I loved this game and I keep hoping and wishing for a new 3D Wario just a new modern wario land also you should've mentioned that the final boss had more phases on the japanese release and the rainbow bean bastards are what's needed to get the best ending
@@helpcryinggato5987 that's sad, id rather have something new and fresh like a Wario game every once in a while instead of another Zelda game... I like link but we don't NEED a new Zelda game every 2 years, that's how people get tired of franchises! Just look at what happened to assassins' creed a few years ago... again i aint hating on link but they can slow up on it a bit with the ports (4-5 ports this year like wtf) meanwhile Wario, Metroid, Star fox, F- Zero, Donkey Kong, & Bayonetta fans are just left out in the cold staving for 8+ years between games it's just not cool :/
@@aidensnew8562 while that is true, legend of zelda is more popular than all of those franchises. greater demand is met with greater supply. i do agree that the smaller franchises shouldn't have to wait that long tho
Wario is a intricate character that I think young and old alike can relate to on a deep emotional level, and it’s shown no better then in this game think about this first off people and wario both love collecting money And that’s it
You mean you don’t beat the crap out of weird creatures and pirates to collect gold? You don’t sit in your castle throne while laughing at your money for no apparent reason? What are you even doing with your life!?
I have a love/hate relationship with Nintendo's formulaic franchise fixation. On the one hand, they can polish the crap out of tried and true formulas and give us amazing titles like Dong Freeze and Kirby Drives a Robot. On the other hand, they're terrified of failure, and cling to what worked so hard that they lose sight of what made the old games fun to begin with. Just because I love the koopalings doesn't mean I enjoy fighting them as the same main bosses every game. Just because I love Star Fox 64 doesn't mean every new game needs to rehash its plot and setting.
Wario Land’s also had its fair share of really odd, memorable, and often unsettling bosses. Wario Land 4’s bosses in particular are have always stuck out to me with their grotesque, detailed spritework. There’s also Shake It’s bosses which were much less unsettling in comparison but had music that plays during a lot of them that sells a more tense atmosphere than you’d expect from most modern Nintendo platformers, it was a neat change of pace.
This game is underrated as hell. It was such a weird game (like a lot of games on the GameCube), but that was why I enjoyed it so much. They need to bring the weirdness back, and maybe, if we're lucky, Wario World 2 baybeeeeeee!!
All jokes aside, Wario is very underrated. His games are much better than Mario because it doesn't look copied and pasted, let alone it having a very unique story in concept.
Truly an underappreciated treasure of a game. Like you mentioned, really is a shame this concept barely scratched the surface with its potential for something fresh. I'm just glad it's one of many reasons I keep going back to Gamecube with its fruitful times and not needing too much gimmicks to define how well a game franchise does. Really hoping we can get back to this sort of era again.
Why can't we have bosses like the ones in these games? They're crazy and insane and actually interesting in design instead of reused models seen in too many games
The Japanese version of the game was released a year after the international versions, so it had more development time spent fixing & polishing it. So yeah, the Japanese got the definitive fat Italian pile-driving experience! Such as a new final boss phase & funky new theme to go with it!
I want to go back to the early 2000s where nintendo had franchises like Pikmin, F-Zero, and Metroid. I wish they would experiment as much now like how they did with the gamecube.
Great stuff all around! I may have never played Wario World, but I love Greenhorn Forest to death and have had lyrics for it written up in my head for years now. 2:56 We'll keep our eyes on you.
12:25 when Wario falls down to broke hell, the guide says “if you fall, you’ll go broke” The game doesn’t care if you’re alive or dead, it only cares about the amount of money Wario has
It is surprising how the enemies in Wario games are completely original and doesn't just stick with generic Mario enemies like Goombas, Koopas, Boos, Bullet Bills, etc.
That's not surprising at all, considering Wario and his games were made by a very different team within Nintendo. Miyamoto and his Mario/Zelda crew had nothing to do with Wario's creation.
The level Pecan Sands was such an ordeal to collect all items in. And you even need 6 out of 8 red crystals to be able to enter the door to the boss! And apparently from what I've heard, there are still people who are hoping for a Wario World 2 up to this day!
I would absolutely ADORE a new WarioWorld (or even a new Land at this point). Beat 'em up fits Wario's brutish nature so perfectly, and a sequel with improved combat mechanics and enemy variety would be a dream come true, but sadly it's never gonna happen because Nintendo is very protective of their IP's that they don't like to do anything with.
Wario world is my very first ever Mario related video game alongside DK country Jungle Beat. Despite being a villain character in some Mario games, I'm really biased when it comes to Wario lol. He has a place in my heart. And I was like frickin three years old when I started playing video games. The PSP, N64 and GameCube were my fist consoles lol.
fun fact that not too many know the US version of Wario World came out first so when the Japanese version of the game was rolling out, they did some updates to the game, like glitch fixes, skips blocked off, that sorta thing but they also changed the final boss now the amount of Sprites to free is 8, and after half the boss fight, the Gem then drops that method of attack and now becomes MUCH more agressive by attacking with shockwaves, ramming, and spawning HUNDREDS of wooden barrels that wario can break for coins, health or Bombs so the Final boss is much better in the japanese version if they ever rerelease this game I hope its that updated version
That wooden chest 'attack' never made any sense. They don't knock you off the edge of the arena, and you can just get endless garlic and coins from them. Clearly the Black Jewel wasn't supposed to be a very challenging final boss. More of a chance at Wario getting revenge.
