We have a few more extended cuts from our Warframe series coming in the next week or so. We're looking to publish out chat with James Schmalz as well as perhaps one more (probably Steve Sinclair). We'd love to hear what extended cuts you'd be most interested in though. Feel free to let us know!
Tbh, I would be interested on seeing as much as possible. Naturally from anyone that is already in Dev Stream but also people outside that group that we might not really know about
Space mom best mom. No seriously, she's the greatest manager I've ever seen anywhere. She's one of the biggest reasons why I'm still here enjoying their content after 5 years.
LaughingTrendy was a great one for Star Trek Online (unfortunately let go, now working for... Crystal Dynamics, I think?), but yeah, Space Mom is God Tier (as is good and right).
Big mood tbh..... Even when I take breaks from the game I still follow content / community stuff to see Rebecca and the rest of the CM team.... they're all so good and funny.
Heck, their whole crew over there is that. It's why I've given them a lot of leeway over the years, because of how passionate they are all obviously about Warframe.
Auys Is it just me or did she look extremely nervous. If so, I really don't blame her. Being under the microscope that they are, the words you choose to speak are being judged by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. Much respect to you Rebbecca and to DE as a whole. Continue being awesome.
I noticed she looks a bit more agitated than usual while she's listening to questions - when she starts talking she seems to be back to her usual self. I have something similar going on due to not very good hearing - I get a bit nervous I won't hear the person properly, especially with new people or with those who have unfamiliar accents. Needless to say that being on camera amplifies the effect 10 times.
Not just Rebb, but the entire company really. The community team relays info to the devs and they change the game accordingly. They’ve really struck a perfect balance with being a company and having a community. They’re not only vocal about their changes, but they actively ask what we think and we respond in kind. It’s beautiful. Hope it never changes.
Well there is a difference with "Free Shit" my buddy and I play and dare I say it... world of tanks.. that's free.. I always return to Warframe.. even over the games I had since day one.
@@wallystowell534 Of course it can be saved. Franchises and games were saved from deeper pits of shit. Will it be saved? Most likely not, buut it si possible....
It was simply genius having the Community Director also voice the Lotus. I feel like it gives the community an even stronger connection with the game and its developers. Also helps that Rebb is probably the best community director I've ever seen. Always excited, always nice and honest. She's just amazing.
That's why we are proud to call her "space mom", lol. She's always been there for us since the first days, and Meg has also been great since she joined DE.
Just one mistake and that statement will turn upside down, just as Rebbeca said. It's harsh, unfair and cruel, but that's the reality. Reminds me of PAYDAY 2, it's Crimefest 2015 and the shitstorm it created. Let's just hope that never happens to Warframe.
Its so amazing that even after all these years Rebb still so excited to answer these questions (she's almost answering before the question ends) never change lady!
Just want to say "The Second Dream" and "The War Within" made me cry tears of joy, the game already had me with the basic mechanics, design and customization, you do need curiosity for it to stick, but I never expected the story to deliver such an interesting tale. I now love fantasizing with this game's lore and hope they continue to deliver on that regard. Give Space Mom back!
25:48 that little detail made me smile, i'm Tenno from Russia and to hear that somebody from my country went to TennoCon just so awesome. Thank you DE for the amazing game, thank you Noclip for this interview and documentary.
All hail the new game director or Warframe! The latest year Warrfame had under Reb's management has been one of the best years in Warframe history. It's pretty obvious from the way she talks, that she deeply cares about the success of Warframe. Not to insult Steve or anything, but I think he struggled to have that million to one type of community conversation that's important to the health of the game. He often struggled with that aspect of leading Warframe development, and often made insulting comments to core parts of the community. Meanwhile, Reb seems to implicitly understand how to balance the "listen but don't listen" type of paradox of community management. Between her and Pablo, they've set a healthy direction for Warframe's recent year. I'm a lot more hopeful for the future of Warframe. I can't wait to see Warframe 1999. I haven't been this excited for an update in a long time.
Community and developers should be comrades in arms, fighting together to make the game better. Shouldn't be fighting against each other. *nods* I wish more games had Warframe's level of comradery and respect between the two.
I think GGG of Path of Exile fame and Digital Extremes are hands down the two best video game companies out there right now. The level of community care/respect and love for their game is self-evident in both titles and how both companies interact with and treat their fans.
Add to discussion. As to why not a lot of developers / publishers rarely do effort to get close to their communities. Most developers / publishers aren't transparent about what's going on with their game and road map of the franchise. I think it's the fear of losing their customer base, if something is going wrong or if the community accepting the changes or not. Digital Extreme's approach to this problem is quite refined IMO, using Dev Streams, they gauge the opinion of players on the upcoming stuff. This is why damage 2.5 (or is it 3.0?) changes got delayed for further review, instead of being patched into the game early this year. Any other developers would actually do it straightaway, and then either keep it or rollback the changes (if they are generous) when player base complain about it. This usually resulted in people leaving their games. We see this happened over and over with several MMORPGs, because it doesn't felt like the way it was started. I have never seen any other developers do the way DE does in term of communicating with the players. Rebecca is one rare individual which most game companies lacked.
