Seriously, Animation is really mistreated...

Corporations that write off their media should instantly go into public domain. If its truly a loss, then it shouldn't matter if it goes there anyway

The latest of Zaslav's many awful decisions. This movie had so much potential, one of the most interesting plot of any Looney Tunes production ever, and with my boy Wile as the star. There's absolutely no reason not to let the world see this. And Zaslav didn't even see it. I know it's been said, but he has absolutely no repect for animation and needs to be forced out. He is ruining Warner Bros.

Any film that gets shelved for a tax write off should just be released by the government and become public domain since the costs are basically being covered by the taxpayers.

Honestly, this is just infuriating. It's such a shame that this film will never see the light of day. So much work was put into it, and the plot is so interesting, this had the potential to be such a hit. And yet Zaslav is destroying it without even having seen it. The term "Tax Write-off" pisses me off more than anything on earth, because now it's used as excuse for CEO's to be lazy and inconsiderate towards their workers who they're now treating like slaves. Especially with animation.

I feel like an important detail that you missed is that the government is planning on taking action on Zaslav over this film being shelved.

I’m in accounting myself and in my honest opinion, I think something is up on the business side of things. I can understand writing off finished products, but the pattern with these movies is that they get completed or are 90% done, and the company immediately goes “sorry, it’s not worth it.” I personally cannot recall another company doing this on such a consistent basis, nor do I see any benefit of doing this as a business. I’m glad the government is looking into this. If it’s as bad as I fear it could get, we might see a scandal the size of Enron.

we had david zaslav as out commencement speaker last year for my university, suffice to say he wasn't particularly welcomed at all. ironic how he said "follow your passions" yet does stuff like this to stuff people have poured their work into. can't believe my school still kept him even when faculty were saying how bad of an idea it would be

I've already lost my patience with Warner Bros since Justice League or more appropriately, JOSStice League. Honestly, I should've lost my patience long before then. But this regime of deleting people's hard work for tax write-offs solidified that Warner Bros is just beyond redemption now. DC getting their own separate studio after decades of executive meddling is one of the few, if not ONLY, strand of hope for this entire company!

I would actually like to see a law change that when a entertainment company does a write off on a show/movie/etc that it'll become open access (between public domain & copyright where it's open to watch but can't be made other works from like with public domain)

Honestly, I hate this so much. I feel like what the IRS should do instead is the only way you can have it as a write-off is if you put it in the public domain. That way it is a public good and therefore it's legitimately coming from our taxes.

Cancelling a series and not continuing it is one thing. Writing a series or movie off and preventing any kind of purchase is another thing entirely. Though at least with things that were initially released and then written off, they’re still available through the high seas.

There should be an amendment to Tax Write off laws that allows anything that’s been sold off as a tax write off then be available to buy by _anyone_ for an equal amount of money… The taxmen get double the value of the original write off, and anyone with the money to splurge gets whatever was sold for themselves to do with as they see fit, regardless of whomever owned it last. THAT would allow anything that was sold off to be made available again AND discourage practices like this for easy money.

I think the bigger question here is why does the IRS not make these movies public domain? If they get handed over to the government with the studio not allowed to profit from it, why not release it to the general public as public domain?

I will never fucking recover from the Infinity Train write off

So, I saw an unfinished release of the movie intended to gauge audience reception, and I'ma be honest, Coyote Vs Acme wasn't going to be a blockbuster or a chart topper, but the movie was genuinely interesting and fun to watch. Even with the unfinished animations and effects, it was a delight to watch. The blend of 3d toons and practical effects was awesome, and it was just a really fun movie. I even got my dad excited to watch it, so I'm beyond pissed that it's might never see the light of day. David Zaslav is a thief of joy and a terrible business man.

The fact that Warner is refusing to negotiate a deal tells me they did not want this to release. That being said, even the federal government is taking notice. And the government is not too happy. If anything, I would keep and eye on regulation changes. Especially if it makes tax write offs like these harder or down right restricted.

