⭐ Most of the Warhammer 40,000 stories go down in the 42nd millennium, which is like way, way into the future (around 39,000 years from now, to be exact). Even though it's mostly a sci-fi thing, Warhammer 40,000 throws in some cool fantasy vibes like magic, supernatural beings, getting possessed by demons, and having fantasy races like orcs and elves. They've got these folks called "psykers" who are basically the wizards of the story. The game's setting borrows a bunch of fantasy stuff from Warhammer Fantasy, which is another game from Games Workshop. And guess what? Warhammer Fantasy got its start with the whole Dungeons & Dragons scene. Games Workshop used to whip up tiny models for Dungeons & Dragons, and Warhammer Fantasy was kind of like their way of saying, "Hey, buy more of our miniatures!" And get this, Warhammer 40,000 was born as a sci-fi version of Warhammer Fantasy.
