Turn off all internal burners and close the lid to smother the fire. Open the lid after about 20 seconds and let the smoke billow out (anything salvageable will survive this step…anything that doesn’t was already gone). Go in the house, find a mirror, and look at a failure. Only in that order will you find future success.
Happened to my inlaws, we did all the steps you listed but it took a few minutes cause the fire was getting air from the bottom grease trap holes and it was a windy day. Ended fine in the end but took a lot longer since it wasn’t a good seal
It’s called clean out your grill after every use all that old oil catches fire fast so a clean grill will last you way longer☺️ and it for sure won’t cause that stay safe my ppl don’t leave grills unattended that’s how things turn worse if unsupervised
@@Dcam4900 if you cook this regularly, you should be lining it with foil and change it when it gets dirty i had this exact grill for five years. its half gas half charcoal with an add on side smoker if you wanted to buy it now i have a trager. this cant happen no more LOL but im good on any grill charcoal gas or otherwise.
Steak was fine in there 😅 as for charcoal you can get in the same mess with drums. 15, parents were out... I thought I'm going to make super 😂. Belly bangers I made first were pro potatoes were pro... then the grease guns were put on and all hell broke loose. Neighbor was watching, thinking I know where this is goin, he ran over laughing flicked the chicken and potatoes on a sheet then put the lid on for a sec ... I learned things that day 😂
Whaaaaaaat!? The essence of the grill is part of the recipe ;) In this situation it was rather easy to control the flame......shut off burners and close lid...Now if the flame reached outside then Good luck. Options: 1. pool 2. fire extinguisher, if readily available lol.
Had this happen to me once, manning the grill at a friend of a friend’s place once. This was a real run-down place that hadn’t seen regular cleaning in years - so his grill was the same. Halfway through cooking chicken and hotdogs, the thing went from Medium to the same thing from this video. Needless to say, the owner of the house was immediately called out by everyone at the party, for never fkin cleaning his grill.
Get yourself some Grill Grates they are a game changer for grilling, they will cut down on flare ups 90%. Bring sanity back to grilling and fun. Best thing I ever purchased for my grill.
Doesn't matter when your grease catch pan os full of fat from the last burger cookout and you essentially turn your gas grill into a fuckin grease candle..
@@nguyenn99527 Set himself on fire!? If he twists the propane valve on his propane tank it will stop the flow of propane to his grill. 😂. Sure, turning it off at the grill knob should be done first, BUT you could have a leak on your line and propane could still be pumping out... until you stop the propane flow valve on the propane tank. The tank is ALWAYS placed away from the grill as can be seen in the video. The flames won't touch him.
Close the lid too. It will starve the grease fire of oxygen should go out very quickly. Resist the urge to open it too soon. A hot grease fire that suddenly has oxygen again will flare up in your face. Always keep a dry chemical extinguisher 🧯, or baking soda handy as well as a wet beach towel. Never put water on grease, but a wet towel will starve the fire of oxygen.
I’m all for charcoal but this is easily avoidable if you actually clean your grill or smoker. I’ve seen fires destroy Traegers because they forgot to clean it. It’s all about maintenance
No... he just never cleaned his grill, so all the char started to burn. Also he was stupid in not knowing he also needed to turn OFF the gas and close the lid. Gas grills are excellent when used properly.
What happens when you don’t clean your grill. All the grease from the past cook outs just builds up over the guards for the burners and just ends up being fuel for a fire like that ^
When grilling and you experience an out of controlled fare up and don't have a fire extinguisher near by, always have A BOX OF BAKING SODA near by. When you throw baking soda on a class B (grease) fire, the baking soda will extinguish the fire . Watching this video, the brother that turned it off was a God Send, but if you can close that hood, to smother the air, and turn off that propane tank and actually unscrew it to remove it MORE POWER TO IT.
> Me 19 years old at friends pool party. > They make me Grill master because I'm the only one that grills. > Look at the Huge Propane grill, Looks clean on the outside. > Start grilling and a Huge fire starts when the grill is closed. > Ask friend when is the last time your dad cleaned it? > Friend said I have never seen him clean inside and we haven't used it in years. > Mother of God, What have I done. > Fire is raging. Can hardly get close enough to locate all port holes. > Mins go by and still raging fire with lid closed and everything off. > Open it out of fear it's going to blow the top off. > Instantly lose all the hair on my arm, chest, and face. > Friend says you idiot you weren't supposed to put charcoal on the grates this is propane. > That's not charcoal it's our food. > Still have my beer in my hand. > Screw it, splash splash. > Holy shit I can't believe it worked. > Pulled the clumps of char off the grill and Plated it like a 5 star chef.
