This is special because Warren Beatty is notorious for being a bad interview, yet he feels comfortable enough with Letterman to be loose and let his guard down. Nice clips.

2 connections: A) my favorite film of all time was written directed and starred WB, "Heaven can Wait." Don't know if it's the "greatest film ever made" but it's my favorite film of all time. B) I had the opportunity to work 2 or 3 days as an extra on Bullworth (in the ballroom in I think what may have been a fundraiser scene - Bullworth gives a speech, as I recall) and had the opportunity to meet Warren and speak with him for a moment. Pretty wild. Thanks for posting these interviews!

@@41DRWS sorry, but didn't know you had responded to my comment 10 months ago. He was pretty busy with everything going on with the filming (I think you directed the film as well) so he was in director mode - I don't know what he would be like in a "real-life" setting.

Don, you missed one of Dave's monologue jokes in the mid 80's that went something like: "Today I was walking in the streets of Manhattan and a guy walks up to me and asks for an autograph. I said 'sure'. He said 'great; you got Warren Beatty?' " :)

How was this guy who barely speaks so successful with women? Maybe he was just being difficult on TV or was nervous or something.

I read a quote in a magazine from early in his career from his big sister Shirley McLaine who said he was so shy that he put the family piano in a large closet and he only dared play it there. In another magazine it said his shyness bordered on autism.

@@dimitrikorsakov2570 I understand Dimitri, Beatty isn't everyone's cup of tea. I think he hated interviews and TV ones in general. Early Harrison Ford was the same way, like pulling teeth to get responses. They felt obligated to do so to plug a movie.

Notwithstanding his intelligence and talent as a director he is painfully shy which, as he admitted, is a form of vanity...its all about what are they thinking about me...it is shallow and tedious.

Superficiale e noioso? Un uomo superficiale non avrebbe fatto mai un'opera come Reds. La promozione di sé non è il criterio di valutazione di un artista, e lui è un artista. Altri famosi in realtà fanno solo bene il marketing.
