Play On team: this content is so rad. Please keep going. My friends and I don't even play 40K and we're really enjoying this content. This is my first RU-vid comment ever after years of lurking just to say: MORE PLEASE. This is better than sports, twitch or marble racing.
Jesus Christ this channel has become the golden standard of 40k battle reports.. I mean, the production value is off the f***ing roof!! If you could only release videos slightly - just slightly - more quickly, we will be eternally grateful
Speaking as someone who played as CSM for two years in 8th, you saw how Gulliman and the boys got upgrades and refills for days? If you were basic CSM you had to make due with basically the basic buffs only, with a limited Firstborn marine roster, and for basically until Psychic Awakening a limited stratagem pool and scrappy traits. What good stuff we had usually needed a good chunk of the list dedicated to it, like daemon engines and Obliterators. Hateful Volleys/Assault helped at least quite a way, and the upcoming two wound base buff for firstborn marines will help too stop the weapon rebalance and to a lesser degree the aura changes curbing some of the gulliman shenanigans
@@Metalmachine18 I think the problem is not that chaos is bad. It’s that everything else is getting much better. Im a recent player starting in 8th but a Doomsday Ark one shots most heavy units like Repulsors, Onager Dunecrawlers, Trygons, and much more! Also Chaos Space Marines and Chaos in general (except for nurgle) promote really high risk high reward gameplay. Which is fun I love that kind of game play, but unless you’re Khorne you don’t get the best melee units. Like against most armies oh boy in melee combat you will kick but, other armies like Tyranids and Orks do it better... Oh yeah and the whole Necrons have a antitank weapon that can one shot almost every vehicle in the game but is almost impossible to kill with anti tank weapons that only costs 193 points.
dude that's BS.. I play Marines against lot of forces, got myself tabled by tyranids quite a few times. You can say I'm a shit player, but I'd argue my list is quite solid. I watch a lot of channels and see marines beaten time and again, by Crons, by Tyranids, Orks. Those aren't top tier armies.. Marines are a good army, but I'm tired of hearing the same old complaints every time they do well.
‘Dude’ it’s not. I’ve been playing this game for 30 years and marines have ALWAYS had an advantage. If your being tabled by nids regularly in any edition other than 5th........ Marines are the reason I have Minotaurs..... to kill other marines. Combat doctrines and primaris have only made them harder to kill in new editions.
@@jasonwarwick5062 are you kidding me? before the space marine codex vol2, they sucked. There where barely any stratagems you could use. Tau, Eldar wiped the floor with marines, there was no chance. If you brought marines. The opponent had to tailor the list to even give you a chance. Only viable'ish way to play was to run Ultramarines + Guilliman castle and/or very FW heavy. How about 7 th edition again their vehicles had no invuns or jink, they blew up left and right. Unlike battlesuits and wraith constructs or other hovercraft
Ohh man, using almost that whole turn to then not bring down the Guilliman hurt my soul. Well fought though, it looked worse than it was until the end. Good editing as always production guys.
GREAT match. JT, I was rooting for you the whole time, my heart broke when you couldn't take down the Primarch. You had some dope plays, well done to both players.
I’m really curious what Jim’s headcanon for how the Souldrinkers acquired Primaris Marines was, that’s a lore aspect I’ve been thinking about for my own questionably loyalist homebrew chapter
Could just be that primaris on the table top are closer to the size and effectiveness of actual marines in lore. And even then aren't strong enough lol
I have a painted Soul Drinkers Army that is all Primaris. My headcanon is that the chapter was wiped out, Sarpedon went to the Warp, and the chapter was enshrined on the walls of the Phalanx. Cawl revived it for the Indomitus Crusade, and the chapter master is the only surviving Soul Drinker who was on the Deathwatch during the time of their conflict.
My custom made Sons of Echidna (Alpha legion) had data from heresy stolen from raven guard (Deliverance lost book), some info from Fabius Bile and some stolen plans from Cawl (acqured after some victories at games agains CSM and AdMech). Thus they were able to create their own breed of bigger meanier marines. And then they were able to secure some storages and forges on planet where our campaigns take place. On the other hand it would be easier to make a forgery of order from Cawl - with some free shipping :D
Are there any incoming vids with the imperial guard? I’m new and I watch these to learn how to play different factions. (And for entertainment) Great battle report keep it up!
i dont even play tabletop, but this has brought some understanding to me of the local game shops i used to see as a kid in the 90s and 00s. they had the tabletop setups, but i never knew what was taking place. this channel has made 40k seem cool and exciting to people like me who are outsiders.
I really love seeing good Xenos armies. I got into the hobby by starting as a kid with SM myself, a lack of cool opponents that feel natural fighting each other as common enemies easily kills the feel and narrative aspect (Unless you are the Inquisition, they can find a reason to kill ANY other faction, especially other inquisitors). We need more people to play non-Imperium factions so there is someone to have epic battles with!