Step 1: Turn off all the burners Step 2: Get all the food off the grill Step 3: Grab the baking soda and sprinkle it all over the grease fire you now have Step 4: Clean your grill as you should have regularly (twice to three times a year) to prevent a grease fire from happening. You're welcome. From 🇨🇦
This is Uncle Do Not! Do not trust him on the grill somebody get him another drink so he can go sit his ass down😂 look at all my good meats you done messed up. I was only in the house for five minutes😅😅😅😅 Damn!!
You gotta maintain your grill, dont let stuff build up, because as soon as those juices flow and flame up, if the grill isnt clean, your gonna have a fire. Ima say it was more than just him at fault.
That chicken on top looked extra cooked 😂 expected when this happens. Happened to me once while cooking a steak. Best thing to do is shut all propane off and burners and do not panic
The best thing to do it take the food off, shut off the gas and burners. Close the hood and monitor it in case it burns out of controll. depending on the grill some recommend to leave the hood open
Nobody gonna mention the 60mph wind speeds? lol and they pool is bogus too. Yup we’re revoking this man’s grill card, I’m with the ppl in the comments.
Had this happen a couple times . turn everything off, close valve on propane tank. Get the hose and stand far back. Douse flames, slow at first with thumb over hose to get a gentle broad spray with water. It will put the flames out.
Now you listen to me, mister. I work for a livin', and I mean real work, not writin' down gobbledegook! I provide the people of this community with propane and propane accessories. Oh, when I think of all my hard earned tax dollars goin' ta pay a bunch of little twig-boy bureaucrats like you, it just makes me wanna ... please don’t disrespect propane and propane accessories again
Gas is capable of uniform cooking far better than any form of grilling. A flame, is the flavor of the grill in majority, and you can get combinations that allow for the flavor of smoke from woods, BUT, the actual superiority in wellness/doneness is untouchable versus other methods.if you can't make bang on the gas grill, you're an exceptionally bad grill man imo, anybody can low and slow, but can your grill skill hit that puppy and get a family of 12 fed and not have it take the full day? That's a skill to master as well.
@@caiusmadison2996 yup. I started out grilling single meals on wood or charcoal, but once I got a gas grill and started cooking for multiple people, there was no going back. It's so much faster and cleaner. Plus, unless you're specifically smoking something, I prefer the natural taste of meat from a gas grill over the mild smokey taste you get when using other fuels. Not to mention, when using other fuels, you can't cheap out, making your expensive steak dinner unnecessarily more expensive.
@@caiusmadison2996This is completely wrong. With a big green egg or really any Komodo style grill you will outperform propane any day of the week. Whether it is 20 Burgers with the ceramic insert in set to 400. Now you have that hardwood flavor with no flare ups. Or chicken with no insert no problem even cooking with smoke flavor if you want by adding wood or none by just using premium hardwood charcoal. The next day I can smoke some ribs or a pork butt by adding hardwood chunks and setting it to 200 which it will maintain even if I walk away for 2 hours. Then on Saturday I can make a brick oven style pizza. Then on Sunday morning I can make biscuits and some great bacon. Even temp grilling no problem Smoking no problem Baking no problem Try that with your Home Depot SS propane grill Hank Hill 😂
@@user-yd2ug9uf3fnah man, they likely cooked something fatty like burgers and never cleaned the catch pan so the rendered steak fat lit that bitch up Ive never had more than a little flare up on steaks unless I left all the grease from my last burger cookout unchecked
After watching this & dealing with the same thing, I've decided to remain in charcoal team. Because that's more than enough fire for me to control, plus I don't need to worry about me cooking with a gas bomb waiting to happen if anything can happen to it.
Everyone saying turn it off and close the lid needs there grill card revoked. It’s a gas grill not charcoal. That means the grill has vents always open to feed the gas fire so the grease fire will continue to burn with the lid closed. Bakeing soda is a better option or fire extinguisher
Exactly. You can't just close the lid on a gas grill to snuff out the fire, because of the way they're made. Gas grills have a long slot along the back that you canNOT close or block off. It's there to keep the grill from overheating. If that weren't enough there's another opening at the very bottom of the grill. It's there to funnel grease down into a small aluminum pan to be disposed of once it solidifies. That pan has to be cleaned out before you fire up the grill again. I guarantee they didn't clean that pan out from the last cook, the grease got hot and caught fire. Ask me how I know. With a charcoal grill you close the lid and close all the vents, the fire can't get oxygen so it goes out-almost immediately. In over 80 percent of all fires involving a grill, the grill was a gas grill.
And the only thing I can say me growing up here in Texas when we barbecue our food, we use a smoker homemade smoker attached to a trailer. Stay safe with your guys and girls. Viva la raza go Texas Longhorns.
I’ve had this happen so many times I can’t even recall that’s why you always have a cold beer in hand. You just fling that beer in there in the fire goes out.
Forget the knobs on the bbq go to the propane tank turn that off/close it and then shut the lid, if you can move the meat to the cold side of the bbq and you can save ur meat, happend yesterday to me