@Adyprima That's simple. It's because the growth and development of industry has caused a shift in the perspectives of the devs and publishers. They no longer see their players/communities as their customers. Their customers are now their shareholders. The people who play their games are just the "whales" that they milk their "earnings" from.
@Solkard , I'm not talking about monetization. I'm talking about development vision of the game. Let's look at Destiny 2 for example, outside the microtransaction, the game itself has problems. To the Destiny fans from the first game, it felt like regression of a sequel. The systems is being simplified, some features got locked when DLC came out, Lore inconsistencies, meh Raids, etc. The old Bungies during Halo golden days was like DE. They had good communication. Compared to the current Bungie.
Bungie ignored when people said something wasn't working and doubled back on that by actually lying to their players, that's a little different to DE's approach of "when they ask for X, at least give them something"
been looking at warframe for a longtime now and never built myself up to play it. Since this series came out ive decided to play warframe, i honestly dont know what took me so long 25 hours in and im classing it was one of my best game. and ive only got 3 frames. Its a brill idea going free to play with such a good model as i found myself buying premium just to support the developers. Good Job Digital Extremes. You honestly deserve every penny you get. I will gladly keep paying premium if you guys can keep up with the content and keep me hooked on this game. 10/10 seriously.
One of the biggest things during early beta for me was the support team, it was encouraging to have non automatic responses when I sent a ticket to them for help.
DE is doing a brilliant job compared to ALL other community teams I have experienced since maybe 15 years of online games and MMOs. They should be proud to the point to bursting with how it is going.
They should give us the darkness 3 - please. Lmao. I didn't mind the cliffhanger game and its still one of my nostalgic games. With all that Warframe money and love the community, please give me Darkness 3.
I started playing Warframe a week ago and while the artstyle is very striking, something I really enjoy that I've yet to see mentioned is the sound design. The screams Grineer makes when you capture them, the language between Corpus soldiers or the screeching sound of MOAs (at least I think they're the ones making it) are all really cool.
Ha! I lied! It was a joke... not really. I had (minor) surgery (to remove my wisdom teeth) last week (Friday), and it hurts (this is true) to move (my mouth and face in general). I usually chat with friends while playing games and this takes the fun out of it.
The amount of people in the comments gushing about Space Mom has to say something about the admiration she has built up. The only other person I can think of with a similar type of respect from a gaming community is Jeff Kaplan. It's definitely something that can be studied and learned from.
Rebbeca Ford, AKA Space Mom, is as iconic as Excalibur, and one of the reasons the game became such a hit. I've never heard of a Community Manager so nice, caring and in touch with her community not only cuz she's an adorkably precious nerd beloved by the community but mostly just cuz of how genuine she is. . She should be a role model to the rest of the industry.
This video was made when TotalBiscuit was still alive. May he rest in peace. One of the fewest and foremost people on RU-vid who publicized D.E. :lotus: 💮🌸
I have 78 games on steam I only play Warframe most of the time because there is always something to do and get blueprints and components to get new FRAMES and that is like having a collection of new 1980's G.I.JOE figure action I loved :)
I have 350+ games on Steam and the thing I've been mostly playing for the past month is Warfarme. Signed up back in 2014, only recently started playing for real
Rebb is a treasure inside of a treasure (DE). It can't be overstated how much I appreciate the symbiotic work between them and the community and how much it benefits Warframe as a product.
This interview was fantastic. Excellent and well informed questions, as well as fantastic insight from Rebecca about her unique role at DE. Really am glad I found this channel, these are some brilliantly done documentaries and interviews. Keep up the good work!
I wanna say that if you do free to play right, you can get people like me who are willing to spend $480 half for the in game stuff, and half to support the devs.
Also about the you like what you see thing "cosmetics" Its a big pull to most of us because most games you see these days, or rather since the beginning of time specially mmos don't really give you the freedom of looking unique. most mmos will almost always have that one best gear that one bis weapon/armor that makes all end game players look the same. In warframe your free to change what you look, which gives players a feeling of belonging and satisfaction. One of the big things I love about warframe was you never really see the same looking tenno in a mission, one will always be vastly different from the other which gives a strong impression of identity.
Rebecca has been part of this great journey and however it may end, I and many other are grateful for the dev team and her. This game is and been many things. Not just entertainment, but a great experiment and a scientific study too. It created a huge community and a great time for those involved. Thank you.
