Note on the Warrant. The original ones, the best ones, aren't assigned by the imperium at all, they were assigned by the Emperor himself and as such a Rogue Traders authority is above many of the imperiums systems.

The emperor usually signed them with his own blood, making them a holy relic as well.
@playwars3037

And afterwards a fair few were signed by Primarchs during the Scouring. Doesn't have the ridiculous level of clout as having a warrant blood signed by god, but close enough. It doesn't technically grant more authority, but with the mess of Imperial politics just the appearance of the implicit support of the Emperor or His primarch is often enough to tilt the scales. Besides, it makes things easier with the eclisiarchy, so long as they don't start asking for the warrant to be moved to a shrine world.

Tau use the warp as well Splattercat, though without navigators or psykers they're limited to very shallows "skips" along the outer boundaries. So their warp travel is rather inefficient. However, their lack of a warp footprint means that daemons usually aren't interested anyway. The only "true" FTL travel in Warhammer 40,000 belongs to the Necrons. The Warp is anathema to them, so they don't use it. They have a network of "Dolmen Gates" which function a little like the webway, except they don't use the warp. And their starships use some unknown kind of inertialess drive to travel faster than light. Much more reliable than Warp travel, but quite a bit slower unless it's over relatively short distances.
@Washeek

40K lore can be pretty fun. The human faction literally believes that there are spirits in all the machines that need to be prayed to with rituals and incense, which are mixed in with legitimate maintenance that would actually work on machines according to real world knowlege. The funny thing though, as far as I can tell it's not been made clear whether or not the machine spirits are actually real in the universe. Sometimes it seems not and only the scientific parts of the rituals as we would know them have any effect. In other circumstances, it seems as if the prayers actually coax something out of the machines with no scientific explanation for it.

What made Rogue Trader stand apart from the other Dark Heresy offshoots is that you play imperial nobility and their retinue. The PCs command a lot more resources than in any other Warhammer RPG. As imperial nobility, they can use personal gear and enjoy luxuries other DH characters could only dream of. You have a dang imperial spaceship with 20.000 crew as your shared starting gear. The game plays like a freewheeling merchant-explorer sandbox where you decide where to go (within your particular Warrant) and try to engage in planetary-scale projects. You fund your own colony worlds and each one adds to the economic weight of your dynasty. The biggest addition in rules mechanics was the addition of space combat on capital ship scale where you had to manouer your spacecraft and blast people with boarding torpedoes and lance batteries. You designed your ship, handled crew loyalty, each PC worked a number of stations on board.

For one thing, characters have more health in this game. The action economy is also different. Whereas tabletop tracked free actions, half actions, and full actions, here you have 4 Action Points. Also, this game has a momentum mechanic that FFG’s games do not. Therefore, knowledge of tabletop doesn’t seem to be all that important. 18:40. On the contrary, the techpriest might actually be tankier than your other units, given that he would be highly augmented and mostly machine, especially if he is of senior rank. IMO the best fate you could get is to be born in a noble house or under them. There is also the military path where you try to rise above the ranks and be part of an elite squad and hope that you perform well enough to get noticed by the top brass, a Rogue Trader, or the local Nobility.

being SM sucks big time; those behemoths are religious zealots not much different than Chaos SM. im a bit rusty, but didnt they wipe out personality when they turned people into servitors? if they didnt servitors sucks big time, just like being SM dreadnought. i'd prefer to serve under Lord Castellan than being turned into 8ft tall fanatic :P .

Space Marine isn't a good fate, assuming you survive the process which turns you into one (most dont) you end up as a being who, whilst physically strong and durable, has had all the inconvenient parts of their personality and humanity removed, it varies from Chapter to Chapter but in general anything that isn't useful in battle (e.g. any emotion that isn't anger) is removed or suppressed, and then you are thrown again and again into the toughest fights in a galaxy that is always at war. In the heresy books, ordinary humans initially find space marines unnatural and disturbing, and that's because they are, the look like people, but they aren't. And that's before you get into the whole Primarchs are probably Greater Daemons and the gene seed that forms space marines and is part of the Primarch is probably all a little bit warp-y

you said a Bolter is 7mm, its 0.75 Cal, so 3/4 of an inch more like 17mm, Launched like a grenade with a low explosive charge, and propelled forwards by a solid fuel rocket engine so it keeps accelerating after it leaves the barrel, the armor piercing tip hides a mass reactive explosive warhead that detonates once it is inside the target

While I don't have time I used to, Baldur's Gate style games still hold a place in my heart; I loved Fantasy Flight's take on 40K better than Game's Workshop's most of the time, and that might be the single manliest protagonist I have seen in a long time.

