I have the previous generation. 8/9/PW in the blade, 5/6/7 in the CB. The feel is spectacular and the appearance is other worldly. Club up, relax your swing and just enjoy!
Wilson has almost always made some of the most beautiful irons in the business. I have a set from 1972 and they are stunning, Nonetheless, Wilson muscle backs are some of the least forgiving Irons you could put in your bag. When you miss, they come up short much more than you could ever expect.
Wilson holds onto their traditional strength and is moving competently through the rest of the bag for all types of golfers 👍 Looking forward to the oncourse review.
I say play against yourself in a 9 hole match , you playing the blade vs the cavity back!!! Wilson irons are classic and perform amazingly! Awesome content James!
Hi James, I just ordered last week the new Wilson Staff blade. When I tested the 7 iron, I was so surprised to see how well I played it. Also, surprisingly it gave me the carry distance of a 6 iron.
Wilson Staff irons are the Acura NSX of the golf world. Look amazing and perform but don't get talked about nearly enough. Very hidden gems. Those blades look incredible 🤙
Nice video! James, don’t forget those are the standard old lofts. Sort of. I played a set of Haigs up to a 2 iron. I practices with it on occasion off a low tee. A couple of young pros were standing next to me. I interrupted their practice and said; Yiu guys are pros, see if you can hit This!? Best shit was about 150. I would put the blades in up to the 4 iron and enjoy golf! I still play blades, Mizuno with a softer shaft now at 70 years old. Still can hit a 6 iron 185 ish. Love your videos with Chris!!! And the great courses you have over in the Uk.
I almost got the older ones at a discount but really didn’t want the full weight S300 shaft. These come with the mid 115 which are a lot more manageable.
@@MrMatthew262 I actually put X100 shafts in mine…. Beefy. Stock the irons are very light. Still, the feel is amazing. See if your local shop will let you demo them on the course and you’ll see… very solid soft feel…absolutely love these irons. I played two generations of Staff model FG tours before getting these, and these take those great irons and up the ante a bit with the tungsten toe insert…even toey shots are not bad…
I use blades. And seeing u with the 4 iron makes me happy. It’s so hard to use. But every now and then u pure it and u feel like a pro 🤣. Great review and those clubs look beautiful
I have just received my 2024 Staff Model Blades. I’m an adequate ball striker and I don’t hit the ball into space. I got them because they make me feel good. If you don’t hit them from the middle you’ll get punished but they’re more forgiving than you might think. I love them.
Another good video James (and great caddying Chris); I’ve been looking forward to this video. I currently play the D9 Forged irons, but am a serial de-lofter, so am really interested in the Wilson Staff CB irons. Also I’m a tight arse, so if I can get great clubs for less money, I’ll take them every time. Keep up the great work
Those irons gorgeous, wish I waited for these, instead am playing the mizuno 923 forged irons, love em but still miss my Wilson staff tour blades from late 80's, the best ever.....
They are my new irons 😊. A blended set of CBs and blades, and they are gorgeous. This year, they have designed the back of the blades to be a better visual match to the CBs. Mind you, last year's blades were even prettier. They feel incredible, and the blades are more 'forgiving'/consistent than you'd expect.
Wilson are great value for money, they produce great feeling irons. I started playing wilson left to play Mizuno and have returned to Wilson of which I am happy to play for there quality and consistency, I believe they are very underrated as a manufacturer of great clubs and find a lot of bias towards Wilson against the so called bigger names. I personally love all the irons I have played manufactured by Wilson ❤️😁😁😁
Ian Fraser hit both with extreme consistency. He noted that the drilled out hosel allows Wilson to add a little weight to the toe which helps bring the sweet spot a bit more toward the center of the face than is usual for blades.
Have played Wilson clubs for nearly 50 years from early X31 irons. Now have the previous CB irons and Dynapower carbon driver with D9 fairway woods and hybrids
wilson staff irons are massively underrated. I've been custom fit 3 times now, tried a numbèr of manufacturers. Ping have always come out on top but, wilson staff are usually in the other choice. They make great feeling forged irons.
I had JPX 921 HMP. I'm a 4 HDCP, and didn't realize how strongly lofted the HMP were. I was carrying my P wedge 145 and had a large yard gap between 50 degree and P wedge. I met with a club pro. Tried out a more traditional style of irons. I still wanted some forgiveness, but wanted some of the aspects of a players iron. I traded in my JPX 921s HMP and left with a P-4 Iron Wilson Staff model CBs. The lofts are more traditional with 7 iron at 34 degrees and now I carry my P wedge 135 and I can easily hit it 125 if needed. Now my gaps are closed and playing well. Love these irons. If your a decent ball striker, the other benefit of these clubs, is the ability to club up and swing confidently. With the strong lofted clubs and hot face, I could randomly get a ball that would just come off sooooo hot and fly 10 yards further than expected. These clubs have me dialed in with my carry numbers.
I’m coming from the HMP to the CB’s well. Wanted something to tame the distance and a little sleeker looking. I can’t stand huge soles. I’m looking forward to them but a bit nervous about the transition to this type of iron from such a helpful one. How long did it take Wilson to ship your irons?
I had the Wilson Staff fluid feel blades as my first complete set in the mid 80's. Very un-forgiving but when I hit them well, they were awesome. Had a sweetspot about the size of a dime. I have always liked Wilson. I am currently using Titleist and really contemplating Takomo in the near future but now, I will have to consider Wilson. Thanks again for the review.
Had the previous tour model CB. Loved the feel and look but I just couldn't score with them. Traded them in for some Srixon Zx7s and was back shooting in the 70s within a few rounds. Now just gotta heal up from this back surgery and I should be back on the course by mid April.
The Staff CBs are beautiful irons and rather forgiving for what they are, i have the previous ones and they have been great for me, coming off a set of Ping G400s that i just didnt get along with i wanted something more consistent with good forgiveness, they are more than that.
Wilson does make some great irons..Just wondering how the CB would stack up against the Mizuno 245 irons??? Could you do a video of that and give us your takes???Thanks...
@@JDDD33 I have played and still have the d9 forged. They are great, but like I said I am focusing on ball striking this year and the d9’s (and I’m sure the dynaforged) let me get away with more mishits. The dynapowers look and feel great too.
I would play the cb’s but at least a degree strong. I think that would tame the height and spin a but. Would make these a serious contender on category.
Hey James, the reason that you are not getting the longer distance is because the Lofts are weaker. The Wilson Staff Blade & CB 7 Iron is 34 Degrees. Most 7 Irons are 30 to 32 Degrees. It is more like an 8 Iron.
There are many reasons why everyone should NOT play forged blades. Wilson once had a absolute lock on providing forged blades to top tour players but quickly lost its staggering market share when other manufacturers evolved the technology of golf clubs. These clubs are nothing more than a nostalgic curiosity and a relic of a bygone era long since passed. Thank You but I'm sticking to my modern clubs.
I'm just a CB kinda guy, lol. Any brand, Titleist cb's, Cobra cb's, Wilson...they're throwbacks at least in appearance to the tour cavity back irons from over twenty years ago...only better. I've seen Padraig Harrington's witb photos and his Wilson irons look rusty. Nice looking musclebacks for sure there,,, no thanks.
