Getting ready to play WARNO? There are some things that you should know. Whether you have a ton of experience with strategy games/RTS or not, these tips will help you get started.
WARNO is a spiritual successor to Wargame Red Dragon, Wargame Airland Battle and Wargame: European Escalation. It is not stricly Wargame 4 though. It also uses elements from Steel Division 2, such as the line of sight tool and being able to give orders before the battle starts.
WARNO is set to a smaller scale relative to Wargame Red Dragon. You won't see quadstacks anymore, nor huge artillery barrages, nor reservist spam. Those seem to be things of the past.
What you will see if a large battlefield, many strategic options, and a very nice military RTS that's constantly being improved.

Why won't you play War Thunder?
▪️ I raged at getting sniped by tanks that I could never see. Also nonsense like turning bushes off that helps you perform better. That seems like a terrible design to me. War Thunder also had drama several years ago about the CEO calling the fanbase to help strike down channels or using copyright strikes to eliminate channels entirely. That is such abuse of power and dictatorial nonsense that I refuse to play a game created by such a company.

General tips: 0:08 Expect disaster [For example blunders and losses on your playstyle at the start. You will learn the ins and outs eventually as you keep playing] 0:55 Watch your replays [for learning what worked and what did not and how did the enemy manage to beat you] 1:59 Capture strategic areas [Not only sectors, but for example urban and forest areas at important locations] 2:56 Hold C for line of sight [At anywhere on the map for it's potential viewpoint] 6:03 Don't stick to the sector [Also capture important areas near sectors to prepare an engagement with the enemy] Useful hotkeys: 7:04 F: Fastest route [for wheeled and tracked units to move into a position] 7:38 E: Stop unit 8:18 C: Line of sight tool for units 9:11 G: Reverse (get back) [Especially for tanks] 10:25 U: Unload [Infantry from transports] 10:52 Y: Unload at position [After moving]

Bit late but my personal tip: Play aggressive early, gain the initiative! The vast majority of players start defensive, which at first might sound sensible, but I’ve found can be exploitable since it means units are spread out more, and they may not yet have bought units that can counter what you throw at them.

The tip about taking stuff around sectors is CRITICAL great work including that. Many people just stuff everything inside sectors and succumb to attrition.

I'm very happy they added the line of sight to WARNO. I was a casual player of Wargame and then Steel Division, and I got spoiled by LOS in Steel Division and was puzzled that it wasn't in Wargame.

Great video, looking forward to more help as I learn the game. I have a good one, too: Put command units in your starting sectors and keep them there at the beginning of the game, otherwise you lose the sector and can't reinforce :D

Think you could make a video for the veteran Red Dragon players? Something picks up all the significant differences and says, “hey you can’t do this anymore,” or, “this works like this now.”

the really good key areas are often not in the control zones. there will also be different key areas, spotting, area denial, defence, attack, overwatch, etc.

i liked your video .. i have played european ecalation and red dragon .. i was not much of a fan of red dragon... this looks better to me .. how would you say this compares to regiments? .. it is another ww3 nato / warsaw pact game that is in play test now.

I think ai is smarter like in sd2.And if you are not good,you dont win. Try to exit from a old 15 years game strategy try to adapt. You font win a war if you captured a city or 2,you must block and destroy you enemy,you must adapt.

Not really much for specs needed on their steam page. My pc is older, but runs Wargame RD really well. I shouldnt have issues with Warno then I assume?

My issue here will be ammo trucks. They are to little and have to little ammo. 800??? 1400?? That ammo dont are enough for an army. I dont like iddea with a commanding unit who cap an area. That areamust be your after you conquered and eliminated enemy from there. And points from there to be on you. If enemy whant that points must send troops to kill you units and capture. That thing is unrealistic.

On full release, they expect to have 16 divisions from ~ 6 countries if I remember right.

It will be slower even with faster units due to the need to keep units alive. No more recon by suicide transports or suicide militia.

@@nannunbgd that's what I am saying, inf in sd2 is between 15 and 35pts with high availability. In WARNO, inf is much more expensive, you cannot afford to throw them away for nothing. Also, refunding transports means no more sending waves of empty transports to die and recon the enemy positions. Ie, less units on the battlefield initially and more important to keep them alive. In sd2 some decks (Estonian/Korück) you have so many units, it doesnt matter if you lose 20 squads of them to stupid mistakes. Paying 85-100 points for a squad and up to 350 for a tank or helo means every loss hurts significantly more. This will lower the pacing of the game as players will be more cautious with their units if they want to be successful. Individual units themselves appear to move faster than in sd2 or wargame. Its an overall improvement, faster repositioning allows units to be saved lower availibility and higher cost favours unit preservation.

In fact a sd2 player,dont make mistakes who are maked by a RD player. A sd2 player act as a front line and take all good positions. I whant to see in warno a battle between a Red Dragon player and a steel division player,90% Sd2 player will win.

Any Red Dragon player who isn't a complete noob will fight for dominant terrain features instead of just sectors. In Red Dragon you have units that can quickly end up in your rear if you don't protect your flanks and control your side of the map. Especially since the last DLC, where if you're not careful you'll have a whole company of South Africans with Rooikats in your primary spawn.

There's definitely a sense of elitism among SD players. Wargame players are usually memey, while SD players seem to take it personally.