10:03 Common misunderstanding. Tau TOO travel through warp. Eldar (from one of Craftworld), which created them in current image, drop on their travel route faster-than light engine. This engine let you do controled dive in Warp on its superficial layer.

Small detail about the warp travel: Tau actually travel using the Warp. They just skim it, don't jump deep enough, like skipping a stone over a lake. Only the Eldar and the Necron don't actually traverse inside the warp at all. Each has their own technology for FTL.
@Docktavion
@Docktavion Год назад
Yeah the tau can go deeper but don’t have the giant flashlight and mindset to utilise it to the fullest. New lore as Necrons using the eldar webway now ☹️by breaching this sealed realm via dolmen gates.

Pretty sure you meant bolters are .75 caliber (which is 19mm), although I disagree with any "bolters are this caliber" claims (despite official GW sources) as in the canon there are numerous patterns of bolters of unspecified, but suggested to have differing caliber AND case length. I mean, some bolters can be fired by measly humans while other bolters seem to weigh as much as a car engine, with recoil that would tear a human's arms off, all that is to suggest that "bolters" have a very wide degree of different calibers and charge. I don't disagree that your everyday Adepta Sororitas Godwyn-De'az, Mars Scourge, Locke or Enforcer bolter is probably the standard .75cal, but something like an Adeptus Astartes Artifex, Executor or Cawl bolter is probably much, much bigger.

Bwahaha - Two most numerous comments: 1 - Bolters are not 7mm caliber, but .75 inch 2 - Tau do use the warp, just differently Yes arguing about in lore technicalities. Love it. Never change 40k fandom, never change... Also y'all are technically farther from the truth than Splat. Godwin pattern standard astartes bolters are .75 caliber, this one is most probably Godwyn-De'az pattern for Sisters of Battle and other non-enchanced human use. They are stated to be of a smaller caliber. Also, that's not a melta cannon, that's a melta gun. The cannon variant is titan sized. Also, yes, that navigator is just running around shooting people, that's how the original TTRPG rolls, deal with it. Also, that's the infamous station Footfall. It's technically located outside of Imperial space and so is a pretty lawless place, you would want to bring your arsenal with you. Also... Love the lean into the roleplaying Splat, very lore-accurate. Man I'm hyped.

Former Rogue Trader player here... yeah this looks like the old FFG Rogue Trader RPG system they're using. Surprised they're using that instead of Wrath and Glory but yeah, that's the lifepath system they used in Rogue Trader to justify the higher power level over Dark Heresy. I see they're also using the Kronus Expanse setting that Fantasy Flight Games made for the RPG. That can get... interesting very quickly depending on where the campaign goes.

imagine trying to explain how to use the warp to travel to someone who has never heard of 40k, "you have these people who's head are jacked into the navigation of the ship and they have to use their psyke power to find a stable enough path through basically hell using navigational markers like a big light house that may or may not be visible. Then the ship has to use a massive amount of energy to rip open a hole in reality to jump into hell then fly through it at near light speed and hope their path doesn't get messed up. Oh and they may end up where they were trying to go and the may end up there on time but they also could end up in the middle of no where or thousands of years after they initially jumped. Oh and some people die just from trying to go through the warp because their brains just can't handle it."

5:17 I would just like to say, this was a missed opportunity right here. How amazing would it have been to have 2 options instead, where you are basically making said final decision of "taking on the candidate" where the first option is to accept candidate into new position (confirm character) and a second option to "deny requisition"? (go back and make a new character)
