how could anyone be arguing about who is better or who started what?! this is what music is about, everyone playing and enjoying it, and there may be better or worse out there but this is top class and i love it
The blues greats (Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, etc.) would be proud that beautiful music like this still exists in today's pop-bubble gum world.
People seem to forget/not know this is Trey Anastasio at his absolute lowest point in his established career. The man went on to rehab about a year after this occasion... that said, I'm super happy to see Trey healthy these days!!
+Sco Yeah...he's still bad at blues. I don't blame him though. For blues, it's all about feel, and you're either born with it (like B.B), or you're not (like Trey). He's still a good guitarist though.

I think that everyone who says that one of these world-class musician/guitarists is better than another one, is using the wrong word. It's not a matter of 'better' or 'best' at their level; but a matter of one's personal taste, or the one you like the best. There is no objective measure of musicianship on the level of these guys.
So sweet and epic. Love how they start on Funky Bitch and just take it to the stratosphere. Two living legends and two of the best to ever play the instrument in I and I humble opinion.
The blues is very much alive today thanks to Stevie Ray Vaughn. Blues lovers live all over the world, but every now and then someone comes along who can really play the Blues. Personally, I keep the tradition alive by listening to all the old blues music on my cd player.
How in the hell is no one commenting on the fact that they are both practically wearing the exact same thing: black on the same color blue jeans. not to mention their hair is practically the same color... that is fucking amazing.
@IwotchVid3oz yes he toured with him the early nineties. carlos was pretty impressed by phish. during ecstatics moments of jamming he described the scene unfolding as "the band being a hose, and the music was the water rushing through the band into the audience" which appeared as "flowers dancing and floating in the water coming through the hose" or something like that, which stuck. now those ecstatically immersive moments in their jams are reffered to as the "hose"
Why do I somehow get the feeling that arguing about whether Trey or Warren is "the better guitarist" is basically taking a gigantic shit on what is, to my ears, a beautiful piece of jamming? Fan-boys on both sides ought to pull your heads out of your asses and learn to appreciate the fact that music like this still exists at all. If you need a harder kick in the ass than that, I'll happily invite any of you to allow my teenage daughter to be the DJ in your car while you drive.
@himtroy - I actually feel the opposite way. Trey is extremely technically proficient while Warren plays with more feeling. Just an opinion, but they are both sick.

this is funny and uneducated because clapton has given great respect to both of these guys and vice versa. I have my favorites but I respect them all for what they do.
fuckin right. if someone wants to bother making an argument about originality, think for a second. Do you think after hundreds of years of music, there is anything left unexplored? Probably not. This is just about sharing something with a fellow musician just 'cause that's what musicians get off on.
I think Barry Oakley would’ve been perfect to fill that bass seat Warren was requesting for this tasty blues soup they were brewing up. Maybe someday in heaven