Warframe is probably the most company and player interactive game in the market. D.E. Listens to its players and it shows in how it has developed. A lot of communication between the players and D.E. has caused Warframe to grow into the game it is today and D.E.'s choice to improve the game through listening to the community has helped this game. I am taking a 10 minute break right now from playing the game to write this. Warframe has improved by so much and will continue to prove b/c it listens to its community and isn't a pay to play game which makes it amazing and the humility it shows to the community also helps it grow and create loyal players. The other great thing about Warframe is that the community is extremely helpful to new players and we do our best to in a sense tutor new players. So Warframe's coolest and bravest step so far is The Plains of Eidolon and soon another open world game will be set up. So if you hear this interview and are curious please down load the game and if you have questions please ask anyone in the game b/c for the most part we the veteran community will do our best to explain the game to new players. Peace and much luck unto D.E. and the players.
27:01 basically the main complaints that I hear from the very loud minority, *"stop ading shitz and fix yo gaem"*, so many people doesn't realize that stopping the content flow mean that players will leave and play other games and wait until new content is made
The problem was, and what has me wandering away from the game time and time again, is that there's so many half formed ideas in game that are crammed together, but don't make a cohesive game. They do need to spend some time either polishing these systems to the standard that their movement and base combat systems are, or drop them. Archwing still feels like a chore to play, sharkwing is just a horrible experience, the tilesets are all still designed with parkour 1.0 in mind so there's all sorts of stuff to get stuck on (and don't get me started on infested corpus tilesets), kubrows/kavats still feel inferior to sentinels because of the loss of utility, boss designs have improved but almost all of the older bosses are (again) designed with older systems in mind, the new player experience hasn't kept up with the content (back when Warframe was released and even a good chunk after, that starting plat got you a decent % of what was available, Now, not even close), and all of these things don't actually intergrate all that well with the core gameplay loop, at all. Some of these problems have been in the game for literally years, but they haven't touched them. Every time they announce a new shiny, I come back hoping that they fixed some of the old problems, and end up playing for a couple of weeks playing their new shiny, but leave because it's another system/gimmick that doesn't address the issues with all these older systems. I'm reaching the point where I might not come back, because all they're doing is building higher and higher on a good foundation of fun combat, but abandon what they build to build higher instead of working on some of what they built.
They've had literal years to fix some of the content, but it's still in the same state it was after the initial 'fixes' that came out after the content's release.
The Devil How much time does one give them? That is a question that should be pondered. Having been here since the first day, I can attest that there have been many times where fixes were needed and took years to be implemented. Look at the biggest problem in WF to date; amour scaling. That has been in game since inception, and has yet to be fixed although it has been a known problem. The community should give them time, but the developers should also be aware of what are the pressing issues to be addressed.
Great interview. Hadn't watched any interviews or streams with anyone from DE before, well... apart from one Skill Up video where Rebb and Megan tried out Vegemite, so good haha. I'm pretty new to Warframe, it's great to learn a little more about the people behind the game.
Rebb Ford is among the finest community managers I've ever seen. I've never seen better than her and I'm scratching my head trying to remember anyone as good.
She's the absolute best at what she does. I'm not that into Warframe (it's been a slow, but steady pace, I'm getting there). But I came to know of it because of the praise aspects like their community and communication get. Their team is genuinely outstanding.
Got Grandmaster Founder's pack 5 years ago, haven't looked back. I've been proud to support this game, and plan to support it as long they keep it going. No game is ever perfect, but I'll always love Warframe. I've played DE games since the original Unreal, and I'm so, so proud of them for pulling of Warframe.
Look, its the Lotus! She's awesome, loved her way back when - when she/they started the dev livestreams etc. Glad everything is going so great for and the team at DE.
Thanks for uploading this. I love the back-and-forth between you two. Rebb had a lot of profound things to say (though she wouldn't agree). I love #WarFrame even more.
I'm not a player of Warframe but she did a great job here with the interview and also sounds like she is great at her job. Good luck! Love the genuine nervousness.
It really sounds like they care about the community. I started playing week ago because of the videos YongYea and Jim Sterling put out about how well they listen and communicate. Not alot of developers nowadays do that, and I think it is something special about the company. Great interview, and he asked alot of questions that I would have liked to ask.
I've been supporting Warframe since I played it on 2013, and I gotta say I never ever regret spending time and money on it. Thank you DE for this amazing game!
I'd really like to hear more from Scott; we see a lot from Rebb and Steve both in the documentary films and in their normal community interactions. More is good, but diversity might shed some light, especially for newer players, on Scott's role and importance to the game.
Brilliant insight Danny! /noclip delivers AGAIN! Really engaging interview and the Warframe community are in good hands with Rebb at the helm. #AwesomeSauce #KeepDoinIt
