people speak the Rendille language as a mother tongue (also known as Rendile or Randile (as referred to mostly by their neighbours samburu)). They belong to the Cushitic branch of the Afroasiatic family. the rendille language is more closer to the Somali language than the rest of the cushitic languages.

The Rendille-Boni languages is a proposed subgroup of the Macro-Somali languages, belonging to the Cushitic family. The languages are spoken in Kenya. The hypothesis has been by now rejected, in favor of grouping Aweer as a member of the Somali languages, closely related to Garre.

Linguistically the Rendille are most closely related to Somali and Aweer (formerly known as Boni). Culturally they are closest to the Gabbra, who have similar ceremonies to the Rendille. They are nomadic pastoralists, caring for goats, fat-tailed sheep and camels. Nothing to worry about them because we also have that clan called ''Boon".

Rendille inhabit Eastern region of Kenya, Degodia.. a branch in larger somali community claim that Rendilles are degodia, they say that the name Rendille is derived from the simali word "rer diid". So Rendilles are part of degodia community only that they were separated by geographical area.
Rendille is a tribe or a community that resides North Central part of kenya🇰🇪 at around marsabit County . According to the History they we are originally somalis but due their nomadic nature they migrated and settle North Central part of separating them frm larger somali communities who live in North Eastern part of Kenya therefore we somali Kenyans we regard them as "RER DID" Their neighbouring communities are samburu, gabra, borana thus leading to slight change in their language