Hey u can make a reason why two imperium armys are going to battle like some dark angles are trying to keep an area of a random planet secret but a battalion of the adeptus mechanicus are doing research so the secretive dark angles are battling the nosey ad mech. Idk but its totaly do able with some creative lore reason
@@nice-um7fc Of course it is *possible* but if 7 out of 10 people showing up to an event play Space Marines, it's far less interesting, natural and narrative
@@nickkohlmann It is pretty boring going against straight imperium. Fun to have more nids but when it comes to competitive stuff they arent that good. Same with dark eldar but we got new edition that will hopefully balance things out like that.
Great, great battle-report, I'm loving it since this show began. What I realized, whenever someone plays against Marines, I always think "wow, they rolled so bad." But that's actually because marines has so many re-rolls... other armies need to use their CPs to sometimes re-roll hits and wounds but as Marines has always re-rolls, they actually only need to use their CPs when they need it most. I hope this changes in 9th edition, in Warhammer Fantasy 8th, Elves re-rolling everything was also a problem but this is bigger: Marines bank so many CPs!
So far as we can tell, marines will have more CP to play with, and with the new action system, are more incentivized than ever to take those re roll characters that no other faction has. However, now the CP re roll no longer works on a lot of stuff, so space marines will probably be using more strategems than ever.
@@nathanieleck1023 the nerf to captains being limited to one per detachment will also limit how much cp marines will have. Normally, marines take 2 captains for hq choices but now its going to cost cp.
This has become my favorite 40k channel the production and players are great. My favorite part of the channel is I feel like I can experience the whole game with important dice rolls that give suspense and hearing the players tactics and thought process in a well edited and concise format. Keep up the great work can't wait to see more games in 9th!
Absolutely pumped for this! I only discovered your channel a few weeks ago but by the bald head of Chaplain Cassius your content is absolutely top notch! I collected Space Marines, Tyranids and Tau back in ~1999/early 2000s and you have helped me to rediscover my love for this game and world. I hammered Dawn of War, Chaos Gate and other wh40k games but yours is by far the best 40k RU-vid content I have ever experienced. Thank you! PS. If you ever need an extra voice or narrator from across the pond, I would be honoured to collaborate with you. Play On!
@@PlayOnTabletop I've just finished the episode and it was beautifully presented. I've watched all of your battle reports and they were honestly brilliant from the get-go but now your vids are incredibly refined. Great job! - I will absolutely drop you line :)
I honestly think that this is the best battle report channel. Some of the other channels talk too much about unrelated things. They don't edit and cut things. This battle report is amazingly produced and straight to the point. Good camera angles too.
The early game looks really cool storywise - aeldari raider rushing and encircling the space marines. I'm going through some tough times with deep depression and you guys are always giving me something to look forward to. Thank you and really amazing job on the video as usual.
Been really enjoying watching these - haven't played 40k in 20 years but I'm still gaming in other areas. Hats off to the whole crew that put this together, and thanks from the UK!
What a superb battle report! 2 amazing players with gorgeous models! I really like the fact that the aeldari soup army showcases all 4 factions, and the ravagers and raiders look great! Play on Tabletop really do make the best battle reports on RU-vid!
You guys produce the best 40k Battle Reports. I watch many channels on this stuff and you guys come out with a clear lead. Production is top notch and I love that you condense down into 30-40 min highlights. Also I appreciate that you work to include some narrative/thematic elements into your games. Some other channels seem really jaded when they play and I ask myself, "why are you even playing?". Keep up the good work.
I love the soul drinkers color scheme! Honestly this is my favorite 40k channel for watching tabletop games for production quality and the variance in different factions, like the soul drinkers and fanmade models. Really great stuff!
Again, every time I am simply mind blown by how much time and dedication you are puting on your video editing. But it results in fast paced and fun to watch battle reports with tons of visual aids.
This is the best vid so far, and all the previous were outstanding. Major props for making it easy to follow. Also, JT and Jim are great players to watch. Good job team!
Love the editing in these, love the end credits, love the shooting animation, love the knowledgeable players and fast paced turns. What amazingly well put together content all around. keep up the great work!
Oh man, what a fight. Thank you so much for your great efforts and games. Your channel boosts the game to maximum. The 40k in 40m format is so great and makes it so easy to follow and experience such a great battle. I totally encourage you to keep on track - you guys are awesome and your work needs to be shown to way more people!! May the Emperor, beloved by all, protect you!
