My uncle had one of these, I remember I couldn’t reach the rudder pedals but my uncle let me fly as long as I only turned 10 degrees or less. I learned to fly on instruments before I could see over the glare shield. Soloed when I was 16 and got my private and instrument certificate on my 17 birthday. 23,643 hours later and still fly 4 or 5 hours a week now a retired captain. I encourage any young people to learn to fly as early as possible, there’s no age limit to start just can’t solo till 16 and get your certificate at 17

“Everything of course is ball bearings”. I don’t think Jimmy caught that movie reference dropped by the mechanic. The movie was Fletch, starring Chevy Chase. Look it up if you have not seen it, hilarious movie. Look up the scene where Chevy is impersonating an A&P or airplane mechanic. One of Chevys greatest movie scenes in my humble opinion. Jimmy, I just want to say, I absolutely love what you are all about. We need to get more youngsters involved with aviation as there is definitely a demand for pilots and mechanics currently. I fly business jets out of SE Michigan and absolutely love it. Aviation is one of the best industries on the planet to be involved with, plenty of big opportunities these days. I feel blessed and lucky to have the job that I do and it is hard to beat the rush one gets while flying high performance jets. Thank you for the uploads Jimmy and for shining a positive light on aviation. Fan for life!!

Apparently the guys who designed my 89 Fleetwood Limited Edition 37 ' Class A RV were avid Cessna Twin Executive fans, as my big motorcoach has those same tables, armrests and almost the same number of gauges in it's dash. I've been restoring and upgrading it in the Classic Jimmys World mode of operation. Throw $ MOney at it until it works again. Repowered it because, well, it needed MORE Power! Gas to Turbo Diesel.

I own SN 105 and love it. Strakes, VG's, no cowl flaps improve VMC. Big items are aux tank bladders, heater, old alternators, fuel and oil hoses and ancient avionics. Get an upgrade. OEM turbos and parts are not available. Remove the boots and associated anti-ice plumbing. AD doesn't allow flight into known icing. Save the weight. Knisely can come up with exhaust parts. Yeah, there's lots more stuff to take a look at to make this thing airworthy.

At 06:20 it is NOT a Storm Scope. This is an RCA AVQ-55 Radar. There is a dish antenna in the nose of the plane that feeds this equipment (if not removed...). At 6:34 you pointed to one of the two ADFs control panels that have selections for Compass, Antenna and Loop (two types of antenna that ADF has), signal intensity gauge plus BFO (beat frequency oscillator) ON or OFF. When ON, a tuning tone can be heard which aids in tuning the frequency, since the frequency in this ADF is set by a dial at the bottom of this panel. The higher the tone (and the needle at the gauge), better the frequency is set. There is also a dial to set the volume level (that enables hearing the sation) and a "Loop" switch to set the loop antenna manually. All this is absolutely obsolete, obviously. But I've operated a similar system 15 years ago on Boeing 737-200 and that ADFs NEVER failed. At 6:47 you pointed to an old RNAV equipment, which doesn't utilizes GPS information, but from a VPU (VOR Processing Unit) instead, that selects VOR stations with DME to triangulate and calculate aircraft position. The system works like an Omega or LORAN, but using the VOR/DMEs as the primary source. I would only buy this plane if there was an STC to replace the engines with Lycomings direct drive. Otherwise, I would never feel safe flying these engines, which are known to be difficult to handle and maintain.

My flight school has one of these sitting around dismounted, used to be for students Multi-Engine rating until 20 years ago after it had a accident, crazy to think people learned to fly in these knowing what the planes capable of and its features. Great Video !

All aircraft deserve respect of course , but that 411 can be a real handful on one engine. My advice would be to have someone who is really familiar with the 411, demonstrate it's dark side. It's better to experience it when prepared, than to discover it when your not.

Amazing and very complete walkthrough and airworthiness inspection/ eval. He reminds me of how my Dad would go over a plane that he was looking to buy to fly or restore and i would learn something new or unique with every walkthrough. Brought back fond memories. While dad designed and built military aircraft, I went on to become an air traffic controller, became a regional FAA Examiner and retired from the profession a few years back. I still love flight and being around airports and work closely with FBOs and AIrport managers in my current job. Thanks for sharing!