This game looks really good. While I don’t have a Gamecube, I do want to play Wario Land: Shake It for the Wii, that game looks good as well from what I’ve seen, especially with the 2d style.
Very very good video but I just wanna point out 2 things really quick: 1. The Japanese version has a more fulfilling ending. 2. You need to play Wario Land 3 and 4.
The jp version of the final boss is a lot better. He shows cracks when you’re punching him, and has a brand new chaotic second phase when his hp reaches half.
This is why I'm so excited for the pokemon Arceus game. It's probably going to have a lot of problems, but it's something different and a step in the right direction. I hope legends becomes a whole series alongside the traditional pokemon games.
Part of the reason all the boss/enemy designs are so strange and why the game itself is such a large departure from the Wario Land series (aside from the shoulder tackle) is because the game was made by Treasure, the studio behind Mischief Makers
Sex: -Requires a partner -Boring and forgettable soundtrack -Awkward when the family walks in Wario World -Has a single player option -Catchy and memorable soundtrack -Perfect for the whole family
Unless your family's religious, of course. I remember one bloke talking about how his parents would cringe every time he quoted Wario and the subject of greed. Heheh.
So glad I got to experience playing Wario World when I was younger. I really do wish Nintendo will revive these underrated franchises. I love Mario, Zelda, and all the other trending franchises that Nintendo keeps making games on (Pokemon, Kirby, Splatoon 3, etc.), but there's so much potential for the other franchises. The Wario Land/World series, Donkey Kong, Starfox, Kid Icarus, and any other neglected series that I didn't mention (1:39), should definitely be given SOME SORT of acknowledgement or spotlight. We would all love to see at least one of these franchises reappear in some form. Let's hope for the future! You never disappoint Al! :D
I'm so happy you talked about this game. One of my all time favorite games, some times every now and again each year I just play the game again and go through a few bosses (the bosses really were the best part for me). Always killed me thinking of a Wario World 2 and what could've been. Thank you for bringing up this game and giving it the love it deserves :)
My parents bought this for me when I was like 9. I wasn’t picky with vidya back then, and I took the time to beat almost any game I got. To this day, Wario World is probably my third favorite game, and my second favorite for the GameCube after Twilight Princess. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that people are talking about this game now.
Oh my god, I have exactly one memory of this game. My babysitter had it and fell asleep for hours on the couch. I just kept farming coins because I loved the repetitive combat as a kid. So by the time he woke up, I must have had thousands.
Wario World is legitimately, no joke, one of my favorite games I've ever played. Gotta say Top 3. It's an unusual opinion, but I just dig the music, visual style, and boss designs so fucking much. Combat can be repetitive but it never stops feeling satisfying as well to beat up baddies. I so wish they gave 3D Wario another try, but hell we'd be lucky to even get a new Wario Land since Shake It seemed to flop. At least Nintendo was *somewhat* promoting Wario World for a while. Two songs from this game got remixed in Power Tennis, and the Greenhorn Forest theme was remixed for DDR: Mario Mix. Also, Greenhorn Ruins was remixed for Shake It and used for the level Glittertown.
Would any of you believe that the Japanese version of Wario World, is a more complete version of the game? The best example for this is that the final boss has a second phase, and it's a freaking hand to hand rumble.
the weird thing is that i remember this game, but forgot to play it in years. last thing i remember was beating a baby doll boss and then i just faded away in life. thanks Al, i may finish this game sometime soon :)
Thank you so much for brining awareness to this gem from my childhood. I didnt have many Gamecube games but goddamnit this Treasure Developed platformer beatem-up starring Wario was a proud part of my collection!
Yes, the combat does seem repetitive with the same enemies you fight. But there are original enemies later on in the game to spice things up starting with the 2nd world.
I loved this game. I didn't have as many problems as you seemed to have, even got stream vods for proof, but that's because I understood Wario wears banana slippers.
I have been a big fan of this game since it came out when I was a kid, evidently I made an HD texture pack for it last year for dolphin, it's on my channel for anyone interested in wanting to experience it. This game has a lot of missed potential, I've always thought that this could've been 100x cooler if like a traditional brawler you could buy new moves or items with the absurd amounts of cash you get or if the game had at least 2 more worlds it would be the perfect length
Honestly I was expecting let's plays with friends but I really like these kinds of videos and because you caught my attention talking about a game that I didn't know about but was some how familiar and I came here thinking that I was just gonna see some haha funny but it was something different with some haha funny sprinkled in, I'm gonna bing watch everything later, this channel probably will stay small for a few years but I'm still gonna enjoy every video if they come out with the same quality as this one, Thanks and see you in the next one
I took one look at those platform challenges and got some major Sunshine flash backs. what was it with Nintendo nor knowing how to program physics in that era?
