In this episode I repair the carriage drive clutch that failed during another video.
I found that the whole shaft mad moved, luckily all the parts were salvable.
This repair was on a GH1322 but I believe it also applies to the GH 1330, GH1230, GH1236 & GH1440
Also I suspect also applies to a lot of other makes of Chinese Lathes.

I'd be willing to bet those grub screw adjustments won't hold there position setting over time. Generally on an assembly like that adding a second set of grub screws on top of the first two will act just like a second locking nut on a stud. Odd the factory didn't do that at the time they assembled the lathe.

Hi. TBH I did that the day the video went live. As I just happend to check them. & although they haden't moved, the thought they migh crossed my mind. From the factory there is little or no thread to do so, but as my springs are now shoter I could. I also added a drip of lock tight to the other grub screw on the other end. Thanks for the reminder, I must up date the description.

@@WarGrade I'm not enthused about anything that rotates and especially around the operator having parts protruding out from it that could catch the unwary. But you could use a longer full threaded Allan set screw of the correct thread pitch and use that to set your spring tension. Then add a nut on the end to act as a lock if you don't have enough depth to use the two set screws idea. I doubt your adjustments will move immediately without some form of locking method, but sooner or later they most certainly will.

Hi good video well explain. Mr pragmatic Lee (tin barn time ) from across the pond had the same problem with his precision Matthews lathe although he had a tapered pin not a roll pin holding the two together with the springs the same as yours how's yours doing now after a year of use I wonder if you should have replaced the springs thanks very much for sharing kind regards Shaun
