See, I KNEW there was something up! I used to be a Quake 3 player so the speed and movement abilities of this game truly spoke to me, as like little to no other games. It is like a next step. Looking back, Quake 3 seems to be a very basic level of complexity, compared to WF. But has that same skill/movement enjoyment aspect of it. Even though it's still just a mindless basher, at its core :))

Ender Emporer ik, people back then are always about realistic concepts ... Which means, no space, no weird aliens, no demorphed weaponary and ultimately anti-gore ... Until the evolution of gaming industry like early Doom and CoD / BF ( and more progressive games towards sci-fi, zombies included ) changes the heart of people and make games what they are, a fictional world of infinite possibilities ... And yeah, wished I could support DE from the start of everything, but the bandwagon is still running ~

I know what's not gonna be different - it's still gonna be beta, focus 10.0 and damage 15.0 will suck even more than their predecessors, there will be a lot of new game modes that will be ridden with bugs, have shitty rewards, and will be pretty much a copy of one of the core game modes. But much, MUCH more bugged.
@tink5488
@tink5488 6 лет назад
I hope that they end up polishing things, but it seems they are only interested in creating new content - whether or not it actually 'works' is up in the air. Like, why bother announcing venus at tennocon when PoE is still buggy and has many performance issues not only for quests but basic functions? They should get all the kinks out of PoE first, so that venus actually works properly.. ya know. ON LAUNCH? I'm not so jaded as to think it's easy being a dev, I know otherwise, but being so forgiving of developers giving half baked content that 'sometimes works' on launch is unforgivable, free or not. Same with salvage and defection, instead of only going 'oh they don't like it lets move on' Make the damned modes fun to play with! Same with endless missions not having scaling rewards!

Total Warframe addict. The amount of Warframes alone is crazy. And then the Primes who are worth the upgrade. Last week i finally got Nidus, every time you think you found your main Warframe you discover one that's more fun to play. Oh and how about all the weapons, all with their own unique look and feel to them. I was a die-hard Destiny player, but the lack of depth and variety made me put down D2 pretty fast and made me hop right back into Warframe, just in time for the POE. Oh and don't get me started on my new addiction: fashion frame... Yup, they got me good.

Here are a few other things publishers have said in the past that proved to be wrong: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-18MqtJ7UD0M.html I've been PC Master Race for over 25 years, but popular, linear, single-player games got me to buy a piece of hardware that my PC utterly outclasses. The only I games I have on my PS4 (besides Warframe) are: Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, The Last of us Remastered, and Horizon Zero Dawn (I'd have a bought the PS4 just for that). 'Not popular' my ass. Just because publishers like EA have taken popular and profitable franchises, thought to themselves 'we can sell millions of the next installment too, and if we give it to a less experienced team, we can pay them less and save a fortune on the development, to make even more profit', and in the words of Steve 'bilked their customers', doesn't mean that linear single player games aren't wanted, only what that publisher does to them.

One can cleary see thanks to the Documental and the interviews how different are Digital Extremes developers when compared to other Devs in the gaming industry. This is the main reason why Warframe after 5 years is still alive and getting better and better while other companies with millions and millions in budget can't achieve the same results (you know what I mean).
@dragonquest8ftw1
@dragonquest8ftw1 6 лет назад
Sadly for other companies too far up their own ass, DE know what it's like to nearly go bankrupt and lose all rights of making games and they know that if they want to make their money then talking with the community is one of the best ways to go and know how to proceed forward.
@Aaron86v
@Aaron86v 6 лет назад
Watch their live-streams and you'll learn this pretty quickly. But most devs are actually just as passionate, the problem lies with the publishers that control how much time is given for the devs to show all their creativity. It sucks that devs always get the blame for literally everything when they can only control so much when they don't have the freedom they could have if they were independent like with Warframe. Very rarely do Publishers actually give the time and creativity for devs to make something they truly want. It's sad.

There are so many great people and aspects to Warframe. But, imho, THE reason Warframe is a successful game is because the items that exsist in the platinum market are also 90% obtainable in game and most of all tradeable between players, point blank. This is why the game continues to grow and is the smartest decision any developer has ever made. Love you DE, continue to take my money :)

Just look at Star Citizen. How can publishers still be so damned blind to the huge love for sci-fi games. There's obviously a massive market for it. The fact that publishers don't fund space games is the only reason people don't play as many of them. They're like "look how small the sci-fi market, that we don't fund, is". Well no shit Sherlock, how can a genre make money until someone actually makes those games.... So frustratingly short sighted, and it's what causes every publisher to pump out nothing but copies of the current trend and why we get so few truly unique games.

@SlabHardcheese
@SlabHardcheese 6 лет назад
Absolutely right! People who don't appreciate Sci-Fi (and science in general) are way too common, and often assume everyone else thinks the same. Notice how SciFi, Horror and Fantasy genres are often lumped into the same category for movies and books, etc (a pet peeve of mine). So that mindset prevails. Fortunately, the true enthusiasts are generally very supportive. Good science fiction takes a lot of careful thought and understanding of the real world around us. Zombie with shotguns book number 874 and Rune Magic with Dragons book #10,007 require no predictive imagination or understanding of anything much (like science) other than story telling. They can be great stories but have nothing to say about our future possibilities. I love scifi because of the imaginative ideas brought forth that have some kind of predictive connection with reality (physics, astronomy, etc). Warframe sits somewhere between scifi and fantasy IMO.
@akaimizu1
@akaimizu1 6 лет назад
I was quite peeved at the time, because I had a want for Sci-Fi gaming of a Diablo-style nature and publishers hardly ever touched it, though a few MMOs got out there but died quickly. Phantasy Star Online was one mainstay, but definitely had issues keeping up with timely updates (particularly in the West). Once SEGA pretty much gave up on the West, it seemed that the genre was up for us. Now we have a couple with Warframe being the leader. In some ways, as much as Warframe is a success story from the brink; Warframe also simultaneously could signify a success story for the Sci-Fi cooperative looter genre from the brink of its own. Obviously, publishers (including ones who had their own IPs in the genre) simply thought people (with similar interests to us) didn’t exist, so they just left those players out in the dark.