Okay. I know this is bad, but there's still 3 things that could happen that'll ensure this movie's safety. 1. The movie might get leaked online and WB will release it later (just like what happened with "Scooby-Doo! and Krypto Too"). 2. The producers have a copy made at the ready if the movie does get deleted (just like what happened with "Toy Story 2") 3. Mr. Zaslav will eventually get fired and replaced with a better CEO (just like what happened with Bob Chapek) If neither of these things happen, we are so screwed. But on the bright side, at least we're still getting "Porky Pig & Daffy Duck in *The Day the Earth Blew Up* "

I think we can all agree at this point that WarnerMedia was better for Warner Bros. Yes, WarnerMedia had its problems, but it wouldn't have had never canceled Coyote vs. Acme, Batgirl, Scoob! Holiday Haunt and other projects. And WarnerMedia was didn't so negative like WBD.

Warner also refused to sell the rights back to the creators of Megas XLR, And then shelved it as well.

Right now from Deadline, the movie remains in purgatory limbo, as the doors hadn’t closed yet, so there is still hope and the government & congress might get involved thanks to Texas congressman Joaquin Castro, who took to Twitter months to slam the studio for WBD attempting a tax writeoff, who now again wrote to the FTC and DOJ on this anti-competitive and predatory behavior. There’s still hope, but it’s running out of time as we shall raise our voices to get the movie released.

Honestly, I don't know what he's trying to do with his company other than keeping money away from the artists because he's that cheap. I hope two things: One, that all these tax write-offs sour the reputation of WB enough that the studio struggles to get people to work for its next projects, whatever they may be - 'cause, y'know, the odds are high those projects are gonna be write-offs too, right? Even if they aren't, everyone is now wary of anything WB will put forward, on the off-chance anything announced is another project that will never be released. I want to imagine actors turning down WB with the same level of harsh language Ron Perlman displayed against execs who openly wished writers would lose their houses due to last year's Writers' Strike. And two, that the loss of Coyote vs. ACME leads to a really good documentary, obviously NOT made by WB, highlighting the practice and how harmful it is. Interviews with the actors, interviews with Coyote's animators, with people from the industry! There's something here for a documentary that could see a wide release in theaters. It could make more money than Coyote Vs. ACME gave back in tax write-offs!

i was already against david zaslav for a lot of reasons but he made an enemy the day he cancelled the Gumball movie. now every time i hear his name i'm filled with insurmountable rage. every new thing i hear about him doing just makes me more and more rabid. at what point is is ever enough. 75 million is more money than i will ever see in my life, let alone comprehend. and that was his _BARE MINIMUM._ the sheer audacity and privilege behind asking for that much is beyond me.

Some disgruntled employee over at WB has a chance to do the funniest damn thing ever.

At least two people (A Texas Congressman, and a former Senate candidate) have contacted the US Department of Justice regarding WBD and the potential tax fraud they may be committing. I'm hoping that leads to some outcome where the film does get released in some way. The only other hope is that somebody just straight up leaks it.

The laws should be adjusted so that ANYTHING that is a tax write off MUST go into the public domain. If We The People's taxes go towards this system, and it's "worthless" than We The People deserve the content they wrote off.

This isn't even serving the shareholders at this point. He's activity costing his shareholders money since they would have made their money back and then some had he sold it or released it. He needs to be kicked.

I literally broke down hearing this news. I thought Max purging all those Adult Swim shows back in December was bad enough, but this just crosses the line for me. I was hyped for this film! This was just ASKING for an Oscar! But Mr. Honey Boo Boo just had to go and wipe his ass with it! Why can't WBD just let us be happy? Incredible to me that James Gunn, despite being (reportedly) heavily involved with the movie and being in a position to leverage the company into doing something with this movie has said nothing about the fate of it

There's an irony to this being canceled, considering the premise of the movie.

I don’t understand how this isn’t tax fraud? How is that even legal? Writing off something you haven’t earned anything from because you haven’t even released it? I’ve been a WB fan since I can remember but the way they treat their iconic characters is disgusting. They are doing so much damage to the brand if they delete it.