I owned and flown a Cessna 411 for a while. Great airplane..... So the first big difference between the 411 and other 400 series Cessna, is the tail. It has a 310 size tail. Other 400 series Cessna have the larger tail surface. The 411 got a bad rap for not having enough tail surface in case engine out during take-off and thus loss of directional control and taking more than normal amount of counter rudder pressure. Thus AD was issued, increasing the airspeed before lift-off or rotation, minimum safe airspeed for take-off. Yeah, OK, its still a Cessna and flies wonderfully if operated properly. I'd check all fuel systems, lines, hoses, filters, selector valves. I'd buy new batteries, tires tubes, change oil and filters, inspect air filters in wing, make sure no bird nests and condition of air filter. Run up engines, maybe pull all plugs, clean and or buy new plugs if worn, mag check, check compressions, make sure electric fuel pumps work good, check for any fuel leaks, and verify that all fuel throttles, fuel cute off, and mixture and prop controls are free and move easily. Inspect exhaust for any cracks or leaks. Cycle those props, and make sure the electric cowl flaps operate fully. I'd order new fuel sump drain valves, or clean and replace o-rings on those, you'll be lucky if your fuel injection throttle/fuel control units, which have internal o-rings, and the spider valve on top of engines with internal rubberized diaphragm are not hardened. I might even replace the brake fluid in brake system. I'd be surprised if the brakes will even pump up without at lease adding fluid.

I worked at a place where the Director of Operations said of our Director of maintenance "Ole JOE has forgotten more about round engines than either you or I will ever know... normally you'd take that as a funny way to make a complement.. As I was walking away he continued, "The problem IS, IS that he HAS FORGOTTEN IT..." An airplane sitting for 6 months is a candidate for a ferry permit... One sitting as long as this old girl needs an annual before she goes anywhere... There is a way to have a really good IA take it all apart and tell you what all needs fixed... Flying it away without doing an annual is a way of Getting it off the field so nobody has to deal with it anymore... An annual inspection could eaiily go $10K without actually performing any work. At that point one decides whether it is worth walking away or completing a full annual.... I walked away from a really nice Baron C that needed the engine cases replaced...

Jimmy, this 411 is an AD Queen. The most valuable items are the logbooks - plane, props and engines. Were you able to review them? With the low airframe hours and good logs you might survive the annual. Then, all you will need is an oil well! Cameron is your only sustainable path forward as a poor government pensioner.

Jimmy, I’m AP/IA PP type, with maybe 70ish hrs In T-6G. The airplane in no wind is so easy, a gusty cross wind is a different story. It’s got so much more inertia than say a Pitts. I’ve never bent one but I have some good stories. I just got back from working the week at LAL, Be back there next week. Warbird stuff…

I heard the Cessna 411 was a short lived Cessna Twin. I knew a pilot that lost an engine and almost ran out of rudder. He was an experienced pilot and the 411 scared him. I believe there were others who had the same opinion. Now, I noted this one had VG's on the wing which may help with engine out situations. Personally I would not have one. Read the safety reports on the C-411. There may have been mods that help it. Check the logs very carefully!

I watch your show a lot my father used to fly a 411 Cessna out of hobby airport in Houston and it is an airplane I spend a lot of time in when I was 14 through 16 how we did belly land one in at hobby airport and I love this airplane keep the 411 flying

Some more trivia for you, Jimmy. In all of my career working on Jet Fighters, We never once used nitrogen. Of course, our air compressors were much more sophisticated than those found at your basic airfield. They used 10 micron filters to keep out contaminates and were designed to prevent water from getting into the tires or struts.

Thanks for another great video it was interesting and enjoyable. For a plane that had sat for ten years not too bad at all. I am shocked how good of condition it is end. The gentleman you have with you is one of the best I have seen and heard. He knows what he is looking at and what is what. Wanting big money for this bird or reasonable dollars????????! I have always wanted a Cessna 411 ever since completing multi engine flight training. However, these 411's have a poor safety record because of their single engine flight performance characteristics. If you were well trained, then maybe things went your way. Moreover, the geared engines were very expensive to overhaul and may even be obsolete as far as parts availability is concerned. Love that interior. Most likely the spar modification is required and that will most likely ruin any possibility of saving this cool bird.

GTSIO-520 s are on the 421s. As long as the crank case stays in tact you can get parts. I dare say you could even get engines overhauled.

So will the 411 get new tires a quick pre flight!!! Some fresh fuel and a balls to the walls flight to Florida? Or is it getting a full inspection and a more safe flight to Florida?? I like safety so I'd go with the latter but the less concerned kid in me also likes the raise the hairs on the back of my neck style adventure... but is that even possible?
