SOUP SQUAAAD!!!!!! Big Soup coming at ya with another guide. This is not only my first ground rb guide, but also video. Do not expect too many of these (lol), but figured at least one was due! I wanna improve more before I start making more videos on ground. Otherwise, enjoy, and please- make sure you learn from my commentary, and not my gameplay! Like I said, improvements are still to be made.
I'm sure there's plenty of great tips I missed in the video, please, feel free to drop any advice you might have in the comments! If you're new, pay attention to the video, read the comments, and fix those skill issues :)

Ground main here. Excellent points made throughout! At the risk of writing a small essay, I’ll add a few more things: 1. Yes, top tier is a different beast. The pointers in this video will serve as an excellent base for players. The main difference is that top tier makes everything faster. Speed, targeting,… and dying. Keep your front toward the enemy at all times, it’s where your only armor is. 2. Absolutely try to keep your teammates alive! If only to distract the enemy so you can get a better shot on them. Communicate, point out targets on the map, and help tow/repair teammates. Best case scenario, you’ll have a few more people shooting back at the enemy. Worst case scenario, they’ll still die, but you’ll get some more SL for helping repair them (or even scouting enemies for them). 3. German teams are either going to be a bunch of Homer Simpsons, or a group guided by the ghost of Erwin Rommel himself. And the former will be your teammates 90% of the time. Either let them be decoys, or use their burned out tanks as cover. You’re only going to see competent people playing Germany once you hit Rank 5 and up (about 7.3 BR and higher). 4. If you come up against something that’s got too much armor for your gun to handle, point it out to your team! Try to take its gun out, maybe even take out a track or two to pin it down. That way, you’ll have less trouble getting around to the side and rear armor.

Yeah, ive learned that I can't kill a lot of certain tanks, be it because im just bad and dont know the weak spots, or head on and no chance of pen, I do what you said and take their tracks out, over and over again - until a teammate finishes the job. Instead of shooting and hoping for a pen....and then getting 1 shotted back, I wait till im in good position, then I just track and hide.

Actually learning what planes have advantages over others has made some really satisfying dogfights for me. When you get someone who's of the same skill as you and it carries on for a while, I absolutely love that kind of war thunder.

The game was way better when teams were filled with only 1 or 2 nations. There were so many intricacies... I also just miss massacring US teams when playing Japan, there were some elite players back then

You got it the other way round, Air Battles are so boring that I always just finish my series while waiting to see an enemy. And Ground battles always have Russian Bias and Israeli fucks that snipe you from their spawn

I would add 2 more things: 1. Use your binoculars always. On open maps it allows you to scout out a lot of terrain and improves your awareness of enemy positions. 2. Bind keys for targeting distance and change the scroll axis to easily adjust to the required distance. It helps a lot early to mid tier until you get to top tier where most tanks have laser finders and once the distance is calculated it will automatically set the gun to the calculated distance so you would only need to shoot.

Good call! To be completely honest with you, I don't even have tanks unlocked that I find the rangefinder makes a difference in! Probably a bad look, I get it, but full transparency- plus that's why I have you guys :). Ty for watching and the extra tips!

@@nimbosoup once you get to about 5.3-6.0 you tend to get the odd top tier/mid top tier maps which have much larger ranges. they come in handy then.

well don't rush to top tier. that is my advice. take your time try out a lot of tanks and find what you find fun. cause when your first enter top tier it is incredibly painful and you will loose interest in GRB if your not careful

What I don’t understand is how one shot from the enemies disables my tank weapon and movement or just kills me, and I can put 10 shots into the enemy and only get hits. I’m in 1.0 and it’s just not working.

First of all, you want to make sure you're actually able to penetrate the enemy you're shooting with the shell you're using. At the bottom of this essay I'm typing you (sorry xD) is a link to the warthunder wiki on shell types: read this and familiarize yourself with it! You can hover your mouse over different types of shells in game to see their penetration values. By the nature of your problem (and since you're at 1.0) I'm going to assume you're firing a solid shot shell. This means that the shell you're firing has no explosive filler. If your vehicle has it, try to use an APHE shell: these tend to have slightly less penetration, but significantly more damage in the event you do penetrate. If it only has solid shot rounds, aim for critical components first. Depending on the situation, go for mobility and the ability to fire first. For example, aim for the cannon breech, barrel, or gunner to take out their ability to fire, or the engine/tracks/transmission to disable their mobility. I'll do a guide eventually on shell/ammunition types, but for now, I'll try to tell you what you need to know in a short and sweet fashion. APHE: useful for medium-heavy tanks. decent pen with explosive filler for more post pen damage Solid shot (things like AP, APC, APBC): decent pen, bad post pen (no explosive filler) HE: terrible pen, high explosive mass, basically like shooting a bomb. great to use against open top or light targets It's a little more nuanced than that, but that should be the gist. Eventually you'll have to worry about different kinds of round types I didn't mention here, but this should be a great place for you to start, and you probably won't have to worry about those at 1.0. don't forget the most important thing. have a giant ass monitor and play in ULQ mode so you see the German hill sniper before he shoots you from across the map.

Positioning in GRB is all about knowledge. It doesn't matter what you're in or where you're going if you don't understand where common positions are, what sightlines they have, and how quickly enemies can get there from spawn. Both of the clips in your first section were perfect examples: You didn't know that it's very common for fast lights and TDs to be set up in the gravel mounds by the time other vehicles get to the center and gave them 90-degree shots on your side. You didn't know that fast lights on the south spawn like to rush that A-side ridgeline and camp it, so you left yourself completely open to that angle. Nine times out of ten in GRB you're going to die because someone shot you from an unexpected direction. A portion of that *is* patience and situational awareness, but those have to be informed by knowledge of where enemies are *likely* to be, and that's down to plain raw experience with every map in every configuration. When you die and don't know where they were, go back and watch the replay. That's one of the fastest ways to pick up little bits of knowledge about sightlines and viable positions. Watch which teammates tend to die quickly and where they were. Pay attention to the enemies you spot/kill right away and remember where they were when you play the same map and configuration from the other side so that you don't die the same way.

play mainly ground here 2200 hrs and your points are spot on and for those wanting top teir i can tell you its basically playing low teir light tanks at 12.0 with heavy tank armor and guns but everyone can kill you at every angle so keep on that grind playah and with map knowledge just know the best spots in the map and mainly the angles where you can get shot from spawn or from a point and that players will be there usually within the first 20sec of the game due to the speed of most mbts and for the love of god learn how to bino shoot its free

I'd agree with you that it's frustrating to get killed by CAS or drones or whatever, but at the same time, I'd disagree that this is useless! You gotta fight on the ground to get in those things, anyways.
