I'm not a mechanic but hopefully people that complain about auto repair prices will learn something from your documentation. Good Video and nice camera work!
My moms 2011 fusion is leaking from the transmission the dealer said the axle is gone too they’re charging her 400 for the leak supposedly and another 450 for the axle. But coming upon this video I might just do it myself if it is in fact the job as the one in this video. Might have to take a look later when she gets home ..
If the leak is on the drivers side that is probably the issue. The price seems a little steep, but you are dealing with a dealer here. If you can find out what trans was in it then you will know for sure.
Thanks my 13 Fusion has some minor seeping at 114,000 miles Not near as bad as the one in the video, but i am going to get it checked out. First time I have had to take this car in other than general maintenance items.
@josephvollmar what size blind hole puller did you use to pull the old bushing out? And where did you buy it from? Also I’m in Arnold MO and interested in you doing this service for my 2010 fusion. Could you DM?
Hey Joseph thanks for the video this happened to my wife’s car. Can it also happen to the passenger side vs the drivers side ? Both o rings on the axles had fluid leaking ? Thanks
I just (a month ago) bought a used 2010 Fusion SE with the 6F35 transmission and has 177,xxx miles at the time of purchase. After doing some research, I discovered that the bushing you replaced in the video, if I understood my research results correctly, is covered under recall by Ford. Now my exact issue is, is it normal for "shady" dealerships and garages to mark all your outstanding recalls as being "competed". Now when I bought the car it was fine other than a constant whining nose that matched the rpm (same sound you get from being low on power steering fluid, but yet constant when driving or idling) but now I'm going through tranny fluid at a rate of 1 bottle per day. Now I've noticed that all my recalls are marked as "competed", but on the other hand, it's leaking like crazy. I've talked to a friend at work that used to be a mechanic (he wanted a career change I guess) and told me that these types of repairs are of the "once (maybe twice) in the life of a vehicle" type of repair. What I'm thinking is that with it being only 11 years old at this point (and that's if you go all the way back until the vehicle was brand new), was it possibly done either wrong, or not done at all but marked "competed" by someone being shady? What would your best professional educated guess be?
just jack up the front driver side and move the wheel or cv axle and see if it moves like he showed in the video. you can only find out whats exactly wrong with your vehicle by physically examining it.
Just to confirm this kit works on 2012 ford fusion automatic transmission 4 cylinder I'm watching the video and want to make sure.this kit will work..?
I have an 11' ford fusion, Its leaking transmission fluid or engine oil. I have to top it off with at least 3 quarts a day. I wish i never brought the piece of shit. I think there is something is wrong with the power steering too . but on this vehicle, you cant see it from the top of the hood. I've been doing research and it says that it has electric steering...
I ordered the bushing and seal .. my bushing has a notch cut out into it noticed urs didn’t .. hope it’s the right one. Says it’s supposed to allow fluid to lubricate the bushing
I changed passenger side CV Joint on 2014 Fusion SE 2.0 FWD today. After test drive I noticed a small puddle of transmission fluid under car coming from where CV Joint goes into Transmission. Is it possible some leaked out just from having the joint out without draining the transmission? SHould I have changed the seal when I changed the Joint? Any feedback would be helpful, thanks!
hi, Joseph, i have 2018 ford fusion hybrid, front driver side CV axle have same leaking problem, already changed axle also axle seal...but leaking still happen ...do u think if this kit works with my model too..thanks
As always refer to your owners manual if possible as it may be different depending on the year or drive train options on the vehicle. A good rule of thumb is every 25k miles. A little extra on preventative maintenance can prolong service life. I would double check to see if your fusion has a serviceable filter. Without having access to online manuals today I do not believe it does, but I could be mistaken. Changing the fluid is still a good idea though as it will help to remove contaminants. Make sure you use the proper fluid as specified by your manual.
They allegedly had fixed it after the 2014 model year, but it would be something to keep an eye on. I wouldn’t worry too much unless you notice a leak. A lot of these were fixed early under warranty, but a few made it longer than that.
Hi. So I replaced the driver side axle but I didn’t replace the bushing. After a month or 2, it started leaking fluid again(a lot of fluid) How likely is it that the replaced axle got damage from the damaged bushing. Do I have to buy another axle when I replace the bushing? Thanks
I would say it’s 50/50. Pull the axle and look closely at the area that rides in the bushing. If you see any signs of scoring, or metal transfer replace it. You don’t want to risk jacking up the new bushing.
Repair shop just tried to tell me it would cost $1,560 for a used transmission lower because the inner bushing is worn. I guess he didn't know that I knew the bushing was already bad because my stepson didn't change it when he replaced the left cv axle & outer seal. That guy is such a fucktard... I told him to change the bushing, not leave the old on it..... EDIT: Update. Grandson had that shop fix the transmission and 3 months later it started leaking again. They put a used lower on the vehicle but didn't install the updated bushing... Ya know that mechanic could have replaced that bushing while the lower-trans was out of the vehicle.. remember I called that guy a fucktard... His is one.... Thanks for the video, I'll call the closest Ford Dealership now & get a Bushing/Seal kit ordered and have numb-nuts do it over again, this time do it right....
If anybody is still active here. I have a 2013 ford fusion with the 1.6l, fwd. I was driving highway, around 65-70mph. When i got a message on screen "reduced power to lower engine temp", fine i pulled over. But as soon i as went into park, i heard a loud sound like air escaping, like there was too much pressure in the transmission i guess, right after there was smoke, and on the ground about a quart of trans fluid. I look under and it look like it was coming from this seal or above, not sure. I got the car towed home. Added and leveled the trans fluid, and it hasnt leak at all. I am getting a check engine light (P0741, transmission valve body needs replacing). Other than that dumping of the fluid, gears 1-2, 4-5-6 shift great. But from 2 to 3, or 3 to 4, upshifting or downshift. The car basically bangs into that gear. Always from 2 to 3(upshift), or 4 to 3(downshift). Has anyone ran into this issue or close to? Or at least that code. In already in process of ordering the valve body and mercon lv to flush and fill.
I Believe it will but it depends on the transmission model that is in the car. I know this TSB also covered some of the Ford fusions. I am using a blind hole bearing puller to pull the bushing out. You could rent that tool as a loan at all from any of your local auto parts stores it’s a slide hammer with a blind hole bearing puller. I would have to do some research based on the Vin number to see if that particular fusion was covered by the TSB.
I wish mechanics would use better English than "tear" apart. For example, one doesn't "tear" apart the axle. Paper can be torn, clothing can be torn. You cannot "tear down" an engine. What is happening is it is being "unbolted" or "dismantled." I believe the word "tear" was engineered to psychologically scare car owners because nothing is being "teared/torn". That said. Anyone know where the list of TSBs can be found? In 2001 the internet was easy and I could easily find the list to print out with my first car. The Fusion is my second car and I didn't think much about it until now.