A really close and entertaining match. I really love your battlereports, entertaining, informative and just gorgeous to look at in regards to editing, effects and music. Not to mention the consistency in getting good and very sporting players. It's just more fun to watch, when the players play fair *and* enjoy themselves. Good job guys, hope you stay safe and healthy in these times :) Greetings from Germany!
This is more esportish content than most official esport channels on twitch or other content platforms. Really glad about every single upload. You guys rock
Really love the paint job on the Aeldari. The starbursts are really striking and the nebula's are beautiful. I've been trying to improve my own space-theme'd painting skills with little success.
Definitely one of my favorite matches I've watched on this channel so far. JT, you're a badass. I've learned a lot from watching you play your Aeldari (Drukhari) armies. Thanks man.
I really love the narrative element at the start. It's not a huge amount, but it doesn't have to be. Just a little bit of context to the match is entertaining.
9 wounds so he can hide behind stuff and does not degrade, a 2+/3++ and ress on 4+ is probably the cheesiest unit in the entire game. So glad you can't re roll his ress in 9th ed
He is powerful but he's been nerfed a bit by both rules being downgraded and points being raised. He is still strong but he's not dominating like he was
I mean, don’t get me wrong, he’s a very strong unit, but at over 300 points, he’s certainly a pricey character. There are much, much more cheesy units in the game of 40k, admittedly, most of them space marines. Guilliman is super strong, and is really, really hard to remove, but he doesn’t clear hordes, and isn’t super fast. He can decimate a battle line, but he’s no leviathan dreadnought.
the Covid handshake got a laugh out of me. I was so relieved when Guilliman died, JT wanted that so bad. I say that as a 2nd Company Ultramarines player. 10/10 content as always.
It was nice to see Jim showing more confidence here. I noticed he seemed to have a hard time keeping eye contact and speaking up last time he was on, but he was doing much better this time around. And of course it's good to see JT actually get in front of the camera and play. As much as I like your commentaries, I hope we get to see more of you playing too in season 3!
The Dice did not like JT, and it was hilarious how the narrator sounded almost surprised and amazed every time he said JT did something right tactically, like he never thought he would actually do that.
SOUL DRINKERS ARE SO GREAT! Astounding work, hard fought on all sides, you guys utterly rock! For whatever you hold dear, the Emperor, the Chaos Gods, the Greater Good, please keep up the great work!
Bruh I saw Astartes and I was thinking it's gonna be another boring basic chapter. Then I saw it was my boys the Soul Drinkers! They look absolutely amazing! I love it when people play with obscure chapters in this game. It actually makes it interesting. I also love to see that someone else also likes the Soul Drinkers!
Building a soul drinkers army, thinking I'll play them as blood angels. People say that they should be Imperial Fist, but Soul Drinkers doctrine isn't seige. It's drop pods and getting within bad breath distance.
Man I so wanted this one to go just a little longer was rooting for JT! I’m so glad I randomly stumbled upon this channel a couple of days ago I don’t actually play 40K but I really want to now, love these battle reports they are sooo well done. Need more!
Absolutely love watching these, it's really helped me with learning the game. Pretty soon here I'll be taking my own army out to play but until then this will do
As always the quality of these videos is supreme. Most certainly the best batreps on youtube. Sad to see 8th go but understandable as by the time season 2 wraps up people will be disinterested in the old edition. Still a great way to see it go.
These videos are the best! You guys should do some old school battles from the older editions of 40k, 5th edition holds a place in my heart and would love to see the evolution
As many of us have played since 2nd edition that is possible. We are still relatively small as far as a studio goes so might be something that takes a while to get to but we would love to try it.
It should be noted, JT's army isn't legal by battleforge, as Ynnari and Aeldari are the only keywords shared by the members of the third bat (the Ynnari one). Which breaks the battleforged rules for 8e as those fail to qualify the detachment per the "Battle Brothers" rule.
Nobody else is doing it like you guys. Keep it up! These are so great and I can’t wait to see your battles in 9th. Also, I would like to request some more imperial guard on the channel!
Are we able to get some cybernetic AdMech action soon? My friends and I have just started getting into 40k and we're loving the high quality "tv-show" feel! The most digestible, consumable battle reports on RU-vid, the brilliant commentary and editing boost this series ahead of any competition by a massive amount. Definitely a must watch for new players.
JT - you are the definition of the HAPPY WARRIOR! What a fun battle between good sportsmen. Love the channel, guys. Have you thought about using your top-down viewpoint to show melee effects, too? Simple slashes and such. Perhaps a zoomed in shot with overlaid effects, paired with your summary windows, could help us to imagine the combat there as well.
I waited for so long this episode and today worth it every second! Incredible Match and those armies was beautiful, especially that Renegade Army,i really thank you guys for bring this awesome Battle Report Series,JT Was a incredible Strategist and Jim was an absolute Emperor's Executor, you guys are awesome!
