Wario World Retrospective - Treasure's Hidden Treasure 

Hey all! I know the audio on this video is a bit rougher than usual, and I apologize for that. I was recovering from strep throat and a sinus infection (at the same time) when I recorded this. I wanted to take more time off, but sadly you can't really "call in sick" when it comes to content. I hope you enjoy regardless!

The reason that the Japanese version's final boss has a second phase is actually because the US version of the game was finished first. Playtesters found the final boss boring and repetative, so the developers added the second phase for that exact reason.

6:24 You say that, but I would personally love to see a game where Wario finds himself in the middle of a super serious, emotional Final Fantasy story and he just Warios all over it.

The thing I like most about Wario world is that it canonized that if Wario encountered a haunted doll, he would suplex and piledrive it until it either stop moving or stoped existing, which ever came first.

You gotta love how no matter how disturbing the bosses Wario’s first reaction is- IMMA NUMBER ONE! No fear, no hesitation, just sheer determination and grit.

You have it a bit confused, the Gameboy link adapter functionality was used to send WarioWare demos to the Gameboy, no cartridge required. And, believe me, when you're a 6 year old kid with 2 GBA games stuck at your cousin's house waiting for them to get home from school, you'll take any extra games you can get.

Wario world definitely channels that same energy that the Kirby franchise seems to get away with in the fact that underneath the cutesy/tame stuff is some genuinely dark and just plain bizarre plot development and character designs.

I grew up on the GameCube during the early 2010s and this was one of the games I first played and even finished. Compared to any of the Nintendo games I played back then, this was the one that left such a major impression on me. Elementary school me loved how it stood out compared to the fairly sanitized fun that was on the Nintendo Wii and I couldn't get enough of it. As a matter of fact, the atmosphere and enemies of the game I even had a dream when I was six where I was literally fighting Wario himself as a boss and he had that weirdly moving face. It sucks you don't see Nintendo making experimental games like these anymore.

I wish they did a newer Wario World with a better storyline also involving Waluigi.

This game was so popular that I began to think this game was a fever dream I came up with when I was a child confusing the game with Wario Land. You have no idea how relieved I am to know I did not make this game up.

You didn't need WarioWare on GBA, you just got a free set of a few microgames to play for free. I loved it, I'd load one before going places and then close my SP so I could just play WarioWare whenever

I love how the commercial called him Wario-Sama. That fits his greedy personality quite well.

I feel like I'm the only one who took advantage of the GBA Link Cable for this game, and was introduced to Warioware microgames as a result. The last four were genuinely hard, because they introduced levels and speeds unheard of in the actual game. One of them was the race car game avoiding the balls, and while the actual GBA warioware game only goes up to four, this version went up to 8, and the speeds were absolutely impossible to deal with. Still fun though.

On the dialogue of the black jewel he states that he will transform all this greedy sap’s treasures into monsters. So mostly likely the whole place of wario was transformed into a new world

Wario World is one of my favorite games with one of my favorite characters, and this review does it so much justice! I love that you didn't skimp on anything, not even the barely-there plot; most reviewers would just skip past that part since it isn't expected or important, but you had an actual discussion about it, and I appreciate that as a plot-enjoyer myself! Even I'll admit the game's pretty flawed with its repetition and easy difficulty, but what matters is that the core gameplay is fun, and the soul/essence of the game is insane enough to keep most people (especially me!) interested. I would definitely love to see a remake on the Switch that touches up on the fixable weak spots (the collectibles, lack of plot/lore, minimal side content, general easiness, the less polished bosses like the Black Jewel, etc), though!

I will always have a soft spot for Wario World after playing it for the first time after watching a Top 10 video putting it at number 1 of best Wario Games, idk maybe I'm just a fan of pile driving a dinosaur.

Wario is such a mood. This game is probably among the top ten best things mankind has produced.

After replaying this game to completion over the course of the past few days, gotta say I agree with basically every point in this video. I'm pretty nostalgic for this game and I think there are a ton of really cool and unique ideas but overall the game feels unfinished or not fully realized at parts. I wish some bits were a tad more challenging, but since running around and punching everything is so damn satisfying it kept me entertained to the very end. Also screw collecting every item on the snow level. If not for my "time machine" on my "official hardware" I wouldn't have even bothered 100%-ing it.

It’s funny how no one talks about this game but it’s one of the first few games I had growing up. I will always wonder how much this abstract and zany game influenced my personality 😂

Well WarioLand has usually weird and creepy bosses, especially 4 but even some in 3 and 1 have that vibe

I love this game and played it many times as a kid together with my brother. However, ever since, I've had this strange feeling about it... for litteral years. It's really creepy, and not in a good way (as with horror games). It's so weird and strange, almost if it was made to make you feel uncomfrtable. It's filled with strange symbolism and occult imagery.. its enemies, bossed and levels are mostly themed around some twisted, abnormal, abstract weird thing that is very hard ti describe with words.

Wow am I glad I never actually fought any bosses and just ran around the levels on my sibling's file, I would have had horrible nightmares

I actually used the link cable feature back in the day.. From what I remember you didnt need to own the warioware gba game to use the feature. The feature actually let you try out warioware minigames so it was like a warioware demo.

treasure's "highly requested game" was the switch port of radiant silver gun. they will never work on a new game ever again.

This game feels like a third party game even though it isn't. It's weird. (I made this comment before watching the video. Now I know it has a reason for it!)

Wario Land 4 may be my personal favorite Wario game, but Wario World excellently encapsulates how weird and wacky Wario games can get, while at the same time showcasing how much of a brawler Wario can be. It's the perfect Wario game... though it is somewhat rough around the edges. Really makes me want to have it get a remake or sequel to cut out some of the more BS moments.

Finally, I thought it'd never come

I actually really liked this game. Too bad that it had very little post-game, unlike Super Mario Sunshine. If only it took notes from it like incorporating different versions of the stages with their own objectives and maybe more bosses. ofc new moves would be great too, especially with decent enemy variety

Play rainworld downpour, as a game designer it is my favorite indie game. I’ve played hollow knight pizza tower etc. they are all good games but rainworld is the most impressive to me and underrated.

Wario world was one of the God games of GameCube it needs a part 2 with waluigi co-op.

Jazz Jackrabbit series retrospective plz?

I think this game needs a remastered version. Improve on the controls, expand Wario's combat; add more levels and worlds, along with better level designs. I'd also give more emphasis on the collectibles; the more you collect, the better ending you get. Similar to what the Luigi's Mansion games did 🤷🏻‍♂️

This game is to me is Nintendo's Ren and Stimpy. Its a game that Nintendo would NOT make today. Its to weird and creepy for kids to clash with their modern image. But that's what I love about it. Also it just being a fun and great game and the fucking quotes. HAVE A ROTTEN DAY!!!