Miranda G it has nothing to do with that. Some of those business man actually said that the game was pretty good looking. There were a few problems; cod 4 mw-like games, fps about modern warfare, were the trend in those years, space was not, another problem is that, even if the game looks awesome and it can actually be good, if it launched at the wrong time, it will fail. Those business man couldn't predict the new sci-fi trend that was coming, or that a game as good looking warframe was could be actually actualized frequently.
@mirandag7668
@mirandag7668 6 лет назад
It's always about trends, unfortunately. Space is fuckin awesome, but 'no one wanted space' said all the dumbass producers that could have had a slice of that sweet Warframe pie. Without a doubt one of companies in the gaming industry which listens to players a lot, if not the most, when it comes to the state of the game. I started playing WF years ago and was awed on how much the game already changed over time. Do they always nail it? No - but they surely do take care of feedback. I recall one of my first experiences with WF was that updates were applied so often. I was/am in awe on how many times i see redtext for patch updates. In contrast to many other games - this game gets updated by the hour if required. The ethics, judging from this documentary, are beyond anything any other cash-grabbing company is able to uphold. I supported them with plenty of money - because i always felt it was value for money - the usual "go for a movie with popcorn" comparison is not even a thing over years. Having said that - the open world expension did not really grab me - too much grind - and i fear they are heading the wrong direction - then again - thats just me. But however the game develops i am confident Steve and Co will manage to turn it around Thanks Steve - admire your ethics! You are one of a kind and i wish gaming industry would follow in your footsteps!

I love that warframe has coop. Its so fun playing with friends, having fun without that competition-focus. The dojo is such a smart thing in the game! But also the personal spaceship, makes you have the options of designing stuff yourself and with others. Like the feeling of making stuff possible with others in the dojo. The movement in the gameplay is awesome. The mod-system is awesome. The option for storyline, openworld and classic map action is awesome. I started to play the game when two friends told me about it. I played it for free first, but when I understood the awesomeness I payed. I didnt pay because I needed to get further in the game, I payed because I wanted to help the developers. I think you should keep things in the game like they are and add things without change old stuff. People spend alot of time try to get a weapon they want. If an update comes and their gear get nerfed they will be sad. One sad person writing a story on a forum of how he lost his things after hours of work could be the death of the game. The new stuff seems so fun! Fight as a team against that big spaceship.

I remember trying Warframe in its earliest days. I was between jobs at the time so I could really devote time to it, but I gave up rather quickly because the progression felt extremely slow. It gave me that "pay to not be frustrated" feel you get from most mobile phone games. Five years later, Jim Sterling discovered Warframe and made me rediscover it. I've played almost daily since. A year later (today) I'm MR24 and have spent close to $100 on Warframe, none of which I regret. There's nothing I don't love about Warframe. I don't even have to spend money on it, I just do because it feels worth it, to a similar extent to a Netflix subscription or my VPN : those are things where I feel I'm really getting my money's worth. The collaborative aspect probably explains why the community is so helpful. I've never been on nicer chats with total strangers in any MMO. That too is incredibly lovely in this day and age. Stay true, DE, and I'll always have your back. We all lift together ;-)

Watching these videos and seeing these developers as people and how transparent they are, really makes me want to log back in and play out of sheer appreciation for what they stand for. The devs from these interviews and I know its a shared sentiment across the company is that they care about the players and they do not want to take advantage of them or screw them over

I started playing 5 years ago, so right around the time this was made. In a few days, the 2023 TennoCon will celebrate 10 years of Warframe. Ten years, and going strong, because DE is dedicated to the Warframe community like no other game developer has really ever been. Congratulations to Steve and everyone at DE!

Warframe truly does have a community made wiki which contains some almost essential information that you can't find written in the game itself. Stuff like how the different damage types work, the different types of armour that enemies have, their resistance to certain damage types, the differences between physical and elemental damage (additive vs multiplicative). So much more..

When he described the story telling that it’s like dark souls I damn nearly shouted in amazement cuz I hope he would say that and he did I remember in dark souls 2 I never heard of this game but it looked cool first 30 minutes in I HATED it and almost took it back but then I kept coming back and did research and after FINALLY beating the first area and then the first boss everything just clicked and I became a part of this amazing universe of cool lore and awesome boss fights it’s now slated for me my most FAVORITE game of all time and that’s exactly what’s happening with warframe for me the more I play and uncover the secrets and lore of it the more I’m loving it I will support this company to the ends of the earth

(18:40 ish) For years could never figure why there wasn't more science-fantasy action games. This video has finally given me an answer, thanks. What's sad is its such a simple & annoying stupid yet futterly predicable reason. Major publishers are scared of new ip's.

I think I was there on the Steam launch, I recall seeing it and thought it looked kinda cool, was free too and I was a broke f2p high school kid. Played for like 3 or 4 years and then stopped just before the Plains of Eidolon released. Came back every now and again for updates but didn't stay long. Just started playing again and been playing for about a week and half.
